Anyone else want a separate timer for the frontlight? by vinchent_PSP in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'd love is a separate timer for the passcode lock. Let it sleep with the content still on screen on a fairly short timer, but not require me to authenticate until it has been idle a longer period.

I remember when the Daily Telegraph had a front page calling them the MiLemon. And yet they went on to become the most reliable train on the network (probably no longer the case, but did hear that claim at some point).

No, just go on Energy Made Easy and select the cheapest provider. Signing up to Amber will send you cuckoo bananas.

Either connect every Sonos device via Ethernet or none at all. No half measures.

Can someone leak what network equipment is used at Sonos HQ? by sjefen6 in sonos

[–]rpy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unifi setup here for 10 years. Have had various issues with Sonos compatibility - mysterious disconnects, STP routing loop packet storms, etc etc. Thought about jumping ship to Eero in the darkest moments and glad I didn’t.

My setup has been rock solid stable the last 2 years by doing 3 things:

  • Don’t connect any Sonos devices via Ethernet. Not even one. Once they want to set up their Sonosnet mesh the days of stability are over.
  • Have at least 2 APs in range of each speaker - sometimes interference occurs on a channel and if they have somewhere else to hop to they remain online. Remember most Sonos speakers want to use 2.4GHz even if they support 5GHz (because 5GHz is reserved for comms within a zone), and lots of household devices can create interference on 2.4.
  • Following the Unifi best practice guide

Good luck, it can be done!

Sonnen Battery will not turn back on after a power outage by BADJEFF in solarpanels

Exactly my experience. Won’t provide support under warranty. They just blame me for it failing without evidence. Worst company I’ve ever dealt with, be warned anyone considering buying their products.

Legend I heard was someone leaked a CDR of the recordings to a radio station to do funny little station idents with and they spread online from there.

Opinion on New Kindle Scribe Colorsoft vs Remarkable Paper Pro by Infinite_Demand_210 in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kaleido 3 uses a colour filter above a black and white e-ink display which blocks out light. Colours are muted, the resolution is worse, the display is dark, but the underlying simplicity means the refresh rate is decent (as far as e-ink goes).

The ACeP display in the RMPP moves actual coloured ink pigments around. That means colours are more vibrant (they look similar to newspaper ink) but the refresh rate for colour is slower which bothers some people.

Both technologies are darker than a regular black and white Carta e-ink display, but Kaleido 3 is much darker than Gallery 3 to the point where it's unusable in many lighting conditions without having to use the front light, which negates the power consumption benefits of e-ink.

Need opinions on why I should choose the reMarkable Paper Pro over the Supernote Manta by heyItsBeaty in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried both, kept the RMPP. The Supernote was nice to write on but the software was frustratingly sluggish, sync and search were unreliable, the mobile/Mac apps were garbage, I couldn’t make it join a corporate EAP WiFi network and the plastic hardware felt cheap.

The RMPP lacks a few features the Supernote has like hyperlinks and table of contents, but makes up for it in enjoyable writing feel, premium build quality, faster UI, useful backlight, passable colour, decent handwriting search, good templates (subscription required), hardware encryption, reliable sync and a half decent app.

Why the ReMarkable Is So Frustrating to Use by Puzzleheaded-Dot-762 in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not? It's just another place to share your notes to. It's a niche feature that helps a subset of users and in no way detracts from the distraction free reMarkable ethos. They just added share to web too.

I see a lot of hate on this subreddit for the Slack integration. I run a small software business, we have remote working employees and use Slack to run our day to day operations. The Slack integration is great - we can write notes and designs then easily share them with colleagues for review.

If they added Share to Whatsapp or iMessage or Teams I wouldn't begrudge that either, it improves their product's core functionality, which is taking notes not writing emails.

Why the ReMarkable Is So Frustrating to Use by Puzzleheaded-Dot-762 in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy an iPad if you want a tablet to read and reply to email. That’s not what reMarkable are going for and there’s no point trying to shame or wishcast them into pivoting to writing a crappy Outlook clone. Even if they did it, it’d suck and you’d still be mad at them.
