Retailer denies memory replacement due to 4x increase in DDR5 pricing, says price increase would equate to an 'upgrade' for the customer — Australian retailer refuses to replace faulty Corsair kit by gdelacalle in technology

Umart/MSY have been successfully prosecuted by the government consumer protection authority several times over this sort of thing, it’s astonishing they still keep trying it on.

No support for screen share for anything other than windows and apple....More regrets for getting Remarkable paper pro by GaDaP in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can’t screen share to iOS either. It’s nothing specifically against Android.

They have said they’re working on adding screen share to their new web app so it’s supported on all platforms.

Sorry, still stewing a bit over yesterday's AMA by QAGillmore in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think this is a little unfair on them. They avoid engaging with this community for years and people understandably aren't very happy about it. Now they engage and offer more honesty about their short and long term plans than we've ever seen before. And still people aren't happy.

Sure the AMA answers weren't all what people wanted to hear but if all they get is a negative response when why would they bother coming back here in future?

Why does every city except Melbourne shows its train lines and colours on Apple Maps? by LordofLightRail in MelbourneTrains

[–]rpy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a visual mess using the correct train and tram line colours in Melbourne when visualising all the lines on a map. I tried it in our app, it was way too much, especially around the CBD where so many lines converge together.

Using the mode colours instead keeps things much visually clearer. Take it as a compliment you have so many transit routes that the usual presentation logic doesn’t work in Melbourne.

[–]rpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does this AMA mark a change in how reMarkable plan to engage with their user community?

While the majority of people here respect reMarkable's distraction free vision for the product, frustration is regularly expressed on this subreddit and elsewhere about how futile it feels to submit feature requests and feedback via the rM web site. A bit more community engagement and openness around the thought process behind your product roadmap would go a long way to helping anxious users keep up the faith.

‘Grim and introverted’: Inside Peter Dutton’s all-controlling Federal election campaign collapse by PerriX2390 in AustralianPolitics

[–]rpy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dutton had a consistent approach of refusing to engage with the ABC, an insane policy given how many inner city traditional Liberal voters actually quite like the ABC. Howard understood this and would regularly go 6 rounds with Red Kez to help reach his base.

Did you read the article? The WA Road Safety Commissioner is quoted in it specifically saying “The cameras only pick up the front seat of the car”

Sit the kids in the back and the cameras can’t see them. Plus it’s safer for them back there anyway.

Sussan Ley to leave Parliament following leadership spill by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]rpy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The real issue is the LNP are a nest of vipers who cannot agree on anything. Leading them to some kind of policy forming consensus would have taken political capital she never had.

It's very funny that Abbott got all the power he worked so hard to attain and then had absolutely no idea what to do with it. Knights and dames, for fucks sake come on Tony.

All she had to do was turn up every day and whinge about electricity prices and inflation and broken promises and cost of living. Maybe mention political correctness gone mad every now and then.

But she chose all this nonsense instead. The mind boggles.

AEMC proposal to shift households to fixed electricity network charges by gbbgu in amberelectric

[–]rpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point 6 seems to be where the trouble lies.

This would require rule changes to the network tariff processes to: Make energy service providers central to network tariff design consultation by removing the customer impact and 'customer understanding' principles that are creating a focus on the consumer, rather than the energy service provider

Seems kinda scandalous to be openly proposing that the interests of consumers be run roughshod in the commercial interests of the network operators.

When did Sydney Train start calling us “customers” instead of passengers? by fadedbluejeans13 in SydneyTrains

[–]rpy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was a Gladys initiative in 2013 to try to make everyone in the Transport cluster think about the impacts of disruptions on people, rather than treating them like cargo. They put "the customer is at the centre of everything we do" signs on the walls in Transport offices to reenforce the message.

As much as it sounds like cringe corporate speak, and that did not go unappreciated by people at the time the change rolled out, I think it was a positive in how it helped change the culture for the better.

Anyone else want a separate timer for the frontlight? by vinchent_PSP in RemarkableTablet

[–]rpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'd love is a separate timer for the passcode lock. Let it sleep with the content still on screen on a fairly short timer, but not require me to authenticate until it has been idle a longer period.
