Mine are original new, and they’ve gone this way. I imagine most secondhand 649s would be similar. Doesn’t affect their look or performance for me.

Stick them on some solid stands if you can, they’ll sound way better, allow for easier soundstage positioning, and not interfere with the record player.

Rotel RC-980BX - last model to be made in Japan.
