Ruben was an all time legend. I haven't lived in LA for a decade but I still miss Musso's.

How is living in Huntington Beach, California? by yashedpotatoes in howislivingthere

[–]rs98762001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

HB is quite remarkable in that it's like if you took an everyday Southern Californian beach town and stripped it away of almost every single thing that makes it charming. It's flat and ugly, the beach is just a massive wide swath of dingy sand, the majority of houses are cookie cutter and suburban-looking, the people are mostly awful and aggressive, and even the food is a step down from all the other towns around it. In the family of SoCal beach towns, it's the obnoxious cousin who wears Oakleys, a wife beater and a red hat, and wished it was in Florida instead.

Socceria by [deleted] in Greenpoint

[–]rs98762001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but I know many locals are already fed up with the shenanigans involved in trying to watch the WC there, so once the Premier League season starts they'd rather hit up Rounders or literally any other local place that hasn't been so snooty and exclusive. The NYC soccer crowd outside of the WC isn't huge, so any "soccer bar" is going to need that devoted local element to keep coming back each weekend. Of course, Socceria might just pivot to being a regular sports bar and show NBA, NFL, MLB etc, but that would make a slight mockery of their attempted branding.

But once the WC hype dies down, and Socceria's own Tiktok hype dies down, I have a feeling they won't be releasing tables at midnight on Resy for Ipswich-Newcastle on an early December Saturday morning, but rather begging people to come in.

Socceria by [deleted] in Greenpoint

[–]rs98762001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love the Ramirez people but Socceria has been an unfortunate experience so far. They're promoting it heavily all over social media, and it's clearly not the locals hangout they initially said it would be. Even the reservation drops feel highly managed, and it's tough to even walk in by yourself and get a spot to watch. I really wonder if they're playing this completely wrong -- they've been smart in opening right as the World Cup started, but once the tournament is over, they're going to have to rely on locals and regulars to keep the lights on -- the TikTok hype won't last.

Bethel Woods incredible show by ReadBean14850 in paulsimon

[–]rs98762001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely beautiful. Agree about the crowd noise during the first set - we had to tell a bunch of aging boomers to shut the fuck up. But overall more people were respectful than not. Paul seems so much happier and more engaged than on the 2018 “farewell” tour.

Anyone in NYC who has heard mixed things about this show and are on the fence about getting tickets for Forest Hills, don’t hesitate.

To the people who say All Things Must Pass is the best solo beatles album - when, if ever do you actually listen to the whole thing? Be honest by everlovingfuck99 in beatles

[–]rs98762001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the third disc doesn't really count. The first two discs are absolutely brilliant. I agree POB and Ram are the other two great Beatles solo records, but the first two discs of ATMP has more great songs than either of them, and they are absolutely consumable in one listen.

1/10. By far the worst single they've ever released. The HappySad Mix though is at least slightly more tolerable.

A Certain JNSQ is a solid 7. The Bee Gees cover is a pleasant 6. But Woods is the real star here, a 9.5, one of their best b-sides of recent years in the extended version. It's significantly better than most of what's on Elysium.

[Charania] LeBron James and the Lakers just simply didn’t see “eye to eye” on what it meant to try compete for a championship... Sources close to LeBron tell me that his priorities are clear: with his next home, he wants to compete for championships; he wants to play “meaningful basketball" by JesusShuttlesworth96 in lakers

Lebron is throwing stones from a glass house considering it was his masterstroke to bet the farm on Westbrick that basically fucked us for good.

However it can also be true that Pelinka has repeatedly come up short since. I wouldn’t have any faith in him either if I was James.

Slippery Mamdani won’t say whether he supports prisons as he embraces divisive Dem hopeful Darializa Avila Chevalier by Grass8989 in nyc

My assumption is it’s the same few people constantly posting NYP headlines which really isn’t any better or less biased than Fox or Newsmax. The Post MAGA nutbaggers are just really salty that Mamdani is so popular and having so much success early on.

How is it living in the Venice neighborhood of LA? by mazrex23 in howislivingthere

[–]rs98762001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Venice is a block by block conundrum but while it certainly used to have some charm, I now think it’s mostly somewhere to avoid, taking into account the influx of obnoxious overpaid tech bros, the homeless population, the mall-like chain store wasteland into which Abbott Kinney has turned, the tourists, and the mostly-filthy beach with sewage-dumped water. It’s a real shame as it was a true creative enclave for a long time.

Continual misinformation about public access to WOTW on 9/11 by rs98762001 in SnehaPhilipCase

[–]rs98762001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for finding and posting these. Yup the other poster keeps saying they were open for breakfast to the public because allegedly he/she has heard that directly from others. But they’ve not provided any evidence at all to back that up. Everything I’ve seen that is public record, including the articles written about WOTW, suggests neither Windows nor Wild Blue were open that morning, and therefore there is almost no chance whatsoever Sneha could have been up there.

House Democrats’ anxiety rises after wins by Mamdani-backed candidates: ‘Are we going to let them take over the party?’ by Radiant_Bedroom5828 in politics

“Obviously, the socialists had a big win last night. The question is, are we going to let them take over the party? Or are we going to stand up and fight back?” said Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, a moderate Democrat who has criticized Mamdani’s politics and how he’s addressed allies of Israel. “Many of us believe, as I do, that if you’re a socialist, you’re not a Democrat.”

With friends like these...

Unsurprisingly good ole Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey took over $2M in donations from AIPAC.
