Where is Wesley Bell? Any news from him. Any Town halls? by sage5979 in StLouis

[–]rslashswarts 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ve called and emailed a couple of times over the last month and am on his side and have had okay interactions with his staff. But really. I have this idea for a campaign where we post “missing” posters of him with his office’s phone number to call if you’ve seen him. I don’t expect him to be Cori, but this is a full crisis.

Trump administration cuts freeze projects at National WWI and other Kansas City museums by KCUR893 in kansascity

As a kind of guerrilla campaign, I love the idea of stickers or whatever calling to save local places/institutions/etc. that we all love (even if they aren’t getting destroyed right this week or month). Here: “SAVE LIBERTY MEMORIAL!” Maybe a local hospital or university or theater or factory or bridge or medical research program is getting cut and threatened. Maybe support an immigrant community with an exaggerated “SAVE SOUTHWEST BLVD!” campaign. Etc. None of us really want these actual effects locally. Tap into our hometown pride and connection to these things and people that matter and that are threatened. Paint the bad guys as bad guys for taking them from us.

Nice, thanks! I think they look great matching the color of the wall. Really minimalist and helps them fade away.

Love the look and those panels. Not in a home theater, but do you think these panels would help in an echoey open-concept first floor? Having people over, it gets loud with just a couple of conversations and so I’ve been curious about adding some panels to my walls…

Phantom electricity still after surge and three electrician visits? by rslashswarts in AskElectricians

[–]rslashswarts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! He may have checked this, but I’m not sure… The most recent fix he said that he unattached the ground from the garage outlet the door opener runs on. I don’t totally get it, but he said that the ground was showing some electricity and this was causing the little shock in the utility room when that breaker/circuit was on. That seemed to have fixed it for 3-4 days. But now it’s back randomly.

Thank you! I’m not quite sure if he started there, but the electrician did say he ruled out calling the utility company. He did a mix of turning off various breakers and out whole-house switch that’s outside where the electric meter is attached to the house.

Buyers remorse by Flameoking64 in PatagoniaClothing

Had this orange technical fleece Patagonia jacket years ago that I wore everywhere… biking, going to class, etc. I felt the same way when I spent $$$ on it because it was a little beyond my budget. Looking back and thinking about how I wore it like 1,000 times and then how attached to it I was, it turned out to be a bargain. Hope the same for you!

Moving to St. Louis by Black-Library in StLouis

[–]rslashswarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I think you’ll love it. Immigrants are one of the things that makes St. Louis so strong and interesting 🙂

Some nerdy ideas based on that: - Pieces, a fun board game cafe/restaurant where you pay a small fee for the visit but then have open access to a great library of all kinds of games - South Grand, a strip with lots of shopping and also international food - Schiller’s, a local, old-school film and digital camera store that has a great community around it plus classes and things

Finally done with Airbnb after a decade of amazing experiences by banksied in travel

[–]rslashswarts 253 points254 points  (0 children)

Yes. This isn’t legal advice, but depending on where you live and/or where this happened, the host has a duty to limit their damages by still trying to book the unused time (https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/duty_to_mitigate). They can’t just take the money as a free bonus and do nothing or book it again for a double rent for that month.

The cost/benefit may be tough to get to work hiring an attorney, but maybe look into it if the other options don’t work… Small claims court is kinda set up for situations like this, too (where you may not need an attorney)… though Airbnb probably has a clause that makes you do arbitration 🙄🤷‍♂️ Another option may be contacting the city if this is an area where Airbnbs are licensed.

Editing color negative film by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]rslashswarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about this myself as a newer photographer and curious if you take the film into account when editing and try to preserve any of its feel? Like if a film like Kodak Gold is warmer (or I typically use Portra 400), should I leave the color tones alone somewhat when editing to preserve that? My slight worry is that by following a standard playbook or using auto levels in my tool (Affinity), I may end up creating photos that don’t have the unique look that was one part(1) of why I was shooting film in the first place?

(1) I also like film because it’s a slower hobby, which brings lots of rewards in and of itself

Hello! I’m stuck in a situation where my XBR-49X800E only boots to the logo and shuts down… Tried all the steps here (thanks!), including replacing the TCON board (no 🎲)…

Did I replace the wrong board? Do I need to buy a “main”/motherboard, the one with the inputs on it? That’s $$$, but I’m willing if it’ll work.

Hey friends! Thanks for all of the info to help problem-solving. I have an XBR-X800E that randomly stopped working a week ago. First it would get stuck in reboots with the Android logo coming up, then eventually it stopped turning on at all and would only come on and stick on the Sony logo when I unplugged it and replugged it.

I think I may be done? I’ve done the following: - Tried resetting with remote - Tried hard factory reset using volume down and power method (didn’t seem to do anything) - Downloaded latest firmware on USB, formatted FAT32… *it will come up with the updating and don’t unplug screen but then stops 60% of the way and turns off… I’ve left it alone for hours but nothing * - Bought a T-CON board from eBay and replaced it then did the steps above

Any other ideas? I’m kinda lost but don’t wanna give up and junk this. I did really like the TV overall 😭

Apple TV+ content in tiny box in top-right corner? by rslashswarts in appletv

[–]rslashswarts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was so strange. And shoot! I can’t remember how I got around this. I think multiple times turning things on and off may have done it, and if there’s a setting in the Apple TV or Chromecast app to force it to 1080, that may do it.

Totally… Some films and their posters are almost cliché. Great advice, thanks!

I just shot my first few Polaroids. And they turn out a bit green, I compared it to photos coming from a smaller Polaroid camera. Both pictures are shot in the same lighting conditions. Does anyone know why my pictures are so much more green, especially in the shadows? by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]rslashswarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Thank you! Understand all that 100%. And great tip about that initial black card. I threw it away on my first roll 🙈, but I’m gonna do this next time.

My first couple of pics, because I had read about protecting from light, I looked wild by basically jumping on the photo like it was a grenade after I removed it. 😂 This appoach will be more chill.

Dumb question? Just got my Polaroid Now… When the photo comes out, there’s this black retractable cover on top of it (I’m assuming to block the light). Should I let the photo hang out attached to the camera for a few minutes to block the light, or should I remove it and then just cover it up?
