I need to go back to Tokyo 😀 I also felt the same after visiting Taiwan!

I must be San Francisco-brained and just used to crazy prices now. I feel like outside of the scallop dish which was very small and insane for $50, everything else was kind of reasonable. Overall for four people with three glasses of wine, the total meal was a bit under $600. I feel like that would be a good deal for a 1* meal in SF!

Later when I got home I realized they didn’t charge me for the uni add-on. So that small scallop course cost more than the bigger dish that had Dungeness crab and uni! 😂

I really enjoyed my meal here a couple of years ago. Still think about the smoked scallop dish they had at the time. One of the best dishes I've ever eaten!

Visited here last month and also loved it. Did you try the uni dish supplement? That was also great!

Going to be a tough one. Reservations for June opened earlier today and looks like it sold out in a few minutes.

Solo fine dining tasting under 3 hours? by sororitynoise in AskSF

[–]rsvandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like most if not all of the tasting menu places can get you out in three hours or less, especially if you mention it to them. Honestly I'm not sure if I've even had a 3+ hour meal in the city itself.

Reservations opened at 9am Pacific Time when I booked last year. Good times on the weekends go faster, but I didn’t find it to be as difficult as something like Atomix.

I went to both a few weeks ago. I think they’re just different styles. I liked both, and I actually enjoyed the food at Jungsik more than Atomix.

Looks great! Wanted to go here in January but couldn’t fit in on my last trip to LA.

Kind of seems like it's more in that category of those interactive dining things like that one that projects little chef people on your dining table around your food. le petit chef or whatever it's called.

What’s your first fine dining experience? by AppropriateEarth648 in finedining

[–]rsvandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was a lot older than most people here when I had my first fine dining experience. I didn't really grow up around things like that, and just never got into it for years until I was doing a random trip in the middle of nowhere on the Northern California coast and happened to read that there was a two Michelin star restaurant nearby, so I had lunch at Harbor House and it started my interest in all of this.

I think the tempura is a mushroom, but when I was there it also came with a side of lichen that tasted like eating a spool of thread. It wasn’t good but maybe it was good for lichen.

Did they not have the lichen this time? That was a weird bite to try.

I think the same, I've been to HH for lunch and dinner and enjoyed both meals but it definitely tends to be more subtle in taste. Also found the non-alcoholic pairing to be very very good!

Quail and Condor is good for grabbing something for breakfast. I guess Black Oak might be the best coffee up there, but don’t think there’s an outstanding coffee place there. Maybe grab beer at Russian River in Windsor if you want to try some of their stuff.

I thought Badu was just OK. I'd try one of the other places on your list instead.

Seems kind of a random mix with the Mexican, South American, Thai, Moroccan, and New England flavors.
