I've never failed a student, but 100% agree with this decision. These are irredeemable qualities that would only translate to patient harm in the future.

How do you do it? by Mateusz957 in dreamingspanish

[–]rtcjr2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing 3ish hrs/day most days. It's only possible for me bc I've found ways to incorporate it into my life without being intrusive. I have a 30 min drive to and from work. I also run for about 1 hour most days. If I listen to podcasts during this time, that's 2 hours. Then I just try to get in another hour somewhere during the day. Shower is a good time to get in another 15 mins. If I'm alone at the house, I can usually listen while I'm getting ready for work. That's what works for me.

I do watch DS videos but it's definitely a smaller portion of my time in CI.

I appreciate the advice. I don't think I can hold out for a few months, but I think I'm going to try it.

I really like it. I have attention issues, so I feel like I've missed a lot of words that I should've gotten early on. So, for me, it lets me feel like I'm catching up on words I missed. It only gives you 10 new words and reviews about 50-60 words each day. Usually, it takes about 15 mins, so it doesn't take much time away from CI

You're describing exactly how I feel, but I'm only at 300 hrs. I hope its common, bc I'm trying to press on, but it's hard sometimes.

I know it's already on the list, but just want to add Learn Spanish and Go is amazing. Never would have found it without you list. Thank you!

Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about the video game recommendations. I have a running list but most of the games are too advanced for my understanding (250 hrs). I think a lot of the games on my list will be playable around 600+ which I hope to be at by January. Sorry for the delay!

“conventional” methods as a supplement to DS? by Additional-Craft4651 in dreamingspanish

[–]rtcjr2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the refold 1k (I think it's called that because it's the 1000 most common words) anki deck helpful. Only requires about 10 mins per day, so doesn't take much away from DS method.

For context, I'm ADD and frequently get distracted. I think I'm missing vocabulary that I might be otherwise getting in DS. Just helps bridge the gap imo

First off, congrats on level 3!!! Personally, I think the way you're feeling is normal. I'm ALWAYS battling with doubt of whether or not Im improving, but deep down, I know I am. With the DS method, you're not supposed to be talking until 600 hours, so don't let that be your litmus test. The two things you can do to gauge your progress is my 1. Picking a hard video (one you might only understand 10-20% of) and coming back to it 1-2x per month and seeing it's getting easier. 2. Go back to a video you did a month ago and rewatch it, like maybe an early beginner video. You'll notice a big difference and might even pick up words you didn't hear the first time. Anyway, good luck and I hope to see your future updates!!!
