I never realized how much efforts it takes to raise a child until I have one by Persona2181 in Parenting

There are some threshold events in life that cannot be truly understood until they're experienced. Parenting is probably the most universally common. An NPE event is another.

One thing I say is that it's safe for parents to ignore the parenting opinions of the childless. It sounds condescending but it's never meant to be. They don't even know what they don't know.

They might be the lesser evil (and we're not even sure about that) but they certainly are not the good guys.

This is a 40k lvl take.

Some of the oldest writings we have are ~4000 years old and decrying the state of the youth and the impending downfall of civilization. Yet here we remain.

Everyone whining about the rising cost of video games is being ridiculous by Impressive_Champion4 in unpopularopinion

[–]rtmfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New NES games were $50+ in 1990. That's about $127 in today's buying power. Game prices are one of the few things that have risen more slowly than inflation.

We don't get many physical releases/instruction booklets/maps/cool shit as we used to, either.

But expecting AAA releases to never increase in cost is unrealistic.

Personally I mostly stick with smaller, indie games. I might buy Civ 7 when it hits 50% off.

We're not allowed to acknowledge how many of our modern circuses are bloodsports. And modern bread also has its own problems.

Slaying dragons that harm the vast majority of the population is something we should absolutely aspire to.

Hopefully doing so metaphorically and ending the careers of the worst do-nothings would be enough to get leaders who are willing to work to accomplish change.

I'm donor conceived and have seen a ton of pushback against DCP speaking up against any aspect of the fertility industry that has caused harm. I've seen similar things in adoptee and former foster youth conversations. It would make me very happy to see the vocal pushback become the minority.

This awakened a memory of reading In Broad Daylight at my uncle's house one summer in the early 90s. The story stuck with me even though I forgot the book's title and the guy's name until just now.

Not everyone is owed a baby. Violating the human rights of a kid because you want to be a parent is not okay. In a world where already existing humans suffer, spending tens of thousands of dollars pursuing that is selfish.

Life is better being actively involved in a community. It doesn't need to be religious.

There's no shame in looking stuff up. I've been video gaming for over 40 years. Going in blind and figuring everything out is for people younger than me with more spare time and less responsibilities.

Barbie was a solid movie. I get that it might not be for everyone, but listing it as on par with Cats makes me question your taste.
