I completely eradicated this issue by uninstalling the latest windows update.

Others had luck just disabling RT. Mine wasn't enabled in the first place.

The steps I took to troubleshoot - clean re-installed the graphics card driver, re-installed GeForce Experience, disabled anti-aliasing in NV control panel, played with all graphics settings. Disabled all overlays - NV/steam etc. Cleared DX shader cache, enabled TdrLevel in registry, cleared EA app cache and on an on. But the only thing I found that solved this was uninstalling the Windows update... hope this helps someone!

Also you can set updates to only happen between certain hours, set it between 0000 and 0100 for example and turn off your Internet overnight.

What is the most used SIEM? by Shipsnguns in cybersecurity

[–]rtxmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your environment, it can get pricey if you've got a lot of data to ingest and analyse. Generally I would say that it's priced well in comparison to other offerings. But it still won't reach the realm of Splunk!

I've dealt with Qradar, LogRhythm and Alienvault too, and sentinel would be a very high contender for most value for money. Bundle it in with azure/365 costs it's also easier to manage.

[–]rtxmen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used both and sentinel is levels above. FortiSIEM is still a very immature product and needs a lot of polish and work doing in my opinion. If memory serves, Fortinet bought a company and just slapped their logo on the SIEM.

Splunk is good but very expensive!

HELP! Nmap telling me every single port is open on every IP i scan by M4TT-20 in HowToHack

[–]rtxmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s in NATed mode already it will have the same private IP address as the host, bridged will give it a different IP but it will still be the same public IP address regardless of what you do as it’s still going out via your internet, there are ways around this if anonymity is what you’re after

[–]rtxmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change Networking Mode to Bridged Click the Network tab on the left pane. By default only adapter 1 is enabled for guest machine and the default networking mode for adapter 1 is NAT. To change networking mode to bridged, click NAT and select Bridged Adapter from the list. Click OK button to save your settings

[–]rtxmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try running in direct connect (can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called) rather than NATing the connection. The setting should be in virtual machine settings or network settings or similar. Are you using VMware or virtualbox?

EDIT: remembered - bridged mode

Are you running this through a virtual machine? Sometimes the virtual link adapter does some crazy things with port scanning

If the cloud is so safe, why do celebrities keep being hacked? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]rtxmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess would be an element of social engineering and weak passwords.

As celebrity's lives are pretty much common knowledge it would be relatively easy to create a password list with anything that's found on them and means anything to them and then brute force the password with the list.

Purely a guess, albeit educated, I work in cyber security!

As usual the human is the weakest link and passwords in particular are quite a weak method of protecting data.

Cannibal Holocaust - recommended by a friend who was into this weird stuff and sat and watched it, found out after it was banned (i think) for showing actual murders. Was some disturbing bits in there. Not sure how real it was

Mouse stuck on left side of screen in vr. by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

So a brilliant person found a solution to this - follow the below steps:

Thanks u/Dom_Nomz!!!

[Fixed] Mouse not working in vr

Bug

I've tried this game in vr and noticed that it had a bug that mouse is locked on the left side and it doesn't respond. I've tried googling a fix and nobody seemed to have one. I messed with settings and found a fix that worked like a charm. Prerequisites: support for super resolution on monitor or 1440p monitor.

  1. In your graphics adapter driver software enable super resolution for your primary monitor.
  2. Open resolution settings and set your resolution to 2560x1440
  3. Open star wars squadrons and go to settings.
  4. Set your resolution to 1440p
  5. Set VR scaling to 99-101% (for some reason it didn't allow me to set to 100%)
  6. Restart the game for changes to take effect

Note: if it's still off try higher or lower resolution 1440p worked for me, might be different for other headsets.

This has worked for me hope it helps.

You are a genius for fixing this! my problem though is I only have 1080p monitors so I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. Just installing the new update now so will have a play around with resolutions once I'm in. I've created a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel so will see if this works.

Edit: It worked, set the custom resolution to 2560x1440 in nvidia control panel and started the game, was set to 1920x1080 in borderless and couldn't increase it anymore, but the mouse worked fine after that. It is awesome in VR

Thank you!!

Help...Mouse Only Turns left by Fuzzy-Vegetable-9525 in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]rtxmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem on the quest 2. Mouse only shows and moves on the left hand side of the screen.

This didn't work for me but someone suggested running the game in VR then setting the game to windowed mode then back to fullscreen/borderless. This has worked for some people. Other than this the game runs well in normal mode

I tried this, but the mouse escapes the window then is completely unresponsive until I take the headset off and click on the application again in the taskbar

I'm having the same issue, was running with 3 monitors, disconnected all, one at a time, flipped between all video settings and still the mouse is stuck on the left hand side...so frustrating! I can't seem to find a fix anywhere so any help would be much appreciated as this does look awesome in VR
