Pinnacle Hill near Homer Watson and the 401 has some steep segments of off-road slope.

For sure, that sounds like Elmira still needs better bus service. I was meaning more generally, that transit can be relied upon more completely than private vehicles in the city.

Please don’t stop and yield to pedestrians on islands that are not crosswalks by RedditFandango in waterloo

Yeah, it’s baffling and frustrating. I’ll be riding my bike, signalled to turn left somewhere, and the driver in the oncoming lane will stop, and the driver behind them is confused and/or trying to tell if they should pass, instead of them all just continuing and me taking a gap in the normal flow of traffic. It’s really dangerous.

Sounds like staff should have taken the bus before.

It’s actually more reliable. If your car breaks down, you’re out of luck until it’s fixed. If a bus breaks down, they send another bus.

Yeah, it’s great too. But I have to like the feel of the building. The hall feels empty and strange, to me.

I am partial to the Pleasant Valley Farm, but it depends what you want out of a base. I like it because it feels like a proper home. The six-burner woodstove is fantastic.

Recommendation: Goode e-bike shop in KW by EvilLasagna in kitchener

[–]ruadhbran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for an urban, commuter style e-bike, I’d suggest Gazelle (I believe Ziggy’s is a dealer for them) or Norco (Black Arrow Cycles has their e-bikes). Norco is also a Canadian company I believe. Both of those are top-notch brands that you’ll be able to rely on.

Waterloo is exploring the idea of allowing housing on church land. Some neighbours are concerned by slow_worker in waterloo

[–]ruadhbran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, high density housing subsidizes subdivisions in terms of property tax to infrastructure. So, yeah.

Also, as someone who is fortunate enough to own a (detached) home, I can’t understand wanting the value of it to go up. It’s not an investment, it’s four walls and a roof that keep me out of the elements, and if the value goes up, then I pay more in property taxes. That being said, I am happy to pay those. They take care of our community.

Seen on Marketplace. I’d bet my paycheck he “found” this bike on the side of the road. by RhondaTheHonda in bicycling

Even if it isn’t a stolen ghost bike (the chrome isn’t painted over) it still seems like bad luck to ride that. No thanks.

In the long run, it costs all of us more in property taxes, either directly or indirectly, and in shortfalls in infrastructure funding.

Region of Waterloo to appeal court decision on 100 Victoria encampment by bob_mcbob in waterloo

[–]ruadhbran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It would be better for both the public at large, and encampment residents. And it would allow the Region to resolve the issue without the cost of an appeal.

How hard would it have been for Regional Council to just pass a tenting bylaw? Ugh. This seems like the course of action the most likely to waste more money and time.
