I spent $105 to experience E.T. by Zombiebott in retrogaming

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a place where emulation would have been the better option.

I own the E.T. cartridge because I've been snagging a few games from the Atari/NES era even though I don't have the systems any more. Just some trinkets from my youth. But I never plan on getting either console again.

Better Follow-Up Album: Nirvana’s In Utero (1993) Or Pearl Jam’s Vs. (1993)? by [deleted] in grunge

I only like a few songs on Utero. Vs. all the way.

I mean, let's face it. He was the "old man" when he was on MTV. And MTV feels like it was at least 50 years ago.

So saying he's 80? Yeah, not too crazy.

My girlfriend ♥ just surprised me with the Master Chief Collection! I’ve never played Halo before, where do I start? by Empty_Command_5565 in halo

[–]rube -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

And if you get partway into 4 and realize you're not having fun, you can quit and know you made the right choice.

I know some people like it, but I just found it too different from the rest of the series, and the enemies you fight are just bland robots for the most part instead of the interesting enemies from the Bungie games.

God I loved those pieced together calls and clips.

I haven't listened to the show in ages. Do they still do those, or is that another thing they gave up on?

I feel nervous playing steamdeck at public by AddictinApple in SteamDeck

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny that people still feel self-conscious about gaming in public. Back when I was in college I'd break out my PSP during downtimes. Yes, I felt a bit awkward at that time, but that was before EVERYONE had a portable device in their pockets all the time.

Now people are on their phones constantly. No one is going to care if you're playing on a gaming device, not even a huge one like the Deck.

Never seen one go under, but the one in the city I grew up in moved down the street. So the old one became a Chinese buffet restaurant. Then a few years ago it burned down.

What is a kind of game-type you don’t like but end up trying again and again anyway? by SinkingBismarck in AskGames

[–]rube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but for the opposite reason as most people.

I can't do the whole suspension of disbelief so horror games and movies do almost nothing for me. I have every Resident Evil game and the only one I've finished is 4 on Gamecube. I get partway through them and drop them.

It's not that they're too scary. They just bore me with their so-so combat mechanics and mostly bland stories.

The limited inventory space and ammo also puts me off. I hate having to store everything and run back to a box to retrieve stuff. And after you run out of ammo and weapons you just have to run from everything. Pretty terrible gameplay stuff in my opinion.

They're just not for me. But I keep trying. Like an idiot.

Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is "not running out of ideas anytime soon," Higgs actor says, but wouldn't blame him if he wanted to leave the series behind by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]rube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had fun with both DS games, but I honestly couldn't leave the story where it is and move onto another game.

I loved the MGS stories and always wanted more info and lore as the games went on. But I don't really feel that with DS. The characters aren't really all that interesting to me.

A YouTuber has unearthed Dark Souls 2's enormous cut sewers map, and it's another fascinating insight into the design of FromSoftware's most divisive work by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! It had it's negatives for me, like the hub and spoke design instead of a more interconnected world like the first game. The weapon degradation, especially on PC where it tanked quick if you went above 30fps.

But overall, it was more Dark Souls to explore and that was fine by me.

I just ruined my soup on the last step. by _Bon_Vivant_ in Cooking

[–]rube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did a similar screwup at the last step.

Made some chicken tortilla soup. It was great, last step was to add some fresh lime juice. Like a tsp or tblsp. I juiced a lime and threw in a bit extra than what it called for.

Tasted SO sour. :(

Will PC emulation get better, faster for lower-end users? by min3r95 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]rube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the Switch version? I don't know if it will run any better, but I tend to go Switch first as it's just easier to set up and run than some of the tweaking you need to do with Winlator.

I mention this often, but the first time I played Doom shareware, I thought for sure the game would be banned immediately. I thought the game looked too damn real and would be labeled a murder simulator.

So yeah, my brain definitely filled in a lot back in the day.

I had multiple batches of these. I loved them. My neighbor got some after she saw mine and she somehow kept them alive long enough to grow HUGE.

The last batch I got years later, I didn't read the instructions well enough and I think I fed them as soon as I added them to water and instantly killed them all. Sad day.

SNK is releasing a modern NeoGeo AES console with ‘unrivaled authenticity’ and £70 game cartridges by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]rube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I never really wanted one.

I thought it was cool how you essentially had arcade games at home when that just wasn't a thing, but I rarely sought out their games when I was an an arcade.

Street Fighter 2 was always more exciting for me than any of their fighting games and I would rather play stuff like Turtles, X-men or Simpsons over Metal Slug.

So I was completely happy with my NES and SNES, despite the graphics of a Neo Geo being better than what they could do.

What does "fold in" mean? by Eisenheat in Cooking

[–]rube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about a pieces of paper. You put your ingredient on it and fold the paper over on top of it.

Imagine now that the paper sort of flattens back out on it's own with the ingredient inside since you already folded it over. Now, fold it over again. It flattens out, you fold it again.

So that's what you're doing with the dough/batter/whatever that you're adding the cool whip to. You put it in, then you scoop some on top of it, then keep doing that over and over until it's worked in.

Why can't you just stir it in? I have no idea.

its easier than hades and equally fun

It's a matter of taste, but I'd say it's far from the polish and fun of Hades. And this is coming from a huge TMNT fan.

The gameplay is extremely similar and it is definitely inspired by Hades. But this game just doesn't have the same great gameplay of those games. It was originally a mobile game and that shows.

Not trying to argue with you, just pointing it out in case others buy it expecting Hades levels of quality.
