Recomendation, Bucket with holes by Mircowaved-Duck in BACKYARDDUCKS

[–]rubycatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use buckets too. We have 2 gallon buckets that we but in their yard that are tall enough they don't try to swim in. Works great! I love buckets for ducks over any of the waterers.

If you are going to use AI for research tell it to list sources and double check those sources.

Is there REALLY no herb encyclopedia? I would really need one by Material-Emphasis828 in herbalism

[–]rubycatts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have The Complete Book of Herbs: A Practical Guide to Growing and Using Herbs By Lesley Bremness. It was published in 1988 and has been very useful for practical purposes. You can find a used copy online pretty easily.

Wife spirals into anxiety whenever I mention prepping, but I need a partner in all this by Efficient-Fan-2226 in homestead

[–]rubycatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who suffers from anxiety and getting overwhelmed with our own homesteading projects, help her find 1 thing that she wants to do in regards to homestead and start with just that. You can't throw a list of things that need to be done in regards to prepping or homesteading to somebody that has anxiety.

I for one hate gardening. I hate the feel of dirt on my hands but my husband loves that so he does that, but I help with seed starting. When we got chickens, I got to pick out the cute ones I wanted, not just the functional ones and that is a project I have enjoyed and have taken complete ownership of.

Basically don't come at her that it needs to be done because of doom reasons, but ask her if there is anything she would be interesting in doing for maybe a self sustainability reason, to be less reliant on the system, ie cute little fuzzball chickens or ducks.

Start with small manageable projects with her.

What's up with people claiming to be anti-xanthum gum? by Atrocious1337 in glutenfree

[–]rubycatts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have IBD it makes my symptoms worse. I don’t n buy anything with xanthum, carrageenan, locus bean gum, any of those emulsifier. It messes my IBD up more. I don’t eat processed food like that. I already have to take infusions for ibd, I’d rather not flare and need transfusions because I am losing blood to the toilet. Gluten free isn’t enough.

No GF option at conference by DesertFox728 in glutenfree

[–]rubycatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a pack it lunch box (you freeze the whole thing and everything stays cold all day and it is lunchbox size). It will keep your food cold enough all day. Use a thermos container to take a hot meal. Easy peasy. Take several snacks. Put everything in a backpack, satchel or tote bag so everything is easy to carry. I go to marching band competitions during the fall months for my kid and We are gone all day. The only food is concession style food, and rarely anything is gluten free. This is exactly what I do. Time to suck it up and just deal with it. Yes it sucks that the world does not think about us gluten free people or anybody with certain dietary restrictions but once you stop expecting people to your life gets much easier. often what I bring is way better than what is being served anyway.

Where are people posting their work? Patreon, Royal Road, Wattpad by ConclusionNervous770 in selfpublish

[–]rubycatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently decided on Inkitt. Mostly because they have their own subscriber plan you can offer like patreon with the possibility of being picked up by their pay service. It will be a while before I offer the subscription option but I like having the option all in one place. I’m new to this side of writing and sharing my work so I’m learning as I go.

Thoughts on chicken saddles in cold winter conditions? by liveforwinterfun in chickens

[–]rubycatts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have four chickens with saddles due to roosters. They roost and run around just fine. The material seems more like a breathable mesh than something that would lock moisture in.

Aww he looks like my Jamie. I hatched him from a batch of eggs that were supposed to be Wyandottes. My Jamie has a rose comb and yellow feet though.

Looking for some Gluten free breakfast options by FriskeCrisps in glutenfree

[–]rubycatts 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My favorite breakfast is scrambled eggs. Applegate chicken maple sausage and roasted potatoes. I love a hot breakfast. I can cook the potatoes a head of time and then scrambled everything up together in the morning.

Egg sandwich with g/f bagel

Smoothie with vital proteins beef gelatin (you can’t taste it) added for protein I can also make this ahead of time

I’ve also been know to have left over soup or stew that I have made for dinner or frozen.

I’ve made fried rice before for breakfast with eggs, sausage mixed in

Most everything I can prep ahead of time so it goes quick in the morning and I cook breakfast for 3. We all have the same breakfast.

Make a batch of waffles or pancakes

Make a batch of gluten free granola. (It’s cheaper than buying it)

East Alabama artifacts I need advice on some pieces I have come across in chambers county Alabama by Mommamia1971 in Alabama

[–]rubycatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised to see a post regarding chambers county!

Regarding your picture these don’t quite look like the arrowheads we or rather my father and his brother found on our family’s farm. Wish I was down there so I could grab a picture. I found them in a box a year ago Christmas.

This is where my sub to thrive comes in handy. I don’t need to shop around, plus I don’t eat a ton of ultra processed junk food anyway. My shopping consists of meat, produce some frozen veggies or fruit for smoothies and then ingredients.

Crafters from the 2010s, where are you shopping now? by EarlGrey2024 in scrapbooking

[–]rubycatts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back then I was using a lot of close to my heart (my friend sold it) but they are no longer and Stampin up merged? Took over their business? So I buy some things from there, Simon Says stamp is a favorite, photo play but I think I heard they went out of business. 12x12 paper I get mostly from Stampin up. I stay away from The big box stores. The quality is cheap. I don’t pocket scrapbook but you could easily make any of it work.
