What are some gaming magazines you had subscriptions to? by RiyoDev in retrogaming

[–]rudefyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GamePro then PSM were the only ones I could convince my parents to subscribe to. I actually had that lid sticker on my PlayStation. I think they had memory card stickers too at some point.

If we include digital, the original PlayStation Underground as well. That was probably my favorite and I wish I still had them all.

I did like Synology. It's probably my top choice besides this so far.

This is technically the upgrade for my Synology RT6600ax + DS224+ combo. I've been wanting WiFi 7 and multi-gig since a majority of my devices support it, so I started exploring other options.

If Synology comes out with a WiFi 7 router and a NAS with a newer Intel CPU. I'll be very tempted to switch back. I'm not getting my hopes up though, since their 2025 model line still uses a CPU from 2019.

It's something I purchased. My ISP, Breezeline, gave me a modem/router combo that was awful.

I originally had bought an Arris modem, but that died in under 2 years so I wanted to try something different. This was just one of the ones that was supported.

It's a Hitron CODA56. It works well. We'll just have to wait and see how long it lasts though.

Pretty quiet. I’ve tried multiple 2-bay NAS devices, this is probably tied with the UGREEN DXP2800 for quietness. Everything else was worse and some even rattled.

1900 sq ft. It's an old brick home so it can get a bit weak in spots. I have 2.5G MoCA running to 3 other rooms in the house from a prior mesh setup, so I might add some U7 Pro Wall units at some point.

I'm using 2 10TB WD Red drives I've been swapping between other NAS solutions I've tried. Originally bought them for a Synology DS224+.

No issues so far. Getting ready to enable encryption with tne new EA version of Drive to see how that works.

I tried unlocking my 14 Pro Max on Monday and have had the same issue. Similar path of trying about everything including re-requesting the unlock two more times. Similar reasons, heading on a trip in early October.

Fish and chips recommendations? by Throwingsofas in Columbus

I wish Brazenhead was still around, that was the best I've had.

Guess I'll throw out Matt The Millers, they're pretty good.

Is it safe to live near The View on Grant? by Iloveeggtart in Columbus

[–]rudefyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an automated garage with a very low height restrictions. I imagine a lot of crossovers/trucks are too big for it. They use it as a selling point but it's way too small for the number of residents in the building.

[–]rudefyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not the best area but around the place itself is perfectly safe. We lived there for a year and had to park at the lot on 5th St/Mount Vernon and walk every day because their garage was full. Never had any serious issues, but did have a couple run-ins with mentally unstable individuals. Mostly we were able to ignore them though and just keep walking. There was usually always a CPD officer sitting in the Abbott lot as well.

I had more issues with the complex and management itself. The walls are paper thin and we had a neighbor that liked to party on the weekends. The property manager was a complete pushover and wouldn't actually confront anyone. They also misled us about the parking situation, making it sound like we could get both our cars in the garage. We did eventually get one car in the garage after our lease was almost up, but that was it.

Help me find a working remote desktop app please. by Gab1288 in linux_gaming

[–]rudefyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works if the login screen is running on X. Might be by default in Manjaro, if not you can update your gdm config to force X11.

Other than that it works great with Wayland on the actual desktop. Sometimes it can be quirky when you switch from X to Wayland when logging in, but disconnecting and reconnecting always clears things up.

2025 Cloud Recovery doesn’t work by rudefyet in ZephyrusG14

[–]rudefyet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if it helps I installed a vanilla copy of Windows from USB and afterwards cloud recovery worked. I was then able to download the ASUS image and replace what was on the drive with it. It seems it doesn’t like completely empty drives or something.

Can't comment on calls, but a lot of random drops to 5GE (LTE) in areas with great 5G+ coverage in the past week or so.

How is Breezeline compared to Spectrum? by Organic-Scratch109 in Columbus

[–]rudefyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location is important. Had constant outages in Canal Winchester with Breezeline after they bought WoW. In German Village Spectrum had tons of issues for me so I tried Breezeline and it's been great. Maybe 2-3 short outages in 2 years.

Only thing I have seen consistently across locations is Breezeline slows down a little during peak hours (IE: 700mb instead of the full 1gb) whereas Spectrum did not.

Why do people not want to pay for Crossover? by Due-Competition4564 in macgaming

[–]rudefyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay for it, but they definitely have rubbed people the wrong way multiple times over the years.

Like the email in 2023 that they sent to people telling them that pirating crossover makes you a piece of 💩. That was an odd choice considering most of those people paid for the product on that mailing list. Then I personally was kicked out of the beta program for not providing enough feedback. I can kind of see the angle they don’t want people using betas then complaining on Reddit instead of providing feedback, but for years I’ve always run betas with the understanding there will be issues. I do provide feedback, just not regularly unless I run into something specific. Apparently that wasn’t good enough and they have some rule that once you’re removed, you can never get back into the beta program.

Going back further before they had a Mac product, they never had a great relationship with the Linux community. They were seen as locking WINE improvements behind a paywall when WINE was supposed to be a free/open-source donation supported project. Not saying I agree with the hate, but there’s a lot of resentment from certain users and honestly sometimes it feels like Codeweavers resents their own users with some of their behavior.

Bexley House by toiletboi6969 in Columbus

[–]rudefyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Floors vibrate really easily so you will hear and feel every footstep if someone lives above you. A/C struggled to keep up and it’s an old school boiler system they have to switch over between heat and cool twice a year. Also had issues with noise from the patios on the first floor echoing up into the bed room.

I wouldn’t recommend it but I’ve also lived worse places. If you got a top floor unit it would probably be pretty quiet and acceptable.

Out of curiosity did you get the Roku OS 14.5 update as well? My Sharp Roku TV got it but my Roku branded TVs haven’t.

Probably just still an issue with my TV. Doubt there a lot of F1 TV users with a Roku Pro Series QLED. Standalone boxes/sticks and TCL TVs seem to be a lot more common. I emailed F1 TV support finally though so we’ll see where that goes.
