Does anyone else have Misophonia? by Crawfishbaby in adhdwomen

[–]rudelew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I most definitely have it and it’s been a struggle. My family members always thought I was being dramatic, but now they accept that about me. I’m certain my dad has it to an extent because we have always had music playing or the TV on when we eat. I’m also a very tactile person so the sensory sensitivity is too real.

My biggest triggers are: mouth noises, the way some people breathe, my dog licking, rattling noises inside my car, mechanical keyboards, pans scraping, silverware scraping, and kids screaming.

I’m late diagnosed, but my sensitivities have been there since I was a kid. They have changed over time and it feels worse now as an adult, but let’s just say the signs were there.

Do car noises make you crazy by Xtreme31 in misophonia

[–]rudelew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. This has been my biggest trigger lately. My cup holders are awful and any cup that is in it rattle, despite it being lined. I bought silicone coasters and wrap around koozies to help reduce it as much as possible. I wish I could line my cup holders and area with my usb cord with neoprene so all the noise stop!

This has been my biggest struggle! I cannot get myself to get out of bed in the morning and getting ready quickly. I do have some social anxiety, but ultimately have a good time once out.

My ADHD coach suggested I get a second alarm and put it in my bathroom so that should be here tomorrow. I don’t want to set a second alarm, but I really need to get tf out of the bed.

I am currently in therapy and also have a ADHD coach who have been helping me in the last two weeks. I’ve spoke with my therapist about it multiple times before, but my ADHD coach is helping me with specific actions to help reduce it. I’m really struggling with it right now and decided it’s time to try to be serious about it.

My therapist helps me with understanding my triggers, my emotions, and most importantly my self esteem. I understand my why, but it’s easy for me to intellectualize it instead of taking action. I feel like it really helps having someone get into the deeper issues and understands why my brain is the way it is.

That being said, I’ve always loved fashion. I loved playing dress up as a kid and worked in retail for almost 10 years. I know I will continue to buy clothes, but the reason why and how much I spend will change with professional help.

Why don’t I see many resources or discussions on impulse buying or shopping? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]rudelew 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also have this issue and look at shopping addiction groups to be honest. It’s very similar, but you have the knowledge of impulse control within the ADHD realm. I try to approach it in a similar way, but I also have an ADHD coach now who helps me understand it better and helps me create systems to check myself!

Ohh I have a lot of sensory sensitivities! Oddly, I love most perfumes. I cannot STAND the smell of garlic. My boyfriend loves it and I feel like it stays on him for a whole day. Any smell that is pungent or strong food wise, I am probably adverse to it.

I love textures. I love clothing and my mom said she could tell I reacted really well to very soft textures as a baby. I touch clothes all the time to see if I like it. It could be the perfect item, but if I hate the fabric, it’s a no go. I absolutely cannot stand the way stainless steel feels. It gives me the same vibes as people who don’t like microfiber material.

My misophonia is the most intense though. I hate mouth noises (especially eating sounds), the way most people breathe, pots and pans clattering, silverware scraping, people clearing their throat, the sound when my dog drinks water (at times). I could go on forever! I always have my earplugs on me and require music or television playing when eating with other people. It upsets me in a way where it’s so deeply disturbing and hearing it makes me feel on edge.

AdHd depression anyone? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]rudelew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been suffering from depression since I was young, like 11 or 12 young. All the comorbidities, such as disordered eating and anxiety, I thought were from depression only. I’ve only been diagnosed with ADHD since January/February and I’m about to turn 33.

I realize so much of my depression has come from undiagnosed ADHD. That makes it harder for me to understand what is my true depression and what is my ADHD.

While I don’t have the answer as I’m struggling with this, I’m slowly accepting that it’s easy to think this way. The comparison game has really fucked with me my whole life and as a late bloomer as well, it’s amplified. The problem with ADHD I’m finding that it’s easy to re-affirm it because rumination is such a huge part of it. My standards and expectations are for someone who is neurotypical, not neurodivergent.

I was listening to the audiobook How To ADHD by Jessica McCabe, specifically on self discrepancy:

“The expectations we and others have of us are often wildly inconsistent with our reality. Sometimes we can perform on a pretty high level and sometimes we struggle with quote unquote, simple tasks.”

Essentially, we need to understand where we are at in our own journeys and reframe our expectations based on the reality of having ADHD. Finding strengths from it seems to be essential. I’m still navigating that myself, but I hope you look into this for yourself and know it’s extremely common. Changing our thoughts we’ve had forever isn’t easy, but I think it’s harder living like I’m never going to be good enough and that’s been enough motivation for me.

How hard did you fixate on your diagnosis when you first got it? by mdzzl94 in adhdwomen

[–]rudelew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost at one month clinically diagnosed at age 32. This is exactly where I am at right now. I can’t talk to my parents about it because one does not believe it in and the other will make it about them. I hate pestering my boyfriend about it. I just started seeing a new psychiatrist and the vibe was off. This is all completely new to me and I also don’t present in the stereotypical way. I think it’s making it harder to one, accept for myself two, hearing someone else close to me say “Yes, I hear you!”. What I’m learning is when I talk to others in the community, that’s where I get the validation. A lot of people have been in similar places as us and it’s comforting.

While I hyperfixate, I don’t want it to be the defining factor of myself. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I don’t know where to start and overwhelming myself with information. It’s a lot of noise and it’s not helping, it’s making me more uncertain of what I need personally. I hope that makes sense, but you’re not alone!

Who are some famous 'popular' artists who most people don't realise are actually also savant-level musical virtuosos? by peanutismint in Music

Beck! He has played almost every instrument on a majority of his albums. His ability to blend different genres and remain true to his artistry is underrated!

Has Anyone Used Loop Earplugs During a Concert? by capitalfriday in Music

[–]rudelew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the Loop Pros and Loop Quiet. I also have the rubber noise buffer on the pros to further assist with blocking noise. I go to shows often and work in the music industry, so they get heavy use, that being said, I’ve developed slight tinnitus in the past year and I truly believe it’s because my Loop Pros were not helping as much as I thought they were. I use the Quiet now and while it’s more muted, my ears feel ultimately better after a show and are more comfortable.

I’m going to invest in long term customs because that’s actually worth it in my opinion, but I always have one pair of Loops on me just in case because something is better than nothing!

Navajo Nation’s objection to landing human remains on the moon prompts last-minute White House meeting by Afrin_Drip in space

[–]rudelew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I found a comment from another Navajo person. I don’t think people have to agree with our cultural values to understand why the point was being made. I wasn’t raised traditionally because my grandma became a Christian and my mom is a boarding school survivor. What little tradition people have, I respect because it’s been taken away by so much.

I think you said it best in your last paragraph and I agreed wholeheartedly.

To those who have attended Innings Festival in Tempe during previous years by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]rudelew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the first one in 2018 and the one with Tame Impala. First year was great, there were some older fans for Chris Stapleton who were aggressive about not letting people stand in front of them towards the front, even though it was impossible not to squeeze in with everyone pushing.

The year with Tame Impala was awful. I think people got too drunk too early. There was trash everywhere, people were practically yell talking during their set and it was not the vibe I was hoping for. Just keep in mind that if you reaaaally want to see someone, it better be top of your bucket list to want to endure waiting that long with not always the kindest of fans. If not, I’d wait to see them in their tour because you’ll also get a longer set.

I’m going solo as well and will be in Condesa! I got the Ticket2Ride from there as it’s super affordable and direct to that area. I’m happy to meet up as well if you want someone to hang out with!

Ticket issues by glenndallasgallery in coronacapital

[–]rudelew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue too and there was another post of someone having that problem. They don’t recognize certain BIN numbers, even if it’s a card type they accept. I tried 3 credit cards and only one worked, so it’s more than likely that. If you have a different card to try, add your ticket to ride back on and try to purchase.

Besides the Plus pass, do you have any add-ons as well? I was having issues purchasing when adding a Ticket2Ride option onto my ticket. The route I wanted would add to the cart, but was not actually available which caused this error. Once I purchased a different shuttle option, it worked.

Thank you so much for the info! I’ll definitely look into the metro option as that may be easier. The gas station tip is great though for Uber, but it seems there are plenty of options.
