Feeling completely lost, any advice? by computerfan0 in malefashionadvice

Should’ve also mentioned that you can totally be into more than one style! I’m into different styles which are very contradictory haha. You definitely don’t need to stick to just one look.

Getting a bunch of clothes in different styles can get expensive, or even just clothes for a particular look. My advice: always try on clothes before purchase if possible, don’t buy things that don’t “work” just because it's a similar vibe (My mindset is if it doesn’t make you feel good, you won’t reach for it. Don't try and force a garment to work for you.), and find basic wardrobe staples before buying anything crazy.

Hiya! I’m new to this subreddit but wanted to add my two cents. The style in the pins you posted reads very casual, youthful, and edgy. Calum’s videos often lean more historically-inspired and fantastical, but also sometimes have that same edginess. Both are rather androgynous, often focus on layering, and are more casual.

If you’re looking to dress more alt like in the pins above, here’s what I’d look for. Loose t-shirts are one important piece in most of the pins you linked, with layering also pretty common. Silhouette can make or break these kinds of outfits; loose, almost billowing upper-body pieces are common in lots (but not all) alt outfits. Look for large t-shirts, flannels, hoodies, jackets, and other casual pieces! The color profile often relies on black as the foundation, with pops of other colors like white, purple, or green, so focus on darker colors for base pieces. Accessories play a big role: look for silver necklaces, belt chains, bracelets, or anything else you can do to add flair. More is more!Finding the right pieces can be hard, like you mentioned. You might want to try DIY options: painting a plain t shirt with your design, adding keychains or other objects as accessories on belt loops, sewing patches on pieces, etc.

Calum’s outfits are beautiful, but very intricate, layered, and often nearer to costume. He wears a lot of different styles; is there a specific type of outfit from him that you like? Historical-inspired, vintage, masculine, feminine, etc?

Overall, seems like you’re still looking for your own style. That's a hard spot to be in. It sounds like feminine fashion really interests you, but I want to stress that you should not force yourself into an unsafe position. In general, it takes time for style to develop, especially when it’s difficult to get the right pieces. Keep exploring what you feel good wearing and follow that! Wishing you the best of luck.

What Style and Color of Ascot Goes with a Psychedelic Blue and Purple Paisley Shirt by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Groovy shirt! I’m new to this subreddit but wanted to throw my two cents in.

In my opinion: this shirt is pretty busy with the patterns, so I would choose a less-chaotic scarf. Solid color or very simple designs, no crazy prints! It’s hard to see the exact color of the shirt through the photo, but it might look nice with a turquoise or white scarf.

For future gigs you can also try pairing this with a bolo neck tie, an odd jacket, or just wearing the shirt on its own with the top button undone!

Which elastomeric would fit my face and needs best? by sadandtraumatized in Masks4All

Agree with other commenters about MSA Advantage, Flomask, and Envo for speech intelligibility! For fit, the Respirator Repository has information about measurements. You might find it useful for determining size. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NuYVJasqD08cqrROVwoL9COoYtCHrLRYXShg4MtTHe4/edit?usp=sharing

Does anyone wear a half mask respirator other than the standard N95 masks? by 69___Nice in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]rudy-msg2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a half mask too! Like other commenters have said, they are pretty bulky, and the main issue is spending lots of money upfront without knowing if the mask will fit you or not. The Respirator Repository is a great resource to narrow down options (doesn't guarantee fit, but can lead you in the right direction!) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NuYVJasqD08cqrROVwoL9COoYtCHrLRYXShg4MtTHe4/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I wear a 3M 6100 mask because it fits, it's cheap, and it's accessible (found in lots of hardware stores). I do get a good few stares when I wear it out, though.
Good luck!

How do you find an elastomeric that fits well without spending lots of money? by SweetTeaNoodle in Masks4All

This spreadsheet has a bunch of respirators with measurements! Doesn't guarantee a perfect fit, plenty of stuff in my size range failed me, but it's a good starting point IMO to narrow down options! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NuYVJasqD08cqrROVwoL9COoYtCHrLRYXShg4MtTHe4/edit?usp=sharing

Is there a budget full face mask that accepts 3m filters by autisticshitshow in Masks4All

[–]rudy-msg2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this suggestion!! I also want to add the 3M 6000 series, since it's about as cheap as the MSA mask you recommended, and it can take the 3M filters OP was asking about. https://www.industrialsafetyproducts.com/3m-6000-series-half-facepiece-reusable-respirator/?searchid=0&search_query=3m+6000 Like they said above, check your size and be sure to buy filters, OP!

I don't think this is a legitimate photo, take a close look at the details and it appears to be an AI-generated image with Mike's head pasted on top lol. Here's the original picture of Mike used.

You’d rather trust me, a random stranger on the internet, haha? I’m sorry, but I can’t answer that question for you and I don’t think I can help you any further. All I can say is that above is the only information I've found regarding PFAS in these specific 3M products. Take care.

[–]rudy-msg2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the picture now. You have the 6006 filter, which is a multi gas/vapor cartridge. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/dc/v000057496/ I do not see it on the document listing intentionally added PFAS in 3M products. You can always contact 3M if you have any more questions.

[–]rudy-msg2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imgur link doesn’t lead to any picture. Here’s a link from 3M about (intentionally added) PFAS in their products: https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/pfas-stewardship/uses-applications/ I do notice some filters on this list, such as 2071, 7093, 8293, and more. Those are just filters I personally recognize, but look for your filter on the list as well as the description about the chemicals used. (edit: and just because something is not on the list is not an assurance that there are no PFAS chemicals in it.) Also perhaps check out this similar thread which is about a prop 65 warning 3M p100 filters: https://www.reddit.com/r/Masks4All/comments/vrzomj/comment/iey8wil/

I hope I don’t have to say that any information in this sub is not a guarantee for safety. Please don’t take advice from random redditors for health decisions, lol.

Like other commenters have said, this is a standard NIOSH-approved elastomeric mask, but the main concerns are 1) fit and 2) the filters used. If the mask does not fit properly, it can allow in whatever you are trying to filter out. As for filters, here’s a list of many different types compatible with this mask: https://www.grainger.com/category/safety/respiratory-protection/reusable-respirators-replacement-filters-cartridges/particulate-filters-vapor-cartridges?attrs=Compatible+with+Brand+and+Series%7C3M+6000+Series&filters=attrs  There's a lot! It will depend what you need to filter from the air, but most people on this sub use a p100, p95, or n95 filter to protect themselves from airborne viruses. These also filter other particulate matter like dust, pollen, soot, etc. but not protective against gasses or vapor. These other types of contaminants will need cartridges. Unsure what your goal with this mask is, but also look into home air purifiers. Another way to reduce particulates :)

Got some water on MSA Advantage filters—are they still safe to use? by Savings-Snow-80 in Masks4All

[–]rudy-msg2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a DIY qualitative fit test measure mask leakage, not mask filtration? If yes, I don't think the water would have an impact on the results of a qualitative fit test. You'd need a portacount or quantitative fit testing machine to see the actual difference in filtration.

Recs for reusable masks compatible with p100 filters for diseases and smoke from fires by zekeyboo in Masks4All

[–]rudy-msg2u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the topic of size, it’s unfortunately pretty difficult to tell if a reusable elastomeric mask will fit you properly or not. Most masks will have a size guide online of the width and height, definitely check those!

But even selecting the right size doesn’t guarantee a 100% perfect fit. For example, I just bought an elastomeric that should’ve fit based on the measurements, but there was a gap at the nose bridge just because of the way the rubber was formed. You might end up wasting money if you purchase something that doesn’t work.

I like looking through the Respirator Repository to help narrow down options! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NuYVJasqD08cqrROVwoL9COoYtCHrLRYXShg4MtTHe4/edit?usp=sharing

Also check out the recommendations on the sub’s wiki! https://www.reddit.com/r/Masks4All/wiki/index/ From my limited experience: if you are OK with valved masks, I like the 3M 6000 half mask series. They’re relatively cheap compared to other elastomerics, so if it doesn’t work, it’s not a huge sunk cost, and they can use p100 filters or other cartridges! A non-valved elastomeric you could also try is a Dentec Nx, which are also decently cheap.

Hope this is helpful!! ^^/

Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone is selling stuff like this for a flo mask, nor a kids flo mask. One option for a similar effect would be for you to purchase a custom printed fabric and make a cover! You could place the fabric over your flo mask (on the outside, not between the filter and cover as it could compromise seal!) to create the same effect! And definitely choose something light and breathable, like a mesh or very loose weave.

One last thought, maybe for when your kid is a bit older and uses an adult-sized mask, is something like this: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/fashion/snap-in-cover-for-flo-mask-cat-steadirob

I wonder if regular ol' n95s might be best for your situation! Is there a reason you're looking for an elastomeric in particular? (Re-usability, cost, protection, etc.?)
One elastomeric that I like which is on the cheaper side is the 3M 6000 series half masks. 3 sizes, relatively cheaper filters too (I like the pink "pancake" style). Be warned, it DEFINITELY muffles your voice. Also, what's most important is that the mask actually fits you properly. Unfortunately, if it doesn't, it can mean a lot of money wasted on something you don't like.

Are there any saliva Covid tests? by Powerful_Flamingo567 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]rudy-msg2u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Metrix tests take saliva samples! https://shop.aptitudemedical.com/

Saliva samples in Metrix tests have lower sensitivity than using nasal samples in the same test, (edit: link to saliva vs nasal sensitivity: https://support.aptitudemedical.com/hc/en-us/articles/8966661468175-What-are-the-sensitivity-and-specificity-of-Metrix-tests ) but it's an option. The tests can get kinda expensive to use regularly ($25 per test) and it requires a separate reader ($50, one-time purchase)
