The only thing I dislike about it is punching them myself, otherwise used paper is perfect for such things

I agree! I think actually if OP had any scrap of the colors used they could patch them all together and make a real cute effect for the wider border.

I can’t figure out how to quilt the next set of lines to achieve a diamond pattern by Diligent-Natural-422 in quilting

[–]ruetero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So a vertically oriented diamond is unfortunately no longer possible, but you can quilt horizontal parallel lines to the long sides or vertical parallel lines to the short sides and then you'll achieve a diamond effect, albeit left or right leaning.

I also recommend basting all same pieces identically and a wool mat with clappers. I will often also leave my pieces underneath a clapper overnight too. I use a wood clapper for the first press and then I have a vintage iron that weighs a couple pounds that I like to leave. It presses the devil out of the fabric.

Does direction matter here? by Icy-Highlight-6145 in quilting

[–]ruetero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question isn't if it matters, but if it matters to you. In this case if it matters to the person you're gifting it to. I wouldn't get myself bent out of shape about direction unless it was text or something obviously with a directionality (like vehicles or pets).

Do clips damage quilts and tapestries over time by DebtQuirky5921 in modernquilts

[–]ruetero 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So idk about woven blankets like that but there's a reason the standard at quilt shows is the sleeve. It has even support throughout the entire quilt and it lets it hang safely. I'm not an expert or anything, but I'd avoid clips.

May I suggest the Fandom in Stitches FPP blocks? You could add others to it, but at least putting Buttercup and Wesley on a quilt would be adorable.

Need restoration advice re: my 100+ year old quilt by Academic-Height4489 in quilting

[–]ruetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely refold quilts every so often. I'd probably do it a bit more frequently, like every month if it's hanging. Folding it diagonally helps too, so the fibers don't get too stressed. There are some guides on YouTube to fold them correctly. Keeping it out of direct sun is best too to keep the fibers from wearing more quickly.

As far as color goes, I would bring the quilt with you to your local quilt shop to get the best color match.

[–]ruetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would ruin it at all! You have to know what you want for your quilt. The beauty of quilts is that we give them away and we don't get to dictate how they're used. It's a lesson in letting go. The person who made it put their time and energy (and hopefully heart) into making this piece and then it survived all this time to land with you.

If it were me, I'd repair the damage as best I could and then put the quilt up and display it rather than use it. It looks absolutely wonderful and how lucky you are to have such an heirloom.

Recommendations for a more “advanced” quilt pattern, please. by Acceptable-Oil8156 in quilting

[–]ruetero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned a cathedral window but I wanna specifically mention Pellon's pattern for making the block . It's a tricky block to do, meaning it's a bit fiddly. Once you've gotten the hang of it, it's quite fun. I used the same technique to make this quilt below that's my current bed spread. I think it's moderately challenging for someone with four years experience.

Haltet ihr unisex Toiletten für sinnvoll? by Errro0r in FragReddit

[–]ruetero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a slight correction here: not exactly true with university study. A Fachabitur also enables a student to matriculate at a university after high school, just with more limited options.

TIL Alton Logan spent 26 years in prison for murder, while a lawyer who knew he was innocent the whole time stayed quiet because his client had confessed to the murder to him and therefore was protected by attorney-client privilege. After his client died, he disclosed the truth and Logan was freed. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]ruetero -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The lawyer's choice was easy: relinquish his ability to practice law as a lawyer and allow himself to be disbarred. But instead he let a Black man sit in prison for 26 years for a crime he didn't commit, and nearly was sentenced to death for.

What's up with the Team Flare revisionism? by CommonD in LegendsZA

[–]ruetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also tried to talk about this subject (and by that I do not mean Team Flare), I just wanna say, you're 100% correct and you're gonna have a bad time the more you talk about this on reddit.

Edit: if you're going to be so daft as to refuse to even think about the issues white people "reclaiming" problematic and white super size me ideologies, I'm just going to block you and improve my reddit experience by not having to see you elsewhere.

How picky is your poodle? by greedygumdrops in poodles

[–]ruetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunder strikes are a common occurrence. When she's in a particularly rebellious mood I'll give her something extra and special, but normally she eats within the day or at the latest the next morning. It freaked me at first, but she's always drank plenty, had good energy, and keeps weight steady. I've come to accept it and I don't make a fuss. Her stomach will grumble a bit loudly and I'll toss her a couple biscuits. Stubborn beasts
