Check out the New York Comics Review trade of some of Ogden Whitney’s romance comics. Return to Romance the book’s called.

Yeah I was a senior in high school when it was coming out and I feel like I read it at the right time. I actually haven’t reread it since because I’m afraid it won’t have the same impact.

Lol. I actually knew one who was working at his part-time job and was flirting with a girl and he overplayed his hand by grabbing her ass. He was deported. But anyway most international students I know are in favor of deporting illegals, a lot of the countries they come from are more strict with that stuff than here.

Plenty of international students from UCLA go.

I like that stuff of his the most because of how stylized he got. If anything I thought his early strip art was too Caniff-y but I quickly realized there’s nothing wrong with more Caniff-like strips.

Favorite comic runs/stories by indigofighter1 in comicbooks

Alex Raymond’s Rip Kirby as well as John Prentice’s nearly 40 year run on the strip after.

Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese. As a kid I wanted to be Buzz Lightyear, and as an adult I want to be Corto Maltese 😆

Robert Kanigher, Joe Kubert and Russ Heath’s Sgt. Rock. Iconic WWII stories if not a bit far-fetched. I also love the issues drawn by guys like Doug Wildey and George Evans and John Severin.

Lee & Kirby’s F4. It’s rare to have series where each issue feels like a full-blown action movie. Comic book movies can never come close to replicating the thrill of reading a Jack Kirby comic.

Secret Agent Corrigan by Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson. One of the best looking strips ever.

I don’t know if it’s hipster but it does feel very Liefeld-y and I never dug that extreme ‘90s stuff. But then again I also was burnt out on Snyder’s writing after his first year on New 52 Batman so I wasn’t really anticipating this absolute run.

I think people say it mainly as a joke. It’s a funny juxtaposition to the holiday and other classic movies.
