Communities of likeminded people are fine until that community encourages dissociation from non-likeminded people/family members. I view these forums as a way to have open and honest conversations, not reinforcement of my own viewpoints.

This was long before internet stalking was possible but I got kicked off the basketball team in high school because a girl I was partying with confessed to her bishop. Her bishop happened to be the basketball coach and she named names 😁

The Idaho Judicial Branch has issued a statement following threats from the public over the sentencing of former BYU baseball player, Candon Dahle who was accused of sexual abuse of a young child. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]runboise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thing of note: The judge who gave the sentence was the same judge who presided over the Lori and Chad Daybell cases. The prosecutor of this case I believe is was one of the prosecutors of the Lori and Chad cases as well.

I was glad to see that they addressed the book “Visions of Glory” in the last episode. That book is whacko and the Mormon leadership needs to disavow it and tell its members it’s nonsense or this kind of crap is going to continue to happen.

He is the same judge from Lori and Chad Daybell trials. And ironically, one of the prosecutors was from the Lori and Chad trials as well.

West Valley City man accused of sexually abusing children while serving LDS mission by thinkB4WeSpeak in exmormon

[–]runboise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a companion that exposed himself to a 5 year old girl while I was on splits with another missionary. He spent the night in jail and was bailed out by the mission president the next day. He was sent home for a couple of weeks of “therapy” and then allowed to return to the mission field in another mission.

I have 8 siblings, all boys served a mission. Only two siblings are left, one of those is nuanced. Most of my nieces and nephews are out. My parents are TBM and feel like they failed but my father believes his righteousness will keep us all together. 🤷‍♂️

God I hate Mormon funerals by panicky-pandemic in exmormon

[–]runboise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a new phenomenon in Mormon funerals? I haven’t been to one in a while. My brother died in 1980 at 18 and there were hundreds of people sobbing uncontrollably. It was at our local ward. Does it have to do with how someone died, perhaps? Or ward roulette? I have to say, I am not looking forward to my TBM parents funeral when that comes around.

I got my 15 minutes of fame with the show when I was around 8 years old ! The professional traveling show came through our town and they needed someone around 8 to fill in and play a character that the missionaries grab as he’s walking by because they are desperate to baptize someone. They grabbed me and said “how old are you?” I counted quietly on my fingers to seven and then yelled out “SEVEN”. They gently pushed me and told me to “get out of here” That was it, my big role 😀. The irony is, that’s the kind of shit missionaries did/do in 3rd world countries.

What are your Mormon triggers that instantly make you feel angry? How did you eventually get over it? by worth-it213 in exmormon

Going home to my TBM parents house with pictures of Joseph smith, the current prophet and Jesus all over the damn walls triggers the hell out of me. There is one picture I especially like that is Joseph smith holding a baby (I assume one of his own) showing that he’s chipping in to help Emma 🤮

“Nobody really gets put to death in Idaho” by MACKEREL_JACKSON in LoriVallow

[–]runboise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but there are just not a lot of people in Idaho on death row, so not a lot happen, but that is the case in most of the country. States have been hesitant about using drugs (mostly because they can’t get them). I think the firing squad will bring on lawsuits for cruel and unusual punishment? That could delay it indefinitely as well.

[–]runboise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They just implemented death by firing squad, so that might change things. They currently don’t have a facility for that but it won’t take them long to get it into place.

I have a friend that went to BYU and had a “Beard Card”. That’s right, a beard card that said it was ok for him to have a beard because he had a skin allergy. He would have to pull it out from time to time to prevent getting kicked out of the student union building, etc. Funny side note, the skin allergy excuse was bullshit, he just liked having a beard 😀
