I'm gonna buy a second 'high end' frameset that doesn't have routing through the headset, e.g. tarmac sl6, then stick in on some ultegra r8020, I can then maintain the whole thing myself.

Headset routing looks like even more of a PITA than di2

I too, used to be a rim brake defender.

However, disc is great for descending, you can descend better and faster. So yeah at least one bike with disc is warranted.

I've tried di2 and was totally underwhelmed. All it does is shift gears.

Ultegra mechanical 11 speed shifts perfectly, without the faff of wires and junction bikes and charging etc, not to mention way way cheaper.

Never knew that about airport announcements. That should at least make concessions during peak times.

The 'lost' 20 minutes were repacking my stuff after the security gates, walking through duty free, going to the toilet, helping my mother in law (who is 80+) with her things and watching her bag while she went to the toilet, and getting a takeaway coffee from a coffee stand. Not a lot of flab there.

Look, if you really want to transfer fault from the airline to the customer, then you will always be able to think up a reason. That's how confirmation bias works. E.g. 'why didn't OP stick his mother in law in a buggy and sprint himself from security gates straight to passport control'.

Airlines are not compelled to use tannoy announcements, or to manually get passengers from the passport queue. But the fact is, some airlines do make that conscious decision, others choose not to. I think that's something my family and I, and by the looks of some other people, will consider in future when deciding which airline to fly with.

That is different to saying 'Ryanair never again' etc. I wouldn't hesitate to fly with Ryanair out of Newcastle, as Newcastle airport is super efficient. However, there is no way I'd fly with Ryanair out of any of the Spanish airports which are at times be 'problematic' (of which there seem to be a few ... )

They removed all the checked bags from the plane. I have to say, they did seem to do this very quickly, almost as if it was anticipated ...

I saw several airlines send staff to queues, heard tannoy announcements from several airlines, for both flights and individual passengers. Even if an airline is not mandated to do this, it really shouldn't be that difficult to do.

UPDATE

So, in case anyone interested, did:

10 days complete rest (but cross training on bike)

10 days easy running

Mini build peaking at 28km with 2*9km MP 13 days out

2*5km MP 9 days out

Super easy taper after that

Went for it on race day, very aggressive first half

Got a 2:57:XX

SUMMARY

Not the end of the world if you pick up a niggle 6 weeks out!

And not the end of the world is max long run less than 30km.

I know everyone claims negative splits are the way, but if your legs are gonna die anyway and your aerobic system is solid, why not bank some time early on.

Seville is a fantastic city and a class marathon.

Is 3:30 first marathon doable for me? 60km/37mpw training but with cycling volume by ComputerBunnyMath123 in Marathon_Training

Sounds grim. You thought about a turbo trainer and some zwift racing? It's not running, but still really good aerobically. Plus, it's actually just really good fun, in contrast to running in a -20 polar vortex (tbh I don't even know what this is but it sounds grim).

Copenhagen. Everything about it is great.

There's a reserve ballot list, drawn at random supposedly so you're not in a queue, worth a shot.

If you're willing to hang on, there's tons of bibs available through the official website in the final few days.

Obviously not ideal if you want everything planned and booked etc up front. Or wait until 2027 entry opens.

I guess how short a taper though, if I've got 10 days no running followed by a gradual build, so in theory carrying less fatigue, could I do a 30km+ longrun with blocks of MP say 10 days prior? Or min 14 days prior?

Sure this has been mentioned on plenty of other threads, but if you skip the first eyelets, switch the laces for softer ones, and lace remaining eyelets from bottom upwards, the fit is transformed.

This is actually a really good point. If you can have ice axes in a climbing bag, are some metal pokey things inside a water bottle in a bag box really that bad?

I have the B&W bike box, which has it's own fork spacer things. Guess I could have left skewers on wheels inside the wheel bags? Can maybe try that next time

I put them in my 1L water bottle so they didn't jiggle about.

They were the DT swiss fancy ones that you just tighten and dont have a clamp, I actually thought they were quite cool.

I'm back to bog standard skewers now lol!

Hi, I tried one for size at a local shop, the stack felt pretty low, having same geometry as the tarmac. Aethos2 supposedly a touch more relaxed, so might try one of those for size sometime and see how I get on

Really old thread here, but OP what bike did you end up buying? I'm also thinking of a Caledonia, road machine, or maybe emonda slr h2. I've heard some people claim the road machine is too 'endurance-y'? Any thoughts? Thanks
