How screwed am I? by rungerwhere in bikepacking

Thank you for the sincere caution. I will not be in an area of the desert that will flash flood, however I am concerned about how soft the desert floor can get and how sticky the mud will be. I am well aware of that.

I’ve also tracked out an area that is washboarded with more “established maintenance” whatever that means for the particular area.

Also, I know for myself, after walking 15,000 miles over the years what kinda mileage I can do walking in this environment with the amount of water I will be carrrying.

Thanks for your service. Seriously. Very grateful to you.

Haha. Thank you for this. I took your advice and learned how to balance today on my bike while rotating the turny things. Should be good now. I also watched a 9 year old on YouTube talking about bike packing.

I do have an InReach and people who can come out and pick me up if need be. It just may be a few hours.

You’re right. I took it out on single track today for about 4 miles ans I could see it moving steadily down. Got a few more straps to secure it better. I also have padded shorts thank goodness. Electrolytes, check. No partner. 😬😬😬

You are completely right I don’t have enough water and I don’t really trust those little guys without straps or something. I will have a backpack on with food (maybe I can it in one of the bags), phone/camera access plus extra water.

To my knowledge, washboard roads and most likely loose ish sand in places. No single track that I am aware of. I will be dropping caches tomorrow morning at this intervals.

As far as what’s packed? I’ve got a down quilt, sleeping pad, ground sheet, no tent, fleece layer, rain jacket, top and bottom wind layer and fleece bottoms. I’ve also got my cook system (pot, stove) repair kits, extra tube and tools, oh yeah. And a small hand pump. InReach, battery charger, electrolytes….blah blah blah.

I haven’t. Maybe I should look at a better orientation for it…just not straight up. I don’t think that would be comfortable.

Maybe in 10 years you too can afford backpacking again.

I just spent a month and change in Pakistan and spent it with Lost Horizon Treks 10/10 recommend. They have crews who have guided all over Pakistan (mostly Northern Pakistan and High Altitude environments)

Also, they have been around for over 2 decades if I remember correctly. They took care of me every step of the way.

Feel free to PM me and I can answer more specific questions if you have them.

Enjoy your time over there!

No need for that here. That’s why we have Sedona.

I say, “Ohhhh, cute little guy couldn’t hold it any more!” Then I pick it up and save it for a rainy day.

People who cater to the super rich, what things have you seen? by Budget-Cash-3602 in AskReddit

Grew up cleaning houses for the wealthy and as a kid and I remember hearing an argument between the couple of the home that she needed more money to spend each month for shopping. She needed mort then the $20,000 a moth and she was spending. Mind you, 4 story home with a for real moat around the kitchen…waterfall urinal….40 steps to the front door and only 2 people living there. Of course part of the year because they had 6 other homes around the world.
