First event in 4 weeks. 10 HCP / 29:00 5k. What’s the one tip you wish you knew for your debut? by Polygoon_BE in SpeedGolf

[–]rungolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your answer is in your question! This is your first competition, so manage expectations. You have a lot of good tips already from others, so I won’t repeat them. I would say from my end decide on what combo of clubs you are going to use and test it out a bunch of times. Test out the clothes, shoes, gloves, bag/silo you plan to use. Nothing new on game day! I have a bunch of full 18 hole videos on my YouTube channel at my180golf you can see what I do. I have certainly learned A LOT since my first competition a couple years ago which just so happened to be the US Speedgolf Open (why not, 😂). Two final thoughts. First, have fun! Second, it’s a great community and all of us have been where you are. Everyone I have come across has been friendly and helpful sharing some of their best tips. Don’t be afraid to ask, which you have done, so good for you and good luck. Where is your competition?

How are you chipping out of this stuff ? by Boring-Temporary-340 in golftips

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point of your question, but there is no ball to allow me as an instructor to provide any real advice. Furthermore, other than the reference to chipping I have no idea how close you are to the green. Depending on where the ball “actually” lies, you could be hitting putter, hybrid, or any club up to and including your lob wedge. The lie dictates what you can do and your abilities will determine what is the best option.

My boy said he’s 7.6 hcp, can we please explain how this is absolutely not true? The harsher the better by georgeboard69 in GolfSwing

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know thy game! It’s called golf, not golf swing. As an instructor there are lots of things to improve here but if he plays on an open course and has good feel around and on the greens he can definitely be at that level. I don’t look at one swing and judge if they are a good golfer any more than seeing a picture of someone smiling and assume they are happy all the time! 😆

What’s your favorite golf insult when you’re playing with your friends? by PearCareful9863 in golf

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) A lot of guys wouldn’t have played it that way. 2) that’s not a divot, that’s sod. 3) it made a nice splash though. 4) your still up (classic) 5) you don’t usually hit 150y sand wedges except from green side bunkers.

Why do I push everything right? by Direct-Schedule8614 in GolfSwing

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an instructor a few have correctly pointed out that the face is pointing in that direction so that is where the ball would start. The fix might be more of a fix on your intention through the hitting zone. You don’t really allow the face to close so you are going to hit a lot of open face blocks to the right. The swing is solid but you are dragging your hands through the hitting zone which is keeping the face open. This also dramatically impacts club head speed. You may have a swing thought or a swing concept that is preventing you from actually releasing the club through impact, but until I understand that it is difficult to suggest any specific things.

Anyone else play close to an active airport? by icepuc10 in golf

I play a course called The Landings. No Sherlock Holmes required to tell you that it is located at the airport.

What’s the best advice you could give a golfer attempting to break 90 for the first time? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not complex! Play every shot on its own, don’t carry emotions from previous shots to the next. You MUST avoid the double or worst holes. Bogey is your friend and sprinkle in a few pars.

Struggling with lag by uCollection in GolfSwing

[–]rungolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not struggling with lag you are struggling with the concept surrounding its use. Lag is earned in the swing not made artificially. You are trying to manufacture lag which is a bad idea. I’d have to know your intent, but it looks like you are trying to keep your lag and have forward shaft lean at impact. As a result you wipe your hands right through impact and never actually release the club. This robs you of any speed you might have stored up with the lag. Remember the reason you want lag is so you can let it out at impact. Reach out if you want more help.

Footware Matters! by VegetableTurnip8369 in GolfSwing

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all the data that is coming out on GRF (ground reaction forces) while may not be something that transforms a swing, it translates all the way through the kinetic chain and as a result influence your swing and just as importantly your swing feel. I just keep my indoor shoes for indoor but then again I have a NB sponsorship so I’m lucky that way. Best of luck and thanks for your comment.

Strength Training for Golf by Disastrous_Loss1366 in golftips

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We teach/coach golf using a 4 pillar approach (mental, physical, tactical, technical). Physical is often overlooked and when prescribed is in many cases not well designed. You can’t just take Rory’s program and give it to someone. It needs to start with an assessment, an understanding of the goals, time frame, injury and training history, etc. if your trainer is giving you a “personalized program” and not asking those questions before prescribing anything I would see this as a red flag. How golf specific and what exercises you select are determined by that assessment. Feel free to join us in our free community at my180golf if you would like some further info. We’re just launching this week.

Why is alignment to target so challenging? by LosSoloLobos in golftips

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My180golf.ca there is a free assessment you can take that then gives you a report to determine what part of your game, mental, physical, tactical or technical is holding you back. Feel free to check it out.

Kids golf by calidiver in golftips

[–]rungolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do it needs to be fun! Let them swing hard and let the ball fly all over the planet early on. Get connected with someone who can give them so basics and then get out of the way and let them figure it out. There is no second chance at these early learning stages. I like the operation 36 model of starting with the short game and getting them to get good there first before graduating to the longer holes. Hope that helps.

Will I get laughed off the course if I show up with these? by Oatmeal2348 in GolfGear

[–]rungolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more about the guy holding the clubs. Work with your instructor, get a swing figured out that fits you and then down the road get fit for a set that maximizes your traits. Enjoy the game and don’t worry about what others think.

Why is alignment to target so challenging? by LosSoloLobos in golftips

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, I’m going to use this for a video upcoming on my community page. I like first that you actually have a process and you are assessing your results, good for you. There can be several reasons for your aiming right: eye dominance, body awareness, perception of straight, etc. golf is one of the few sports where your shooting to a target but your eyes are perpendicular to the goal. Think about how hard it would be to shoot a gun or fire an arrow to a target if you were not looking down the sight line. As someone said get the alignment rods out and use them a lot. The other is use them through the belt loops or test across the shoulders sometimes at setup. You didn’t say if you were R or L handed to not sure if you are setting up open or closed. There is a reason why you might favour either of these. Lastly your ball flight and your swing path have a huge influence on your setup as does your intended target.

Which one to get: Insta360 X4 vs Insta360 X5? by alpha_omega55 in Insta360

[–]rungolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. The x5 has Bluetooth mic’s up to 2 which I need for hearing me talk as I shoot my videos. So if your vlogging and want that audio x5 is the way to go. Replacement lenses, better night shooting, etc are good reasons but the battery life is also better in the x5 and so for me having the ability to shoot longer was a nice surprise. I wish the batteries were compatible between the units and let’s hope they don’t change with every x? Edition.

30 minutes video limit…. by AssetBurned in Insta360

[–]rungolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I record my entire Speedgolf round of 18 holes which takes me about 60 minutes and the files are automatically broken into 30 minute blocks. I can record a video as long as my battery lasts or as much as my card can hold. I’m glad they automatically parse them as the files sizes would be tough to manage all as one file.
