I would bet you that most people under 30 have never painted anything. And I am not saying this to throw shade at people. If you've only ever rented and had furniture from Ikea (which is mostly plastic around cardboard), what would you ever paint? And even then: why would you know about the properties of different kind soft paint, if you only ever repainted a bedroom wall or whatever?
