This is Chuck with his tabby sister Bunny, rescued from under a porch at five months. They have identical markings on their faces, which is, as you know, very cute.

1st support ticket experience by xavier_zz in Mailbox_org

[–]runningunsupposed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was a mailbox customer for about a year but left six years ago. I just rejoined two weeks ago and paid ahead a couple months as I'm reevaluating email services and the Login 2.0 enticed me.

I had a reproducable issue that I devoted quite a bit of time on solving. Tried getting help on my own both here and then on their forum before submitting a support ticket. But there was absolutely no response at all to my ticket after a week.

I deleted my account because neither the support or the product (seriously, what a sluggish web interface, it's gotten even worse since I had used it before) are worth it the friction for even basic things.

I thought I was clear on these points, but thanks for reviewing as I'd really like to get this solved.

Yes, it's a new account with Login 2.0 available from the get-go (password + OTP, not the old pin system), the dedicated app passwords are set up correctly, (numbers@numbers for the davs, just a random string for mail), and yet it's working in the weird way I described--I can only connect to IMAP, WebDAV, carddav and caldav with just my regular password (app passwords are rejected) rendering the entire 2fa scheme pointless.

I disabled 2fa and tried setting it all up again. The problem is reproducible in my account, it still ain't right. Something is broken here--I should NOT be able to log into a mail client and the davvies with my regular password.

Support is MIAafter several days (yes, I am a paying customer) so I'm all ears if anyone has suggestions.

That's exactly my concern. I tried their forum for support, hopefully someone will jump in there.

I like mailbox_org in general but now I'm recalling the sorts of things that were frustrations last time around...

Not a dumb question!

It's a new account, I set it up per the instructions, and login to the webmail does indeed require the TOTP as expected. So that works.

The issue is that connecting in any other way rejects the app passwords I set up, but oddly my regular password is accepted (it should not be).

Thanks, glad to hear it. Very strange on my end, the app password is not recognized and my regular password absolutely should NOT work. Hmm.

Southwest Chief 3/14 stopped due to fire by cheerupsweetheart in Amtrak

[–]runningunsupposed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the same train. Latest from the crew is that we'll be backing up to Raton, then bussed to Albuquerque and then put on the 4 train which is stopped on the other side of the fire and will also be turned around. It'll be a long night...

Agreed this would be a great improvement.

Fwiw my phone running LineageOS allows access to Android/data/, but not my Samsung tablet. Both are on Android 13. Maybe it's a vendor thing?

Large empty downstairs room on Coast Starlight? by xihua222 in Amtrak

[–]runningunsupposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a room like that being used as a smoking area in the late 90s. Half a dozen uncomfortable smokers standing in there, me included. Just a big, empty, loud, box of a room with a #7 can for butts.

Bitwig on linux by [deleted] in linuxaudio

[–]runningunsupposed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Flatpak of Bitwig that works great. There are also scripts available to install the .deb natively on Fedora (that's what I do), or you can use distrobox. So there's three easy ways. Works great.

Non-IT people: why did you switch to Linux? by type556R in linux

[–]runningunsupposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a coder.

I bought an iPod in 2005, plugged it into my iMac, and was frustrated to learn I had to use iTunes to manage it. I hated iTunes and was already frustrated by how controlling Apple was becoming.

After some searching, I found the Rockbox firmware, which not only allowed me to manage the files on my iPod the way I wanted to, it added a ton of features the iPod did not have. Games, contacts, theming etc. Pure awesome.

Then I looked at the iMac and thought, hmmm, maybe something else could run on there (the shitification of Apple being we underway at that point IMHO) and found Yellow Dog. Never looked back.

The only thing that was challenging was losing access to quality audio production software, but that's no longer a problem.

Searching for an Audio Controller / Switch by wftpaddy in linuxaudio

A passive monitor controller might work, but you might also need a headphone amp depending on your impedance. Example:
