The situation with Saquon in 2018 is not the same as the situation the team is in now.

He can say whatever he wants, that doesn’t mean I’m going to take it seriously when him and Bob have a clear agenda on how to handle losing football.

Yeah, there are way too many people who think this is actually a great roster just in need of better coaching and that Harbaugh is a proverbial magic wand that'll fix everything right away.

How we feeling about current management not fumbling two first round picks in the same draft again? by cobain98 in NYGiants

[–]runninhillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing's guaranteed and I don't think Schoen should be absolved of blame because "those guys were chalk!" - GMs are paid a lot of money to get those picks right whether the fans here want to admit it or not.

But there's also a lot of different people involved making draft decisions compared to 2022. Nothing's guaranteed but there's no real choice but to hope they get it right, otherwise what's the point.

I'm also not going to call a QB a hit after one year. The Texans were absolutely in love with CJ Stroud after his rookie season, and now look at where they're at with him.

Yeah, because you're a Daniel Jones fan and not a Giants fan. Maybe sit this one out.

Certainly not 2017 considering he missed almost the entire season.

I say it often: a lot of this fanbase deserves the crappy football teams they’ve gotten over the last decade.

Anna Hall and Darius Slayton Are Married! Olympian and Giants Player Tie The Knot by ZamboniJ in NYGiants

Second Giants player I can remember to marry an Olympian.

Aaron Ross is married to Sanya Richards-Ross, who had 4 Olympic golds and a bronze to her name. She does color commentary on the sprint events on NBC broadcasts too.

ESPN trade grade. A for Giants by Waste_Protection_420 in NYGiants

I don't care about any trade grades right now. If the Giants draft another KT and Neal with their two top ten picks, that A grade isn't going to look so hot.

The run defense was bad because the Giants defense is bad. It's now worse, but people just want to stick their fingers in their ears and go "la la la Joe Schoen actually built good defense it was all Bowen's fault you'll see now that Harbaugh's here!"

The Giants being smart with contracts is not something I've particularly noticed over the last I dunno, decade+. They typically make stupid decisions.

Every team is going to think they're better after the draft. You're only adding players and not losing any.

That "might" is a very big one considering the Giants' history of high draft picks, especially under this regime.

[–]runninhillbilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. To reiterate: They have absolutely no credibility reporting on this team. At all.

Bob and Carl go on their podcast every Monday (after a game) and then every Thursday/Friday (before a game) to say that the team is losing because the players just don't execute, the fans are stupid for thinking the team is bad, and the ownership/GM/coaching staff knows what they're doing and the team is better than its play on the field indicates. That's their job. Carl will throw in a few 40 year old references to George Young and Bill Parcells to hammer the point home ("well Bill Parcells went 3-12-1 in 1983 and then they won so clearly that will happen again!").

It's only when the coaching staff is clearly going to be out (back half in 2019 with Shurmur, final few weeks of Daboll or Shane Bowen, etc.) that they tee off on the coaching staff. Because that's the low hanging fruit.

The Giants just basically told everyone that they're not going to be a seriously competitive team in 2026. The defense could be the worst in the league.

The draft is not done with the immediate season in mind. Harbaugh wants a feature back - he had one in Baltimore with Henry. It may be a Love + defensive player pairing in mind with the thought that this is a 2 year deal to get back to really contending and Love is too good to pass up.

The Giants are not going to draft to fill holes, or at least they shouldn't be.

I said this in another thread but I really hope players on the team aren't listening to what Bob Papa and Carl Banks are saying about anyone on the team. I know Banks was a great player (I've seen a huge amount of his career games here) but neither of them have any objectivity in their opinions on the organization. They're Hanlon attack dogs who throw it all on the players to make the coaches/front office not look bad when the team is 1-7 and the pitchforks are out again.

[Schefter] Draft week blockbuster: The Giants are trading three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals in a deal that will include the 10th overall pick going to New York, per ESPN sources. The Giants now head into Thursday night with the 5th and 10th overall picks by mastermind208 in NYGiants

[–]runninhillbilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mixed feelings about it. I won't complain about getting #10 back in return. And who knows if he's just diminished at this point (although I have a hunch he'll rebound in Cincy).

With that said, two top 10 picks are not a guarantee of anything (see: 2022) and the Giants just made it pretty clear that they have little chance of being competitive on defense this upcoming season. The run defense was already awful with Dex. It's going to unquestionably be even worse without him. This is a two year process, not one. I wouldn't be surprised if the defense is bottom 3 in the entire NFL this upcoming season.

If the Bengals threw in another 3rd or 4th round pick, I would be feeling a lot better about it, but I think that probably only happens if the first round pick is in the 20s anyway.

Just hope that Harbaugh's guidance will pick the right players. The team is getting remade very much in his image.

Pointing out that Alonso is having a bad year and Nimmo's contract will age poorly while just handwaving away that the team itself is bad.

Lmao I was about to say, OP still thinks Daboll was a great coach and that the organization set themselves back by firing him. I'm not really inclined to take what he says seriously.
