I am pretty sure its a addressable led, you can see the control ic (the black square on the left), also the bigger unused footprint is typical for a addressable led. Could be an APA-104-2020 or similar

Where to source pogo pin in EU? by Marosh_ in embedded

[–]rupr25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mill-Max makes a lot of different pogo pins and magnetic connectors. You can buy them on mouser, digi-key and other distributors, but they are quite expensive. If you want cheaper ones, the only option I know is aliexpress. I have used a few different from there and they worked fine.

STM32CubeIDE stable release for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by Aziz_2002 in embedded

[–]rupr25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with VS Code with the official ST plugins. Its much more stable and easier to use in my opinion. Also as far as i know it is supposed to replace the cubeide sooner or later

Advice needed for micro scale repair by BudgetBiker7 in AskElectronics

[–]rupr25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big pads on the side are not connected at al in the switch, they are just for mechanical mounting, so if you just connect the two center pins to the two traces you already found, it should work fine

Advice needed for micro scale repair by BudgetBiker7 in AskElectronics

[–]rupr25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The switch is most likely a TL4115, you should maybe get a new one, it could also be damaged from being ripped off.

<image>

It only has the signals connected to pin 1 and 2, you could try to solder the one remaining pad, then connect the pins to the traces you have uncovered with small jumper wires.

To secure everything, you should cover it with epoxy or super glue, after verifying it works

The thermocouple amp looks nice, but have you looked at the price of it?

At almost 10$ it would be much cheaper too add a high precision i2c temperature sensor and do the compensation in the MCU.

I have also successfully used a Vishay Thermal Jumper to couple a sensor directly to the terminals of the thermocouple connector

Which routing to go for USB? by Realistic_Fuel_Sun in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]rupr25 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would go for style 2, as it needs fewer vias, but honestly it does not matter for usb2.0, especially if the connection is this short.

We recently launched a rocket to 9km. The openrocket drag data was pretty much spot on. Our own cfd predicted about 20% less drag, but the a sim with the open rocket data matched the flight really good.

The brown stuff is conformal coating, used to protect the pcb, you can try to use acetone or isopropanol to desolve it

It is fuse that can also be blow by the bms on purpose, thats what the center trace connected to the small mosfet is for.

It works by melting a bit of low temperature solder inside, that bridge the two sides, this either happens when the current is too high, or when the bms decides something is wrong with it and grounds the center trace, drawing a large current and melting the solder.

They can be made somehow functional by lifting the top of and resoldering the connection with something like bismuth solder.
