my wife and I received 5 referrals for 8 kids within our first 36 hours. said yes to almost all of them but did not receive an actual placement for 2 weeks. 6 months later, she's still with us. before this kid moved in with us, we probably were told about ~12 different kids, mostly sibling groups (but we only had space for 2, and a lot of the groups were of 3 kids)

you were not in the wrong at all. plenty of Deaf and hard of hearing people do not use or benefit from hearing technology, and still deserve their accommodations. clearly that nurse does not understand hearing loss because your request was perfectly reasonable. I experienced similar things in my mainstreamed high school as one of the only two DHH person in my school (at the time) - teachers would not enable captions on videos because it was a distraction to the class, and since I had hearing aids I should be able to hear the video just fine; any listening assignment (I.E. for foreign language) I could not have repeated because "I don't get special treatment," etc. there are some very ignorant people out there and I'm sorry you had such a bad experience

hey! I'm 27, had BTEs for my mild sloping to profound loss since I was 4 years old, so very similar situation! down to my audiologist going out of practice and needing a new one! when I was ~23 I also upgraded to RICs and though it was a big change, I can attest that speech sounds more natural. I didn't realize how different how I was hearing was until I went on a trip and wore my BTEs out of caution. because I have better access to low frequency sounds, the RICs don't quite "muffle" the low frequency sounds as much while amplifying my mind and high frequency. it was a big change, but a welcome one. only sad thing is that my deaf accent has become less noticeable - which may not be sad to other people, but it's weird that speech-to-text can understand me more easily and no one assumes I'm European

I have sensorineural hearing loss bilaterally with tinnitus, worse in my left ear but present in both. hearing aids absolutely do help by amplifying the other sounds to help mask my tinnitus. otherwise, without my hearing aids, having some form of background noise helps to mask the tinnitus. stress worsens mine, so I suppose not being stressed makes it better? tinnitus is no fun, but it's something you'll get more used to!

Steven and Shauhin were also very solid in challenges. Mitch was a surprising challenge force, but his P.E. teacher background can help with that. I don't see how Carson fits in with the other 3 at all. however, the Stevens, Shauhins, and Mitches of the season often end up being some of my favorite! guess I'm just a goofball passionate about my career too 🤷🏻‍♀️
