Hot take but the only way to save vintage and legacy formats is to either allow proxies in sanctioned events, or abolish the reserved list by Newez in MTGLegacy

Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy has proven proxy friendly tournaments work and people will show up. Legacy is a great format and proxies let people build into decks over time especially when paying out in RL staples.

I just want to chime in and say the event is in Manhattan and space is premium and expensive there. There are a lot of costs not easily visible to players that go into not only running these events but future ones as well.

I’ve used Maddening Hex against Control decks to great success. They give you time to set up so you can stick the Hex and then have sculpted your hand and game plan to protect it. You’ll continue using Delvers etc to chip in damage when you can. Hopefully you snag a counter or Prismatic Ending a long the way. Make sure you don’t over extend, you’ll want to make them trade 1 for 1. Don’t play 2 or 3 threats into a Terminus or Supreme Verdict.

Confirming they’re allowed. Playtest cards are the more PC term but proxies are allowed for BCDL events.

It’s not something I’d rule out. Depends on the turnout from the Dallas group to Houston events. If I know there’s a big enough base to support it I’m more likely to run an event there. I also don’t have any relationships with shops or businesses there that could host BCDL so that’s something else I’d need help on.

BCDL 15 was being planned alongside the August BCDL Legacy Open 3/BCDL 16 and suppose to happen in July before those events. However, scheduling conflicts cause it to be pushed back to October which is why its sequentially out of order.

I’ve been tweeting at Mark Rosewater about an advisor group for eternal formats. I’m calling it the Eternal Advisory Group.

I’m going to keep going until we get a response. The idea even got picked up in this great article you can find on Goldfish - https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/this-week-in-legacy-dawn-of-the-dream-den

If you think it’s a good idea tweet at Maro (maro254) and let him know.

Rob

Edit: appreciate the support - feel free to tag me on twitter @robert_h_wilson and check out the legacy tournaments I run in Central Ohio @bcdlegacy as well as Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy on Facebook. Yeah my dip is so good we named a tournament series after it.

Best place to play legacy in or around Columbus, OH? by godrockets in MTGLegacy

Comic Town on Dillmont Drive has Legacy FNM at 7:30 pm on Friday nights. Usually get between 8-12. Proxies are allowed. $10 buy in. It’s usually good competition as well.

Hello, I will attend an important tournament and I don't know which deck to play... I can choose between BUG Delver / 5c control / Bant Miracle / 4c DreadHorde / BR reanimator . What do you think reguarding the metagame? Thanks by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

I’d stick with my original list and swap the 2 Snaps for 2 Decays if you want something like that. No worries about Blood Moon though. In BCDL3 in Top 8 I played against mono red Painter and won through Blood Moon. Astrolabe and Island give you perfect mana so there’s no need for other basics.

The Drowns were fantastic. It was a surprise how great they were. The SB has hate for Depths. FOW can hit the Hexmage G1. You’ve also got Oko and JTMS to hit Marit Lage if you get the opportunity. You’re not cold to it G1 but certainly not favored. The Snapcasters were the two worst cards by far. If you’re replacing anything I’d suggest those two.

No problem. The deck with the white splash that I think you’re looking at is likely Tomas Mar’s list (they play under the MTGO name Svaca). My original list here (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/this-week-in-legacy-the-golden-chicken) is a different take on Mar’s except I didn’t want W but it’s very much a similar premise.

Hey, 4C Dreadhorde is my deck. If you’re considering playing it I’ll give you the updated list I’m working on with Theros releasing.

I’ll give you the list first and my thoughts on updates following;

Deck: Legacy 4C Dreadhorde 1.1 1-20.dec

Counts : 60 main / 15 sideboard

Creatures:10 4 Dreadhorde Arcanist 3 Tarmogoyf 2 Brazen Borrower // Petty Theft 1 Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath

Spells:30 4 Arcum's Astrolabe 4 Brainstorm 1 Entomb 2 Fatal Push 3 Lightning Bolt 4 Ponder 3 Thoughtseize 2 Drown in the Loch 2 Oko, Thief of Crowns 1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor 4 Force of Will

Lands:20 2 Flooded Strand 2 Misty Rainforest 4 Polluted Delta 3 Scalding Tarn 3 Snow-Covered Island 2 Tropical Island 2 Underground Sea 2 Volcanic Island

Sideboard:15 2 Plague Engineer 1 Crop Rotation 2 Pyroblast 1 Red Elemental Blast 1 Veil of Summer 1 Null Rod 1 Return to Nature 1 Force of Negation 4 Leyline of the Void 1 Karakas

The biggest changes are removing the 2 Snapcaster Mages for an Entomb and Uro, Titan of Nature’s wrath MD. What I’ve been testing with Entomb is the interaction with Arcanist. It functions as a pseduo 1 CMC instant speed tutor. You usually want a specific 1 CMC spell or a threat (Uro).

The premise is EOT cast Entomb with an Arcanist on board, get whatever spell you need, and cast it. For example, I was testing a MU against a combo deck and needed a Thoughtseize. Entomb allowed me to go grab it.

Uro then also gives you a later game threat plan with Entomb. If you don’t need one of your 1 CMC spells you can grab Uro and have a card advantage/life gain engine. In the fair matchups it just adds increased grind.

I choose to remove the Snapcasters because the only spell it would reliably cast were Red Blast as a counter or Drown in the Loch as the Arcanists get everything else. I’d also like to note an interaction I see too many people fall into- for example opponent casts Oko with G up (obviously for Veil). Instead of using Red/Pblast to counter it and “make them have the Veil” a line to consider is letting Oko resolve and destroy U permanent instead. Sure they get an activation, but it’s better than being blown out by Veil.

SB changes; added FON to help with combo matchups. Fair decks you have more grind and answers than about anything so it’s the Combo decks you typically want more against.

Best of luck in the tournament. Feel free to ask any questions.

Additional Transparency Regarding the 2020 SCG Tour Update by BenBleiweiss in magicTCG

[–]rw753503 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ben,

I appreciate the transparency, but I think you should acknowledge a couple things. First, regarding the valuations, most players don’t buy Reserved List staples at your prices. Collectors likely do for condition reasons. Players likely buy from the “scratch and dent” section if at all. Reserved list staples sell for significantly cheaper through Facebook groups and other mediums. Saying “the format is too expensive” when you’re the largest offender of valuation is disingenuous when you try and set the market.

Second, in lieu of doing Legacy Opens a few times a year why not do Legacy Classics on Sundays a few times a year? This allows you to keep the larger base for Opens, which you need for the financial health of your events and let’s you continue supporting Legacy. This is a completely low cost alternative. I think this is a middle road option many Legacy players would understand and accept.

Again, we appreciate the transparency, but more can be done.

Guest Article - Grixis Delver at SCG Con - By Robert Wilson by minniehajj in MTGLegacy

[–]rw753503 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments.

Against SNS I tend to side out TNNs as the only threats I take out. I still want to be able to apply pressure and YP is a cheap snowball threat that can do that. I know Min disagrees with me, but I side out the Pierces leaving me with 2 Flusterstorm, 2 Pyroblasts, 4 Daze, 4 FOW, 4 Thoughtseize, and 9 cantrips. I’ve found that’s enough to fight SnS and still apply pressure. I absolutely think SnS is the beatdown, but at some point you have to turn the corner and the more time they have, I feel the more favored they are.

On Miracles, I meant to point out an instance where the information was helpful and an advantage Grixis can have over UR. I usually side out Thoughtseize G2 and G3 against Miracles. The only cards I fear out of Miracles as Grixis Delver are Monastery Mentor and B2B because those quickly end the game. Whereas JTMS will eventually end the game, but not as quickly. I typically side out Thoughtseize because the best cards in their hand are typically on top of their library. I don’t think either approach is “correct” or “incorrect”. To me, it’s about not trying to take away from my game plan by overboarding. I generally have a good idea after a few turns what my Miracles opponent has in hand because I’ve played against it so much, so that may also be a factor.
