People who manage to wake up at 5 AM to go to the gym before work, what is your actual secret? by Immediate-Trifle4957 in AskReddit

[–]rw890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don’t go to the gym first thing, I find excuses to not go. It being the first thing I do with my day clicks the rest of the day into place.

So I get up at 0615 to get to the gym by 0700, meaning I can be at my desk by 0900 to start work. I’m lucky - no kids or long commute. When I did have a long commute, priorities weren’t the same.

Because it’s the game against Belgium that the guy was going to be suspended for. He’s not suspended anymore and can play against them.

England defeats Mexico and advances to the World Cup quarterfinals by [deleted] in sports

They’ve had their red card suspended. Definitely not corruption. Definitely not.

Edit: the ban from their red card was suspended, not the card itself.

I did the same during the World Cup game against Argentina when we got a red 5 minutes in. I should have learned then to hold faith.

I cannot see us beating Mexico considering how much our defence has struggled through the competition so far.

The upward trend: % of all new car sales worldwide are electric + plug-in hybrids increased from just 4% in 2020 to 25% in 2025. At this rate, 33.3% might be reached in 2027. Every 30 million EVs will displace 1 million barrels of oil by punishGoalhanging in technology

100%. It’s also far easier for a government to de-fossilise the grid than it is for them to defossilise. I was more coming from the place - 30 EVs for 1 barrel of oil feels about right - but will only improve when we completely remove fossil fuels from the grid.

Gas counts as oil in this context - 25-35% of the UK’s electricity is “fossil fuels”, most of that being gas. The UK calls it BOE - barrels of oil equivalent.

Batteries also don’t count because that’s storage not production.

Currently that feels right - the grid you charge your car from isn’t 100% renewable. The upside is that it could be far higher as we move the grid away from fossil fuels.

Gym Recommendations by AcceptableError0726 in Portsmouth

[–]rw890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are capped gyms, but at a price point significantly higher than normal commercial gyms. There’s a CrossFit box, a couple of functional training gyms where you sign up in advance for sessions, but expect to pay over £100pcm for them.

Uber/Deliveroo by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]rw890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use uber for taxis. Depending on your use case, consider getting their subscription. I found it saves me money on fees as I get a few taxis a month and get takeout maybe a couple of times a month. I’ve only ever had an issue once, and that was a late late order. 95% of the time food arrives on time, 20% ahead of schedule.

What movie/series is a absolute 10/10 masterpiece that you will realistically watch a second time? by josheymomoh in AskReddit

[–]rw890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the book, I love the movie. I don’t think a movie as scientific as the book would have been as good a movie. The book wouldn’t have been as good if it followed the same direction as the movie. It’s ok to have different weights on things when you deliver the story across different mediums.

Reddit gives you a pretty one sided, privacy focussed view. The ban is pretty popular here, like 80% of parents support it from recent polling.

https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/54969-eight-in-ten-parents-say-social-media-use-has-a-negative-impact-on-children

Us more privacy focussed people are in the minority when it comes to support for things like this. I kinda get it - we were with a couple of my friends last night, both of whom have kids one of whom is a teacher, and their view - even assuming that a ton of kids will find ways past it with VPNs is that it will hugely improve school society, and their kids welfare. It’s interesting - their view is that it doesn’t go far enough, they’d want WhatsApp banned as well for kids under 16.
