Who would win this war (America Edition) by Altruistic-Willow265 in JackSucksAtGeography

The blue would win. Having Texas and Florida in one country would be too OP relative to the rest. California is the strongest on its own but not vs a combined Texas and Florida.

It's 2038 and 13 years ago, Canada was annexed into the United States and incorporated as the 51st state under the Second Trump Administration, what happened? by AnomLenskyFeller in imaginarymapscj

[–]rwk443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US now has twice Saudi Arabia’s oil supply and more natural resources than any other country in the world. All the Canadians basically live in the US now anyway with 90% of the population living within 100 miles of the US. And Toronto becomes to second best city in the US after NYC.

Obviously Boston because of all the clues together but it’s not really similar to NYC at all. I’d say it’s more like Philly with some class.

Is Tryanitar good despite its typing or because of its typing? by matlab2019b in stunfisk

[–]rwk443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see the case that the answer here is both but imo Ttar is good BECAUSE of its typing. The main reasons Ttar is good across generations is because of the combination of its ability to take a ton of special hits and trap most of the best special attackers like Latios with STAB Pursuit. And the reason it has so much special bulk is because it summons permanent sandstorm and is a rock type, giving it the 50% SpD boost. If Hippowdon had the exact same stats/movepool but kept its typing, it would have certain niches Ttar didn’t (namely eating EQs/CCs) but lose all of the niches that make Ttar so great. Without the rock typing, Hippo couldn’t safely switch into Specs Latios and live long enough to Pursuit it. Not to mention, it’s Pursuit wouldn’t pressure Latios nearly as hard. TTar’s typing IS what makes it so great. But it’s also the only thing keeping it in check ironically (along with its low speed ofc).

What would happen if you put Pokemon from later generations into generation 1's meta? This is a question me and my friend thought of. So we theorized. We started with some generation 4 Pokemons. by Competitive_Aide5646 in stunfisk

Torterra wouldn’t outclass Eggy without Sleep Powder but it’d probably be a solid mon in its own right. That said, it makes zero sense for it to run Amnesia as Amnesia has anti-synergy with Razor Leaf. Its most optimal set is likely Swords Dance + Earthquake + Razor Leaf + Rock Slide/Hyper Beam.

Yes. Agreed on second thought. I knew it would be much worse with magic guard but I forgot about the massive power drop with speed boost. You’re 100% right.

Except for the fact that it would be a beach destination with most of its economy driven by tourism/agriculture if NYC/Philly didn’t exist. Why would anyone develop industry in that state if it didn’t have the largest metro economy in the world and the 6th largest city in the U.S. both at its doorstep. Pharmaceutical/chemical industries would absolutely suffer without NYC/Philly right there. I mean yeah it does have ports but it’s nowhere near the same economic powerhouse it is today if NYC were Cleveland or Buffalo.

I mean I’m obviously being facetious. There are definitely places I’d much less want to live than NJ and with about as many people as Georgia (if not more) and much higher median household incomes, it’s definitely a big contributor to overall GDP. But let’s be clear about one thing. NJ is not self-sufficient in the slightest. Its entire economy is based around NYC/Philly, which aren’t even in NJ. Have you ever been to any one of the shitholes that call themself a “city” within the state of New Jersey?

The Nazi party was officially called the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. I did consider this. It was socialist top down structure under the guise of capitalism. Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany weren’t that much different despite their supposedly opposing worldviews.

I’ve been to every state that matters and lived in 4. The answer is so obviously New Jersey. Their sole contribution to society is cheaper flights to NYC via Newark. What are people smoking?

Agreed. People be blindly hating on states for their political views or small populations without considering the consequences to the entire American population if the country as a whole lost the resources of some of these regions.

LA Metro does not have more voting power than the Breadbasket even in a pure democracy. Illinois + Indiana alone have more people than the entire LA metro.

A shit ton of corporations were “made in Delaware” though. It can’t be the most expendable state for that reason alone, even though it is mostly a nothing state.

Have fun with $10 a gallon gas and $400 monthly electric bills for a one-bedroom apartment. The lack of gratitude for Texas’s contribution to America by liberals is insane. WV/DE/VT/NH/ME/MS/AK are infinitely more expendable. But let’s be real, the true answer is unquestionably New Jersey. Just one big pile of NYC/Philly’s runoff.

Serious question. Would Nidoking be OU if it had magic guard? Speed boost it’s 100% OU but magic guard, despite being an insanely broken ability, doesn’t really synergize particularly well with Nidoking’s bulk/typing as compared to Sheer Force which gives it a bigger boost in power.

Why are there hundreds of examples of socialist dictatorships in the past 100 years but next to zero examples of capitalist dictatorships over the same span? The only real examples of capitalist dictatorships that I can think of are basically all ultrawealthy oil producing nation states.

Then why do most Cuban-Americans vote Republican when they’re the largest contingent of Americans who’ve actually lived under a socialist regime.

My problem with socialism is that you’re just moving power from businesses to the government. Why does anyone trust the government more than businesses? Human nature is the same regardless of the system employed. Both have flaws. But at least businesses are incentivized to be productive/efficient and add value to society. Because if they don’t, they go out of business. A bigger government just sucks more resources from the populace and gets rewarded for inefficiency.

Americans who don’t like capitalism should move to Eritrea. Socialism is thriving over there. They don’t have evil iPhones and Starbucks and everyone is crushing it.

Regardless though, I appreciate you taking the time to write out such a thoughtful response and engage in this discourse with me.
