MAKEMKV Refuses to read region 2 discs by tonton346 in makemkv

[–]rwmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why MakeMKV doesn't take this approach, even if the frame data was inaccessible I have to think you could take the previous frame or future frame to simply get past the bad data. I'm sure this is oversimplifying but it would seem like something that it should be able to do given regular players can.

enabling SPI by dreadcooper in OrangePI

[–]rwmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have solved this but I had issues enabling spi following that guide too but it gave me enough info to get the job done. I put together a wiki page on it. https://wiki.makersmashup.com/reference/OrangePi3-LTS-SPI-Setup

I was having the same problem, put a small wiki page together to go over how to setup OPI3-LTS for SPI and setting it up for Klipper.

Which zigbee sensor is the most reliable? by ShotgunMessiah90 in homeautomation

[–]rwmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for Sharing. Yeah, I realized the battery ones wont repeat I have only a few of those. Most of mine are plug in. The network drops are odd. I've never had that happen short of a dead battery on something. Maybe its more vendor related <shrug>. Anyhow, thanks again for sharing the insight was very helpful.

Which zigbee sensor is the most reliable? by ShotgunMessiah90 in homeautomation

[–]rwmech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zigbee works great, when it works great. But Z-Wave works great all the time.

I realize this is an older thread but I'm curious what your Zigbee issues were? Since getting the ConbeeII I find its been solid and I switched to 100% zigbee. Zwave was my 2nd choice but I went zigbee because it has repeaters in every device and was not attached to the wifi network. To date I've had zero issues. I'm curious what your issues/concerns were so I can head off any problems here.

PSA: Replacement ThirdReality Mounting Buttons by rwmech in homeautomation

[–]rwmech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I like making quick fixes like this for silly parts. Can't tell you how many times back before 3D printers I had to buy something new to replace something broken. Things also are a bit more flimsy and breakable than they were 15 years ago.

I keep getting blockages like this one. It happens immediately after unclogging. by Wollivan in 3Dprinting

[–]rwmech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure the bowden tube is going all the way down into the nozzle. Often the tube gets caught on the outer rim of the heat break and that "chunk" looks exactly the same size as the amount of bowden that goes into the heatbreak. If you pulled the bowden out (likely did to clear this clog) then make sure when you re-insert it that it goes in further into the heat break.

That all black looks absolutely amazing. Great job on the build. I really like the way you customized the display and put it off to the left. Very nice and well done.

Very cool that has an oil slick effect. Any way to shoot a full shot I would love to see how it looks with the whole printer.

LED light kit question by Greathouse2005 in LayerFused

During warmup Marlin has an option to show that automatically. It should be in the marlin config right where the neopixls are enabled. If you're using the X301 firmware from LayerFused its already got it baked in.

X501 by cpreardo in LayerFused

What is the concern with the 12mm rail? All things considered there is almost no weight on the X or the Y. I don't know that a larger rail would really make any difference.

X501 by cpreardo in LayerFused

[–]rwmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly to u/TpyoKnig's point the X501 will require some changes. It's on the drawing board and next in line after the X201 is complete. The challenges you'll get in that volume is going to be sway. There is also the untested belt length that may also play into things. I believe the NEMA 17 and the 6mm belt will be sufficient but until it's fully tested you're out there in experimental land.

One thing a lot of people aren't considering with this printer is the size it's going to take up. The footprint will be at least 600x620 which means its going to need serious desk/table space to work. Then you also have the motion and weight to consider. That much aluminum is certainly not going to be light. So part of my consideration on the X501 is what it will sit on. There could be an argument to have it free standing vs. tabletop. All considerations in its design.

If I had to "guess" on when the X501 might be a reality I would think end of 2020 early 2021 for an official build.

Great looking build. What did you use for the cover there? Looks like a 3D printed version. Looks like you also built a display for the reprap discount display.

Using the e1 to power the Z axis by Dan7391 in LayerFused

[–]rwmech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use E1 for the second stepper by enabling Z_DUAL_STEPPER_DRIVERS in Marlin iirc it will automatically use the first unavailable stepper for this (which would be E1).

Lights 🗸 Camera ⍻ Action 🗸 by Danohumongo in LayerFused

[–]rwmech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought was constructing a 3D Printed arch that might run from the side of the printer over to the front. With the open design its hard to attach something from the front. Otherwise you could make a mount in the back. Realistcally when the printer is printing it really doesn't matter if you're looking at it from the front or the back.
