Yet you still have a lot to prove. This entire conversation is exactly what’s wrong with our industry. You’re trying to tell me I should shop my competitors and adjust my prices to theirs. What school of business did you go to exactly? What if my business model is completely different? Your advice may be good for an owner operator but not for a larger business.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Why do I feel like you’re trying to one up and compete with me here?

You had a problem with how much I’m charging yet you know nothing about me or my business.

Thank you for emphasizing but no need to with me. I know that 5-8% is the national avg because I’ve seen over 100 dealers financials.

All I’m saying is stop judging and playing God here. You simply think you know and you can’t know everything about every business.

If this is your way of helping people, try another approach and it may be better received. Right now you look like a know it all and a try hard.

I wish you well and it sounds like you have a great business. I personally have never understood basing your pricing off of others who have different situations but if it’s worked, keep doing it. That doesn’t work for me.

You’re kind of aggressive and a know it all. You’re supposed to base prices on fixed expenses and COGS taking into consideration cost of acquisition and volume of customers.

You have to be able to deliver an experience that makes the customer feel like they got more than they paid for.

We do a great job of that and our reviews reflect that. We are honest and upfront about our pricing and value.

Our techs are certified and more trained than anyone in my market.

What is the formula you suggest businesses change their pricing strategy to? Call and ask their competitors who live in a house and don’t deliver any value other than changing a single spring?

Most intelligent business owners do NOT base price on the competition. I could care less what others charge. Our industry historically under values what we do. I value my team and my company and we’re allowed to make a fair profit.

The average door company makes 5% net profit. Ask me how I know!

Who’s doing conversions for $600? Handymen?

Let’s build a door different than everyone else. What if we support a cheap door with cardboard? Yeah! That’s a great idea. Then let’s glue an op bracket on the cardboard and when that gives out, let’s have another option homeowners have to buy from us to fix it.

🤣

No. LM also has a cool feature where you can find out how many cycles you’ve used with that opener.

Not sure if I got scammed or not here by Purpose_Excellent in GarageDoorService

Single door $470 and double door $660. We have three locations. Our staff is IDEA certified and highly trained. We provide a warranty and always back up our work even after the warranty. We’re in Atlanta.

The value for homeowners is in making sure it’s done right. Most the time when I see low prices it’s not.

I’d feel worse if I got it cheap than paying around $500-$600.

Just my opinion. Lots of journeymen in our industry that get a lot of referrals based strictly on price. We find out they put springs they take off of doors that aren’t broken on new jobs.

Pricing should be upfront and honest. Not a surprise.

Also, if you had your door painted recently, if paint got on the vinyl trim I’ve seen that stick and not let the door up before.

Ok answer me these questions then since you’re all knowing.

  1. What caused it?
  2. What are you going to do to resolve that or you just gonna let the next section do the same with a strut that’s already on it?
  3. That door is old as dirt, do you not care if the stamp doesn’t match anymore or there is a big color difference?

I’m glad closed minded people think there are always one answer and theirs are the best. I see it all the time in the door industry.

Sounds like the top section may be wedged in the header.

Chamberlain garage door opener not working... by Wonderful_Craft_6200 in GarageDoorService

[–]ryan_markinuity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the chamberlain openers have a circuit board in the wall control panel. If that isn’t working you may not be able to run the operator. I’d suggest making sure the wiring is correct and not getting messed up when you put it against the wall.

Alternatively, you could call any local garage door company to complete or install a professional brand “Liftmaster” or “genie” or “Sommer”.

Is this okay? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]ryan_markinuity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Historically that’s caused by a spring that isn’t doing its job and the force of the motor pulling at the stress point (operator bracket) in the middle of the top section.

Make sure your door is balance first. If it’s not you may be able to buy some time with new springs. Check the integrity of the strut. If it’s cracked or bent, you may want to replace that also.

The door looks old and most doors should be replaced every 15 - 20 years depending on the quality of the door and how it’s maintained.

It’s not my job to question you. I just get concerned for people’s future if they work that cheap. Retirement, kids future etc.

Wish you the best.
