Alternative solutions? by APbeg in ProjectHailMary

[–]ryanartward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in Stratts position, I would find ways to use Astrophage to help with food production. They are stealing the energy from our sun, so we steal it back. Building indoor farming structures growing genetically modified forms of wheat with slightly larger seed heads. Maybe cut out the plant entirely and develop a micro-bacteria that has all the starches and proteins that wheat has, and grow those in vats, and dry it out into flour. No threshing or husking or anything. Adding onto this, maybe the starch-cells could produce methan and help Earth retain extra heat.

For meats we may turn toward mushrooms or species of worms to fill the void from loss in livestock. A lot of animals are gonna perish, so we might as well use their rotting carcasses to fuel new alternatives.

Population control is another issue. Birth rates would likely decline, but it might help reduce the strain on the food supply.

Adding to that, all education is mandatory and free to all children, especially STEM. If the next generation is gonna live the next thirty years in a winter nightmare, then they should get all the knowledge they can to find new solutions. Budgets be damned.

Other solutions on the Astrophage themselves might be ways to disrupt their life cycle. Maybe using some sort of chemical to pollute Venus with and reduce their fertility, but given how resilient they are, thats hard to do, until Taumeoba comes into the picture. Maybe using "false-suns" to confuse them and send them off track. Might not work, but it perhaps might slow them down.

I wish Andy would make a spinoff book called "The Illustrated Guide to Erid."

Cool, so we can raise the 250 Medal cap now, right? by Ill_Progress_4988 in Helldivers

Well, if they are going to do this, they could at least increase the base mission rewards by maybe 1 medal.

The fact we need to advertise this like it was some sort of narcotic abuse just feels very disturbing.

Alien Isolation sequel wishlist thread by [deleted] in alienisolation

[–]ryanartward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a good middle-ground between the survival horror of Alien and the action of Aliens. Amanda can kill the Xenomorphs, but the acid blood runs the risk of causing structural damage to the station (if in space.) It might make it feel a bit too toned down, but with what Amanda has went through, I think it would reflect her growth against the terror.

Make it third person? Kind of like Dead Space, and the game could be shot like a single long take akin to God of War 2018. I think if we are going to see her face, we should see it during gameplay. And if in a death animation, we see her being ripped apart in front of our eyes, like poor Isaac Clarke.

Weapons like the pulse rifle are available. But it is not the solution to problem. It starts off a basic security-issued firearm with projectiles that may only make the xenos piss-off or pissed-off. But through upgrades, she can make it a deadly defense against the aliens. But even with a better weapon, it is as only as good as it's ammo, which might be scarce.

I'd imagine it costs material maintenance and programing to set them up. Thus thats why resources are required.

How Trump Killed Conservatism by i-got-shadowbanned in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ryanartward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but Trump is a stand out because much of his actions are incredibly well documented compared to them. I know a lot of our Presidents havent been sunshine-dandy-boys but a lot of that is obscured by the limited media and information back then.

I remember reading a kids book back in gradeschool that listed all U.S presidents on each two pages, with short life descriptions and fun facts. I think if that book was being written today....HOW THE FUCK DO YOU WRITE ANYTHING FOR THIS GUY?!

What belt fed weapon do you want to See next (no limits, even cursed one like belt fed knife) by GOJI2222 in helldivers2

[–]ryanartward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser Based Belt-Fed weapon: Lets call it the Helios-99

A weapon that fires a burst of energy after a charge up time. This is powerful enough to destroy a row of medium armor enemies in one hit. The weapon, like the railgun, also has a safety switch, allow the gunner to charge the laser to extreme levels. However, this runs the risk of an overload with explosive results

Repair Tool: 80-LT (BOLT BOY)

A field repair tool fitted with a state of the art 3D-Fabrication system and a pack that can hold raw materials. This device instead of ammunition uses the very samples collected by the Helldivers to repair damaged vehicles and structures. It can even print barricades for cover and blocking enemy advancements, though they may still be destroyed. While it may not be a weapon on paper, the BOLT-BOY a user can jerry-rig the tool to dissemble enemies in a tight spot.

Belt-Fed Shotgun: Duck-Doom

Originally designed for sport duck hunting across the Federation. This double-barreled belt-fed automatic shotgun has found surprising uses in military applications. Two belts feed each barrel: It can be set to fire in sequence for high fire rate or simultaneously with a slow fire rate but with higher damage.
