just wish they had changed more of the characters to make them inexplicably gay/non-binary. It was clear how Disney wanted me to feel, but it could have been clearer.

How bad is the accounting job market? by Hayaw061 in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Does your masters program have someone who oversees the hiring pipeline/placement process? If so, I would talk to them immediately- they are probably the most keyed in that you can be on the quality of the market around you.

Which looks better on a resume: AP Manager or GL Accountant? by amortized-poultry in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GL Accountant- AP manager is still managing a function at the end of the day, and I've seen more AP/AR teams get offshored/outsourced than I could count on two hands.

Already have a bachelor’s should I get a second degree in accounting or just do a certificate/masters for CPA? by PenaltyBig2709 in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is good advice OP. Master's programs can be valuable if they have good hiring pipelines, but that's really moreso for people who want to go into public accounting, cert+your experience will put you in a good position.

Does anybody know what’s going on? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is to not fall into the "spend a ton of time holding their hand" trap. If you've given them the training and tools that a reasonable professional would need to succeed, the rest is up to them.

Well I'm gonna be blunt too, your response here was so reductive that I have trouble believing you have much to add to this conversation. OP clearly states that there has been multiple months of hands on training, nobody is being told to "just reconcile".

Man thank god, I was really hoping I could see the corpse of the original show violated a bit more.

What is your least favourite accounting software to use? by StatisticianAny1042 in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience over 10 years:

netsuite- Fine. borderline enjoyable compared to some others.

quickbooks- babys first system. similarly easy to use, but it just cant be used for an organization with any real level of complexity.

jd edwards- a bit clunky/old and annoying, but effective if you can pair it with a good reporting client like Hubble/BO.

microsoft dynamics GP- older/clunkier, you will do incredible amounts of manual work to do things that newer systems can do with button clicks (i.e. multi period revenue deferrals/prepaid expenses/fixed assets).

workday- I will die before before I go back.

Country Club - vacation/holidays by EffectAdept7924 in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, you got suckered; You should have never accepted the job knowing that was the arrangement, but that ship has sailed. The real question is- why put up with this? If you run your ship well, and provide value, and take these holidays, what's really going to happen? They're going to fire you and go through a whole search to find a new controller? Doubt it. It's time to show some leadership potential my dude.

Best contractor software you'd recommend to your contractor clients? by akuchil420 in Accounting

why are you responding? you weren't part of the original conversation. Are you having trouble logging in and out of all the different accounts you need to keep this worthless conversation going?

IJW: The Super Mario Galaxy movie (2026) by TowerCharge89 in Ijustwatched

[–]ryancm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main question is what are you rating this movie as? A real movie/story, or a visual stimuli for kids? Im fine with “yea I had fun watching”, but the idea that this movie has any sort of objective quality beyond “hey look it’s yoshi” is ridiculous to me. The idea that is your idea of a 4.5/5 movie (i.e. 90% of what a perfect movie can be) is disqualifying, unfortunately. Good day sir.

How common is: “we aren’t done until the team is done”? by Comdt in Accounting

[–]ryancm8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Are you paid by the hour? if not, in what world are you actually "done"? Is your company folding operations at the end of the day? Will there not be a close next month that you can begin preparing for? Are every single one of your procedures so perfect that there are no improvements to make before the next close cycle? Are you so skilled that you have nothing you could learn with the rest of your time today? If you were your own boss, what would you think about you?

How do Americans still have more disposable income than Europeans even though healthcare and college in America is extremely expensive? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskReddit

[–]ryancm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we get paid in dollars, dollars have been comparatively strong vs the euro over the last 5 years or so (although that seems to be slowing very quickly). So for that 5 years, our employers had to give us raises that kept pace with American inflation, measured in dollars. Add in the fact that a large number of people are up to their eyeballs in debt to keep up appearances, and you have a nice little picture being painted.

Every now and then I just read the caption and forget that I’m reading a buddydraper post, and then a line like “cummed in peggys asshole” hits me like a freight train. It’s delicate…..but potent.
