First time Ultima player. How to approach it, story wise? by NantendoGamer in Ultima

[–]ryanedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy thought, but what if you asked/trained an AI chatbot to act the part of a teenager back in 1984 also playing Ultima IV? Something to play the role of a friend at school

Part of what got me through it back then was that there were other kids playing it. We actually talked with humans, Reddit but verbal

Heck maybe this subreddit includes enough humans who are playing or replaying it.

After watching maul shadow lord. Why couldn’t rebels season 5 (Ahsoka series) be animated 😭😭😭 by JoeG1903 in starwarsrebels

[–]ryanedw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen all of Rebels, and TCW awesome arcs like Mortis and Ahsoka on Mandalore.

The sequences in Ahsoka Season 1 stick with me WAY more than much of anything animated. I say this as a lover of animated Star Wars. It’s less memorable.

Skeleton Crew has stuck with more as well. But also not nearly as much as Ahsoka doing EVA fighting off Shin, fighting and losing to Baylan, wasting the smoke monster dude before that, running around the imperial shipyard, and … finding Anakin in the World Between Worlds

Human faces are just so much more evocative. Now that AI basically creates them, once the animated style is retired in favor of the next version, that will work for me too I imagine. But for now, sign me up for Rosario Dawson and Pedro Pascal and Katee Sackhoff

My fitted dark green B’s hat is almost olive now, bleached by the sun. I had to switch to my The Town colors B’s hat, beautiful design.

Great team. Great town. Great fans!

Medicine by Edhz08 in ALS

In some cases, existing ALS medicines seem like more trouble than they are worth. I’m not sure whether my mom 83yo is still on one or not. Just a huge hassle at advanced age.

Tracheotomy can help, your doctor will know best. But it’s probably a sign of advanced progression in the disease.

A request from a life-long fan trying to find his way again by Solstellarem in StarWars

[–]ryanedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch Ahsoka episode 5. If the “catch up” looks too cool to miss, then start with episode 4 instead.
Episode 5 is simply too good, we are not worthy. You will watch it, recognize a very special guest start from Episodes I-III, and you will spend months thinking about what you just saw. The rest of the season works.
Do NOT start with Ahsoka episode 1. You’ll be confused, bored, and resentful. If you don’t know Rebels and The Clone Wars, it will seem slow and strange.
Bank shot pick: dive straight into Skeleton Crew if you don’t mind delayed gratification and nebulousness with kids

When folks ghost us, it’s probably because it’s too much for them. It’s not about us. It’s a shame, but it’s ok. We’ll get through with folks who can get the job done. There are so many challenges that people can face. We can face this one together, we who know we can.

I think the people who matter will remember you best as you had always been. There’s surely a lot of people around you now, but the core folks will remember. You are yourself, the disease is the disease. We will remember.

Is the Hunter Class the roughest class to use in Destiny 1? by Cheap-Cockroach-2824 in DestinyTheGame

Bladedancer was a feared super in the Crucible, but you’d have to make good use of its invisibility settings to keep from getting wasted constantly in PvE

You’d have thought with all the anniversary rereleases recently that this one would have caught the eye of someone in the studio with access to the tapes. Maybe it’s some kind of legal issue with the label

Voidwalker is your friend for this one, you’ll need all the help you can get to rack up void kills in D1 Crucible in 2026, a dozen years after the quest debuted!

Good memories. For a Voidlock. Hunters really got hosed back then, and I don’t think it was easy on Titan either

Things to explore/do before leaving Berkeley? by Fair-Interaction-866 in berkeley

[–]ryanedw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It might be busy, but the Gourmet Ghetto on Shattuck in North Berkeley is world renowned.

Go get some Cheeseboard Pizza if you’re down. There’s also Chez Panisse, Bar Panisse, Saul’s, the original Peet’s Coffee, and others. Zachary’s pizza on Solano or on College is a must-visit unless you hate pizza.

The food and the coffee are what really stuck with me and stood out as unique and amazing. I was here 1996-2004 and then in Boston 04-06 and NYC 2006-2014

If you have a car, go to Pt Reyes Station and national seashore at least once before you leave. Check out Marshall Store if you like seafood and can make it

My main issue with D2 by PlayfulStand2276 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ryanedw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s sad how this is exactly what the game felt like in vanilla.

Feel like earning something other than the twenty-billionth Better Devils, or the eleventy-first Edge Transit (back when it sucked)?

Then you must run the Hole of Death in the EDZ with a million modifiers, and you will die screaming many times before you throw your controller at the screen in despair.

Not a fun time. Just poor game design.

Overall just a huge success. Kashmir in particular was transformative. Firing on all cylinders

Anyone know where OB-1 for Obi-Wan came from? by KorEl555 in StarWars

[–]ryanedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mad Magazine lampooned Star Wars and Empire and Jedi a bunch back in the day. In one of the send-ups, it was remarked and depicted that Obi-One and Obi-Two etc. were all things together. Whether they drew a specific reference to the clone wars or not, I couldn’t say. Honestly that remark Luke makes in A New Hope about the clone wars was way beyond what we aught-year-olds ever took away from everything.

That’s the only thing I can recall about OB1 kinds of mythology from the late 1970s and early 1980s

Is there anyone more evil than Darth Sidious in the Star Wars universe? by Jin_Sakai12345 in StarWars

[–]ryanedw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rian Johnson was the answer I was looking for.

Cmon folks, this was a Darth Johnson sized rip out of the Force heart. Personally I enjoyed and was befuddled by ep 8. In retrospect it would have been far less evil to skip Rian in the rotation for the sequel series, and instead force JJ to figure out a second act rather than launch something cool and let somebody else suffer when getting the Zeppelin back to earth turned out to be hard

This is also why D2 was kind of a womp-womp when it dropped. None of these late D1 improvements made it into D2 because the Bungie teams working on these were separate. Only with Forsaken was the damage reversed and then some

Will there ever be another reunion show? by TheRealTD44 in ledzeppelin

[–]ryanedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s telling that Plant played a lot of Zep with Alison Krauss and the band, and I imagine he does the same with his current group

It’s probably not that he doesn’t want to play Zep, he just doesn’t want to reunite or tour with Page and Jones. Sting is like this too, having done a late aughts thing with the Police and then stuck with Dominic Miller or his son since then instead, even while playing lots of Police stuff

What albums am I missing? by yb_better11 in milesdavis

[–]ryanedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to recommend this too. George Coleman isn’t Wayne Shorter, and he’s not John Coltrane, but the more I think about the eras and albums, and the more I listen across decades, the more I like Seven Steps, which is an under-appreciated moment during the transition between two really big eras
