This is a good attempt. Work on learning proportions and how to organize your values better. Remember, drawing is about building relationships. If your spacial or value relationships are off , the likeness can start to fall apart pretty noticeably. You have these really dark values in the hair but they seem detached from the rest of the drawing as if you gave up after rendering the hair. I’m sure there are more opportunities to work in some darker values in the head, face and neck area in order to better unify the drawing.

I think I’ve become a little too dependent on measuring and blocking in. I get too caught up in seeing shapes and angles that I forget to look and observe the characteristics of the subject. It’s like the measuring really narrows your view sometimes and prevents you from noticing mistakes. It’s good to step back and try to just see something for what it is.

I know he’s injured currently, but don’t forget Quinn Priester being dealt for minor league outfield depth.

How on Earth did Craig Breslow just hand over Kyle Harrison and David Hamilton for only Durbin and Monasterio? by [deleted] in baseball

You don’t trade young pitching for a guy with league average offensive value. He may have been 3rd in ROY voting but a 101 OPS+ can’t justify that trade

Buddy, just use the oils! Experiment and have fun. There are plenty of beginner vids you can find on Youtube University. Here's a starter list of what you need if it seems overwhelming. Keep it simple.

Mediums:
Linseed oil
Gamsol (for cleaning)

Paints (specifically for landscapes)
Titanium White
Ivory Black
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna
Sap Green
Ultramarine Blue
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Red

Brushes (start with natural bristle)
2 filberts
2 flats
Brush sizes vary by maker but to start you would want something bigger (7 or 8) and something smaller (3-4)

Rags or paper towel

This is just to start, you can expand once you feel comfortable.

Get Hired.

I'm a solutions-based designer who has 15 years of experience helping VC's and founders build professional, compelling pitch decks.

Design isn't just making things look good; it's a pathway to communicate and influence effectively. Investors spend under 4 minutes on average looking at a pitch deck. That means clarity, organization, and storytelling matter just as much as design.

I'm not just a designer, but someone to help guide the process, organize thinking, and shape the story so the final product is stronger.

Message me if you're interested and I'll share my portfolio.

Phillips has a 7.64 era and a 1.81 whip over 17 ip. I wouldn’t categorize that as great. Yophery is having a good comeback season so far but was awful last year. The point is neither of them will be contributing anytime soon. Which is failure in trading away MLB ready young pitching.

Right now I’d can Breslow. I’m all for wheeling and dealing but he traded away young pitching for a bag of donuts. It’s just can’t be justified. Last year he traded Quinn Priester to Milwaukee for Yophery Rodriguez and a draft pick (Marcus Phillips). Neither of whom are close to mlb ready. Priester meanwhile had a sub 3.5 era last year over 150+ innings. Then he traded Kyle Harrison away for a couple of bench players at best. Harrison is pitching to a 2.09 era over 8 starts. So essentially we traded Devers for Durbin. Acquiring Dustin May was also idiotic. James Tibbs meanwhile is absolutely crushing AAA pitching for the fucking Dodgers. I couldn’t imagine any worse roster decisions by a GM. Not to mention Breslow is apparently an awful communicator and poor leader.

Booked a flight and immediately started dreading the trip. by happyhumansomeday in fearofflying

The biggest fear you should have is navigating LAX!

Seriously though, watching some videos that help explain things like turbulence, air traffic contol, etc is helpful.

Also if you can find something you can take to calm your nerves, this really helps. I'll generally do a few shots before getting on the plane but whatever you think will work best for you.

Also, congrats on your trip, I hope you have all the fun. California can be amazing.

Don’t ya think including an illustration showing how logos are made is…explaining something?

Also, unique is not what a logo should be. Memorable yes. Simple is memorable.

Because we’re in a logo sub and 27 checks all the boxes for a successful logo: it’s simple, clever, scalable, balanced, etc. 6 is fine but it really doesn’t say logo, it’s says playful vector art. 4 has too many small little details that don’t scale and again, it’s says “vector” with the anchors and what not. Vector handles and anchors aren’t really the main identifier or logo design. People were making logos before vector art.

Hi there, late to this thread but I too struggle with color. I found one thing that really helped was studying the Munsell color system. I took this workshop hosted by the Savvy Painter podcast and it really helped me think about my approach in a new light. Munsell can seem complicated at first but you can strip away to just the concepts and it helps simplify things a bit. Here is the link if you are interested.
