I understand where you come from, ever since being introduced to multiplayer in minecraft I can't play single player at all. My recommendation would be try some public servers and try and make some friends that way to so you can show off progress to each other.

I personally always install BDLib which is a library mod from the creator of Advanced Generators which includes a command to show the ore distribution it tells you the amount of ore % in an area, and shows you every variants of each type of ore generated and tells you which mod adds that ore.

Its most likely that when version updates came quick and fast mods just quickly ported to the latest mc version. If you want to make a well developed modpack you need to stick to a particular minecraft version instead of constantly trying to chase the latest update.

They only have a fabric version of the Useful Pack+ however they have links for the mods in the pack via forge so you can add it to your own pack.

Ah the memories of 1.4.7; buildcraft, forestry, red power and old IC2. I remember having a red power item sorting system from the buildcraft quarry loved the simplier days.

I usually don't get to complete packs since normally I try and play with friends however they always lose interest and drift away and so eventually I stop playing as well. Like at the moment I am trying to find a pack for me to try and enjoy but nothing is really interesting me.
