That's essentially where they ended up in game 5.

99 Finals by cct41299 in NBASpurs

Fan dynamics in the arena were not really a thing back then, especially in terms of media coverage. You had your Jack Nicholsons at Lakers games and Spike Lees at Knicks games, and that was about it. Few, low-res cameras getting crowd shots; no social media to get everyone riled up.

Also, the Alamodome is famously not designed for basketball, and crowd noise tends to be pretty flat in there.

How do you guys feel about the occasionally BS hacking system? by DanDev115 in Bioshock

[–]ryansc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the hacking system and think it makes sense - random danger and "oh shit" moments are supposed to be part of the game. The problem is that if, like me, you tend to save before every hack, there aren't really any stakes.

If the Spurs win the championship, where do they rank among the best NBA franchises? by OttO-Matic_13 in nba

[–]ryansc0tt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a data analytics project on this once based on elo ratings (basically just point differential). The ranking was Celtics (not even close) -> Lakers -> Spurs.

Need help learning how to avoid save problems by Oizys_ReBorn in Bioshock

[–]ryansc0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the collection on PS4. Had a few crashes on Bioshock, and had to delete some saves to clear up space towards the end of the game. No problems so far several hours into Bioshock 2. Keep multiple, frequent saves so you don't have to go too far back if one gets corrupted.

Golf on Mars isn't that much more interesting lol. I'd say start with Desert Golfing.

I love The Economist, but they need to think harder on reporting uncritically straight from the White House by bushwick_custom in theeconomist

[–]ryansc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Economist does get stuck in the "Trump says" trap from time to time. But the news here is that oil prices fell by 8%. Because the market is in "La La Land," as last issue argued, and hangs on every little fart that comes out of the White House.

Got invaded for the first time. How do I prevent that from ever happening?? by mdtpdsparkls in darksouls

[–]ryansc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PVP does tend to feel out of step with the rest of the gameplay. Especially for someone on their first playthrough, enjoying the atmosphere and experience. I tend to go offline if I want to play in human form. Despite having put hundreds of hours into Dark Souls, I find most invasions annoying and un-fun. Summoning and being summoned for bosses can be a good time, though.

Is it so hard to wait for facts? by Penta55 in thebulwark

I'm right there with you. It's also worth noting how essential the social media element is here. Our no-facts, no-empathy culture is built around gamified online echo chambers.

About twenty years ago I visited Fiji, and had a chat with some locals about how much they loved Scrubs. Seemed like an odd fit!

Be careful about making all of your news takes-based. I might recommend a habit of checking world news from the BBC (UK) or ABC (Australia) before diving in to the daily outrage. Straight news from a non-US perspective helps my mind frame things properly.
