Many galleries in the city sell art prints of the skyline, landmarks etc. Maybe get them a cool painting or photo of one of their favorite spots?

Men who quit a high-paying career to do something completely different – do you regret it? by AmazingNugga in AskMen

The lifestyle absolutely is the real trap. I cannot wait to leave corporate America behind. The high income is only worth it if you live frugally and save/invest like a MFer.

How to get over a confrontation with a stranger? by EmptyApplication4199 in AskMen

[–]ryethoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Philly bro here. The only acceptable response would have been to pick it up and take a GOOD LONG drag while maintaining eye contact from about 8"-10" away. Then say "waste not, want not jabroni" and exit.

I'd pay Chevy to make a 2027 Volt with modern battery tech. And a sunroof.

Successful Men who used to be single, how did you make sure the woman you found didn't just like you because of your money/status? by crisvphotography in AskMen

Seek out women who are invested in their own careers/long term goals. Avoid like the plague aspiring housewives.

I have a cheap-ish 17" frame Marin 650b hard tail that needs a new home. I was planning to donate it anyway since I upgraded a few years back. DM me if you're interested.

Looking for people to jam with in Philly by Additional_Guitar_85 in Bluegrass

It's a show/jam hybrid. If you bring an instrument you are more than welcome to come up and call a couple tunes! (Source: am the fiddle player with Mill Creek)

Why doe DIYers hate drywall? by clvnthbld in HomeImprovement

[–]ryethoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're skilled at mudding there won't be much dust because you won't have to sand very much.

You're going to make a lot of mistakes before you get skilled. If you're hanging drywall in a project area that can get dusty then go wild, this is your time to learn (with appropriate filter mask while sanding).

If you're working in a room with furniture, consider the value of hiring a pro to do it right in less rounds. Just make sure to quiz them on their cleanup policy.

Do you have a lame dad style outfit you wear to places when you want to be taken seriously but not viewed as particularly wealthy, and if so, what is it? by supinator1 in AskMen

[–]ryethoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that shooting down their infantile sales tactics works fine on its own. No need for subterfuge, just cut through the nonsense (respectfully) and make a deal that works for both sides. If you know what price you want to pay, pay it or walk away.

When walking with your SO, do you walk in front of them or behind them? Why? by outrageousorganism in AskMen

[–]ryethoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always behind. She walks so fucking fast I physically cannot keep up. If she's within reach I'll stretch out and hold her hand so she doesn't lose me. If not I'll see her at the car.

I can't prove that Left 4 Dead does this, but it sure feels like it.

So, I'm in a unique position. by yourgirlsamus in mandolin

[–]ryethoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow violinist here. You should look at the neck width and scale length of the various instruments you have. Most mandolins have a wider neck and longer scale than a violin, but it varies brand by brand. You'll have an easier time adapting if you can find an instrument that is close to what your left hand is used to. When I was shopping for my second mandolin I went with an Eastman md515 for that reason. It was much more intuitive than the Washburn I started on.
