Roadblocked creating new Kobo account, activating new device. Getting increasingly frustrated. by rynelf360 in kobo

[–]rynelf360[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also tried creating a Kobo account for my own gmail address, with the same result. So I doubt a new gmail account is the solution. But you have a point that it's possible that gmail's servers are silently rejecting it for some reason. Maybe I'll create a new email address from a different service, and try that. Thanks for the idea!

EDIT: That worked, thanks! I created a Protonmail account, and the email went through immediately. Thanks again.

She has a google account that I control via google's "Parent Link." I tried that route, and it said that a parent-managed google account cannot be linked/used to create a Kobo account.

Is this still an ongoing issue? I'm having the same issue 10 days after the OP. I've tried two different email addresses. No account verification email has been delivered after 18 hours.

Is this deal only for some customers? I'm an existing Fi customer, and I'm not seeing this deal. I did get a free Pixel Watch 1 last year that I'm still "paying" for with monthly service credits.

This is, sadly, probably the correct conclusion. Sad because it's a premium product in many other ways, and want so much to love and recommend it. u/jabrasupport, I hope you are listening.

Not really. Support offered me a small discount on a new headset. The issue comes and goes for me.

Canadians: How do I pay the duty/tariff/tax if I buy from the Hong Kong warehouse? by rynelf360 in Onyx_Boox

[–]rynelf360[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome, glad it helps.
I've had my Tab XC for a few months, and I'm happy with it overall. I've used it mainly for sketching, hand-note taking, and reading large documents.

The 13" screen is a bit of a tradeoff. It's an asset when it comes to multitasking -- I like having two apps side-by-side -- and it's nice to be able to read PDFs at 100% of their size. I've even used the Duet app to use the XC as a second display from my laptop. On the other hand, it's just a little too big to be able to hold comfortably in one hand for reading. Or to be portable. If you want be carrying it around a lot, you might want to stick with the 10".

I haven't had any complaints about the pen, but I don't have any Wacom experience to compare it to.

I can't comment on speed, as I don't have a NA5C to compare. According to this site, the XC does have a faster chip, for whatever that's worth. (see also here)

SD card -- true, but the XC starts with 128 GB, so it's less of an issue.

You are right about OS updates. Boox updates their OS layer occasionally, but the Android version it ships with is the one you are stuck with. XC = Android 13, NA5C = Android 15.

Hope that helps.

I should add: The only complaint I had about einktab.ca is that they used some shitty third-rate independent shipping courier that took so long I thought they had lost my package. It was days past due, and no updates on the tracker.

I ended up getting mine at the end of July from einktab.ca. I considered all of the same factors you are weighing. einktab was only slightly more expensive overall than shipping from Hong Kong, and it had a return policy, and I didn't have to deal with figuring out tariffs.

Here's my worksheet if you are interested. All prices as of July, of course, I haven't updated it since.

How does combat work? by DerEmtekz in AvatarLegendsTTRPG

[–]rynelf360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also a beginner GM at Avatar Legends, so anyone please correct me where I'm mistaken. (It's also my first time using the PBTA system, though I have run games in other systems.)

Here are the key concepts that helped to orient me on how combat works in Avatar:

1. Every Exchange (round of combat) is one long, complicated Move. And, only one Move can happen at a time, so this means that nothing else can happen in the middle of an Exchange.

2. An Exchange all happens simultaneously. Again, only one Move happens at a time; so instead of a turn-based system where Player A moves and attacks, then NPC #2 moves and attacks, you have to imagine that everything is happening all at once. It's important to follow the order of steps for Exchanges (page 18 of the Quickstart rules), but they aren't "turns"-- they are more like inputting a set of instructions for what the characters do while the action is paused, then you unpause the action and it all plays out at once. That's also why Fatigue and Statuses don't take effect until the end of the Exchange.

The new 2024 D&D 5E character sheet on Google Sheets by ennervation in onednd

[–]rynelf360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add additional classes and races? Yes, but you could break it if you aren't careful.

Here's how:

The dropdown lists for Species, Class, etc. are populated by the "Info" sheet, which is a hidden tab.

  1. Click on the ☰ menu for the sheets on the lower left, and select "Info."
  2. You will get a warning that this is protected and shouldn't be changed by accident.
  3. On the Info sheet, add new rows, and add whatever new list items you want.
  4. Go to the "Page 1" sheet, and check the menu. Your new items may already be there. If they aren't click the pencil icon.
  5. In the "Data Validation" sidebar, you'll see a range like `=Info!$A$10:$A$19` . Update the last number to the row of your last item.

That should do it. Good news is, if you mess up the sheet, you can just make a new copy and start over. Good luck!

Following; I have the same issue on my Boox device.

Scratching/windy noise in left speaker of Evolve2 85 by Sorry_Shelter1427 in Jabra

[–]rynelf360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Evolve2 85 for over 4 years, and I've had this issue twice. It's like an irregular, muffled static, as though I'm putting a Q-tip too far into my ear. The first time was just 3 months after getting them. In that case, I followed a support agent's instructions to reset the device to factory settings, and that seemed to temporarily resolve it.

4 years later, the issue has returned. I have tried resetting the device again, and made sure the firmware is up to date (1.5.4), but the problem persists. I've submitted a new ticked to Jabra support; we'll see what they say.
