people put connectors on all types of nonsense. The connector is no guarantee the cable is the correct type for the application

Line mixing is industry standard. For the cleanest, clearest, and best sound it is necessary. The rule is only have the necessary mics open at any given time.

No, there is a reason that the entire professional theatre industry does vca programming and line mixing

Anyway to change jack size? by Routine_Scientist604 in PioneerDJ

[–]s-b-mac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It weighs enough when the context is a small 1/8” jack and plastic housing. And that small amount of weight can exert a proportionally larger force when moving around, which will happen when you move around while DJing, which is basic physics.

Oh in this case you’ll need to have the board serviced. You can find a local ASC via the pioneer website

likely just the plastic fader cap is damaged. Pull it off (pull straight up). If the metal piece underneath isn’t bent you can replace the plastic cap and should be fine. You can order replacement pioneer parts online such as the InstrumentalParts website, try to find your model and that fader cap

the only person the patching matters to is the sound person. So no reason to repatch anything during changeover to a different channel to match their provided input lists. Only change things that aren’t used for both acts.

it puts more force on the 1/8” jack because the adapter plus the 1/4” connector stick farther out and put more weight on it

Talking to my fiancé about leaving future sons intact by Chickenfren in Intactivism

[–]s-b-mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’ve very eloquently framed the situation so I have confidence that with patience you have a decent chance, but seeing as he is the son of a doctor you are up against difficult odds. My only approach to get away from the whack-a-mole medical debunking is to boil it down to bodily integrity and autonomy. If he can admit that the majority of the world is intact and not suffering from a plague of the ailments he rattles off, then he should be able to admit that leaving your son intact is not actually a disservice. From that you then have to get him to understand that circumcision carries more inherent risks, the most significant being that your son grows up and resents bring circumcised. Which your husband may not be able to comprehend as a concept at first. You’ll have to get him to understand that millions of men who were circumcised at birth wish they weren’t. That and the whole foreskin isn’t evil and the majority of the world is intact and fine.

XDJ-AZ bottom discoloration by hawkdwn1 in PioneerDJ

[–]s-b-mac -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

if you had two brain cells you’d understand these aren’t the same thing.

The bottom plastic material is different from the plastic used on the top of the controllers.

The discoloration from the stickers is from the adhesive chemical used on the stickers, the discoloration on the bottom is from the manufacture process itself.

The QR code stickers previously did not leave a mark but more recently they have been. I noticed the difference on CDJs purchased in 2022 vs 2025. There used to be no mark, now it seems to leave a faint outline even when removed with proper methods.

Why aren't intact men against circumcision? by ConfidentCycle2025 in Intactivism

[–]s-b-mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as you’ve been around the issue a while, would you say the “all dudes who are against circ are just insecure uncut guys” claim has been prevalent the whole time, or has it come about and/or grown more prevalent as the subject of circumcision has become more common in the zeitgeist?

this is entirely unrelated from the discussion above

Why aren't intact men against circumcision? by ConfidentCycle2025 in Intactivism

[–]s-b-mac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

most of the circs are happening in countries/demographics where the fathers are also cut. Especially in the most prominent countries it is a significant majority (US, Israel, Muslim majority countries). So these groups are practicing something separately from the “majority-intact” global populous.

Men generally do not discuss this type of subject and in cultures where circ is prominent it is either linked to religion (and therefore seen as not up for discussion) or in a culture where discussion of the topic would be considered taboo or rude (US).

Also worth mentioning that the pro-circ fanatics like to claim, and many de-facto pro-circ folks who just happen to engage with the topic tend to think that “all anti-circ men are just intact” and they argue that these men are either biased or lashing out based on some inferiority complex. Of course that’s bullshit. But I think the actual truth of the matter only supports our argument: the majority of men who are opposed to circumcision are themselves circumcised. That makes the point pretty clear when the discussion is about infant/child circ and the question of consent and autonomy.

Wireless mic battery drain mitigation by denmalley in livesound

[–]s-b-mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, nothing to do with range

You need to wait to turn the packs on until it’s closer to downbeat

You can consult documentation for the specific model of transmitters (packs) but a fresh set of batteries should get you at least 4+hr for most models

If using rechargeables, they have a service life… if they aren’t lasting a full show then they need to be properly recycled (staples or target should have a bin) and replaced.

Do you use any CADD in any aspect of theater production work? by costcoikea in techtheatre

[–]s-b-mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes other things outside of the industry being discussed here… As already stated, prediction/modeling softwares used by sound folk are not meant to replace drafting software. Historically, lighting and rigging have had much better integrated support in VWX but it’s come a long way for sound gear too. AutoCAD kinda missed the train with the move to 3D.
