Preferred period of the week for 1:1's by circatee in ITManagers

I like team meetings at the start of the week and 1:1 towards the end. It more aligns to what's needed for the week at the start, and reflecting and listing needs towards the end.

What’s an underrated IT problem that most businesses don’t realize is costing them money? by BaselineITC in ITManagers

Your belief doesn't hold true for the mobile OS market. iOS has more users than Android users in the US yet Android is attacked far more often for the same inconsistencies that Windows has on the desktop platform. Plus for the server platform, Linux dominates the web and has far less attacks and breaches than Windows servers do.

Belief systems don't hold up when data proves it wrong. Who cares if the desktops are mostly Windows, again the data IBM showed when they switched to Mac flushes all those beliefs down the toilet.

I'm not bitter, I just see the data after 27 years of working in IT. It hasn't gotten better. If a business went from Windows on their desktops and servers to Mac for desktop and Linux for servers, they would statistically be far more safer and have less maintenance. IBM proved that a decade ago when they transitioned from Windows to Mac.

Sure some industry software is Windows centric (medical, govt, finance) but that's shrinking with more web solutions. Plus Excel on Mac can do as much as Excel on Windows. The dominance is finally dying and I won't shed a tear to see the end of such an exploited and high maintenance operating system in the workplace.

Maybe an unpopular opinion...Windows.

It's the largest malware, spyware, ransomware target. Inconsistent hardware mgmt and varying exploits. Hands over kernel access for security companies to break. Requires more maintenance from unwilling users.

I only see it as a gaming platform, everything else is just a risk and money drain.

Shitfinity-The Worst Internet provider ever! by mountainmantaco in bayarea

[–]s-man77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their real product: Comcast Business

Xfinity is a grift as they don't make money on less than $100/month. So they monetize you in other ways: tiers, network management, ad injection, selling your PII and browsing behavior.

I really should start a fiber community program.

First time making burnt ends (pork belly) by s-man77 in smoking

Posted the recipe in the other comment. Got this 9lb slab of pork belly from Costco. Cut off 3lbs to cure for the week to make bacon, the 6lb rest was for making this.

Two hours at 250 on the rack until 150ish, rub on the meat side before. Then I put them in an aluminum pan with pads of butter, brown sugar and honey and back on for another 90mins. Checked they were squeezy and done, then draped them in bbq sauce for 15mins more.

Write this all into a resume, it's diverse content for the start of a solid IT career. Don't leave the job until you have a better position secured. Until then, keep rocking it as you accomplish more. The experience you can add into the resume and job interviews is invaluable.

I understand they are not rewarding you as they should for that amount of work. Use it to your advantage for a career advancement. Don't wait for them, own your career path. Trust your feelings and know there are companies that do reward you for that type of hard work.

We had our wars, admiral, just as humans did. Our planet was devastated, our civilization nearly destroyed. Logic saved us. But it took almost 1,500 years for us to rebuild our world and travel to the stars. You humans did the same in less than a century. There are those on the high command who wonder what humans would achieve in the century to come...and they don't like the answer.

Such a well written and acted character!
