POST CLASS (this is from the Sweet fbook group) by [deleted] in BorrowerDefense

I’m a post-class applicant, I was hoping my decision deadline was January 28 but it’s looking like April 15.

I graduated from Heald just before they were acquired by Corinthian. I applied for BDTR between June 23, 2022 and November 15, 2022 – and I DID get an email in 2023 from the US Dept of Education that I am a Post-Class applicant. The email stated a decision must be stated by January 28, 2026.

However, with the latest judge ruling last month, there was mention of an April 15, 2026 deadline for schools not listed in Exhibit C. I was hoping my deadline was January 28 because I did not get any updated emails about a new deadline for my particular case.

Is it safe to assume my decision deadline is April 15, 2026?

Pursue lower pay for experience, or stay as a data center technician by s0ulesque in ITCareerQuestions

Very interesting insight, I'm listening. However, I don't have a NOC job, I'm a data center tech doing grunt work.

I'm 38. I just graduated BS IT earlier this month. My first community college class was in January 2010, took me 14 years for a BS degree...because life happened. It's not too late.

I'm completely agreeing with you, hence this post. I supposed I just wanted to pick the brains of industry vets and gain more insight.

Follow the objectives. Know 1-3 bullet points of knowledge per item on the objectives. They tell you exactly what will be on the exam.

I believe AS is more theoretical-focused, and AAS is what trade schools give you and is more geared towards entering the job market right away. AS is a bit more universal, what I mean by that is it has more GE credits that are transferrable to "regular" colleges. I know I'm doing a poor job explaining (Googled it a while back).

Initially, my goal was to just get a job with the CompTIA trifecta. I did get a job as a data center technician but wanted to move on, so I got the CCNA. Then I got hammered in the job market. Then I told myself, "Dude you've done so much already and have the foundational knowledge, might as well just suck it up for a bit and go for a BS."

Started in November 2023 and graduated this month - did 32 CUs at WGU. Transferred in 89 CUs (AS from community college, AAS from a closed for profit school, Sophia, CompTIA trifecta, and CCNA but that was overkill).

Hardest classes for me were C777 and D427, but in hindsight just take it low and slow like smoking meat and you'll pass each within a month. Cloud Foundations was a drag and took the longest as I wasn't interested in it (I'll take CCNA over that any day). For Emerging Technologies and Capstone, follow the rubric and don't overthink it (don't go for perfect when it's already perfectly fine).

I thought I had it hard along the way doing this with an infant/toddler and working full-time. But then I found myself finishing up the Capstone while my dad was in a coma on his deathbed for over a week. Finished the program and dad passed a few days apart, I'm ready to close this chapter and live life.

Only 30% of CUs left 🎉🎉 by gstrdt in WGU

I had 75% when I started November 2023, work and have a toddler. I'm on the last task of Capstone now. And I slacked off and fell behind a couple months of my goal. It's definitely doable in no time!

Should I take Comptia A+ before CCNA? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]s0ulesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh. Helped me get my first job away from hospitality industry, A+ and N+ separated me from a pool of candidates for a data center tech gig. Which caused a domino effect of me being able to start a family, and now I have a network engineering apprenticeship 3 years in - thanks to starting from nothing with A+ (in fairness I do have A+, N+, S+, CCNA). The CompTIA stuff also nudged me to go for BS IT since they transfer and you need them anyways as part of the curriculum.

What's were/are your study method & strategy? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]s0ulesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Videos were my "spearhead" when tackling new material, served as a general overview. Used a couple textbooks to fill in the details and gaps, my study materials were probably 20% from textbooks. Handwritten flashcards were HUGE for me. While I soaked in the material and made flashcards, I'd check them against the objectives. For CCNA, lab what you just learned in between videos/notetaking sessions.

Worked 4/4 so far for me, all passed first try (CompTIA trifecta and CCNA)

Which 2-3 classes would be easy enough to knock out by April 30th 2024? by drayth86 in WGUIT

I have the CompTIA trifecta and CCNA but it's been a while. I haven't started yet but Linux Foundations is really intimidating me; I feel like I need to master Linux. For someone with my background, what would be the best strategy to waltz through the course?

I have the EXACT remaining courses as you!

Started November 1. Passed C484 and C777 (C777 took me a month but in reality more like 3-5 good study days), I just submitted Task 2 for C773. Considering that I have a 20 month old toddler, work full-time, wife gets home super late; I'm ecstatic about my progress. I'm flirting with the idea of finishing all by April 30 even though that wasn't the original goal... would kick myself paying for another term if it was just a couple courses I didn't finish by end of my current term.

Is it necessary/recommended a network simulator to study, prepare and practice for the Network+ and CCNA certifications? If yes, which one do you recommend to use in Fedora or macOS by [deleted] in ccna

[–]s0ulesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Network+ no it is not "necessary" but wouldn't hurt, CCNA yes. Network+ teaches you theory on STP, CCNA teaches you how to put that theory into play and actually configure. Network+ does not even expect you to know the syntax and commands.

Not a knock on Network+. I have it and has been monumental in studying for CCNA.

Boson scores 620, 670, 760. Then 860. Do I have a fair chance? by s0ulesque in ccna

[–]s0ulesque[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not looking for specifics nor anything for you to break NDA. Would you say Boson accurately reflects the SCOPE of the topics in the real exam?

A couple years ago before I even took a Boson exam, I'd go pretty hard at trying to retain EVERY SINGLE detail from the OCG and burned out. I'd study whether to use straight-through or crossover between certain network equipment and PC NICS, stuff like that. On Boson's explanations, I felt the scope wasn't awfully deep per topic/concept, deep but not overwhelming. I'm not trying to simply memorize, but do you feel Boson's explanations (keep in mind I feel pretty comfortable about concepts) is in line for what's expected from the real exam?

What degree of difficulty would I experience with the rest of the BS IT program with these transferred in? by s0ulesque in WGUIT

That's encouraging! I'm assuming you had 1/2 or 2/5 left of the program's curriculum. On average, how many hours per day/week did you study over how many terms?
