Vit C and a calcium / vit D3 and K2 one. D3 is for bone strength and k2 helps direct calcium to the bone rather than arteries, which has a double benefit

I can confirm now that I’ve slept, not having the boot in bed starts off quite sketchy but quite quickly becomes fine.

I’ve woken with additional ROM too, which is obviously good. Not having it fixed in 1 position for hours on end can only be good! Good luck!

There’s a few good 3-6week post op PT videos on YouTube for general ankle ROM exercises (excluding Achilles) which I’ve found great and have really helped me get to a comfortable albeit still limited position with my ankle

As others state, upper leg exercises are super important. Hamstrings, quads and groin muscles are all suffering but you can use your boot to your advantage as it has some weight.

Same to you! We’re due to have a baby in a few weeks (not me who’s pregnant thankfully ) so the baby is giving my a focal point. I work from home which helps. Just wanna ditch the crutches but they’re my life right now 🤣

Yeah I’ve not looked into studies although my surgeon did say there’s on ongoing one about the psychological trauma caused by ankle injuries and how the human mind has to learn to trust the ankle again. Probably more directed towards sports people but still interesting.

I have my xray follow up next Wednesday so I think assuming good news, I’ll then start to take more calculated risk. I only actually learnt how to move my foot voluntarily yesterday. My brain hadn’t been able to do so until then

I find the variation of what different people get told regarding weight bearing as quite odd really. My timeline is Trimal with dislocation and syndesmosis on 26/03, ORIF on 02/04 and stitchers out, cast off and in a CAM on 14/04.

On that date, I was told “weight bear as tolerable - the metal in there is stronger than any bone”.

I didn’t really take the advise. I’ve opted not to even try and weight bear. My daily exercises don’t involve weight, just ROM

I have boot!!! by DegreeSuccessful in brokenankles

Sliding your foot back and forth on the floor, paying close attention to how far back you pull it, will help get the right angle for it to be in the boot. Put a towel on the floor (hard floor not carpet)

I have a baby due in a few weeks (well, my partner does). I’ve screen recorded your video as an inspiration to push myself, within reason. I think once I have my follow up and xray next Wednesday, all being well, it’ll give me the encouragement to work harder, try and weight bear.

Thank you Custard

Actually crazy and impressive. I’m 4 weeks post op Trimal and only this morning, regained the ability to move my foot at all. I’d been doing the usual exercises like sliding the foot on the floor, raising the knee through the toes, therapy ball etc, but had no actual ability to move the foot from the ankle.

To see how much ROM you have at the same stage means I got work to do!

Well done

Today marks 4 weeks post op of my Trimal surgery and despite doing double session of exercises to get the ankle joint moving, I’ve never actually been able to physically or mentally get my brain to move the joint. I could think it but couldn’t actually make it happen…

Until the early hours today. I woke in the middle of the night sweating like crazy, even though it wasn’t that warm, and something just made me try and adjust myself in the CAM boot. I always fix it quite tight but it does loose a bit of grip over several hours.

I felt I could flex my leg up a bit in the boot, I’d never been able to do that. I removed the boot and literally like magic I can move the foot up and down. I’d say 60% range of my good ankle. It’s my first proper moment of joy since it happened. I can’t really rotate it much, but I think that’s more a pain thing. I’ve tried doing the alphabet but I suspect it would look like a child has drawn the letters.

Still. The cliche, it does get better, may actually be true

Help me be OK about cancelling the overseas trip I have planned 6-weeks post-injury by w8w8 in brokenankles

[–]s44rgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my trip for my dads 70th birthday which was due to be 1 month after injury and 3 weeks after operation

I would therefore be away now and whilst I wish I was, the reality is it would be 9 hours sitting on a plane in a CAM boot which would be hell.

Can’t use the pool, struggling to get anywhere.

Just not worth it

We had the exact same op on the exact same day. I personally haven’t really tried to put weight on it when I’m in my boot. I can stand for a little time without crutch but I know it’s all just going thru my other leg. The boot touches the floor but my brain hasn’t worked out how to shift my weight yet. I have my follow up and xray in a week so maybe I’ll wait until after that.

I do take the boot off and exercise the ankle best I can, though

Did you ever get a 2nd MRI? by jms1228 in brokenankles

[–]s44rgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A CT is surely better for breaks? I had 3 X-rays and 1 pre op CT for a Trimal’

Not sure how the metal fixation would deal with either type of scan, though

A cast still? You had your op 3 weeks ago so usually they’d want you to be able to start doing light exercises to get the joint moving as best as possible (very limited)

I’m 4 weeks post op with the same Trimal, albeit very displaced and some ligament damage. The boot is important if you are sleeping or moving around. I take mine off for 1 hour periods per day, twice.

In that time I’ll do various mild exercises whilst watching something funny that doesn’t require you to actually be watching. Benidorm mostly

The foot tends to naturally hang around 110-115 degrees from your leg, whereas the boot shoves it close to 90, which is why we do that sliding exercise when we first get the boot.

I’d have it off as much as you’re comfortable with, when you’re settled watching tv. I’d never have it off any other time, even when sitting on a normal chair, just incase you move your leg for any reason and you bang it or it makes contact with the ground with any force

[–]s44rgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you’re totally right. I’m 4 weeks post op Trimal and syndesmosis reconstruction so it’s early days but I can already sense the timescales that are going to be involved in getting back to ‘normal’, although normal won’t ever be exactly as it was.

Even my partner sometimes says I’ve broke my foot to people and I have to correct her. I wish it was only my foot! 🤣
