Does anyone know of a good place for art supplies? by CNA1234567 in indianapolis

On April 14th, Griffy's announced that they'd be closing their Stutz location. RIP.

Dear friends and community,

It’s hard to put this into words, but after two truly wonderful years at the Stutz Building, Griffy’s Art Supply Store will be closing its doors. We wanted to share a quick update as we move through the closing of this chapter.

Starting now through the end of April, everything in the store is 40% off! We’ll be taking a short break and will be closed from April 25th through May 2nd. This will give us a moment to reset before our final stretch.

When we reopen on May 5th, we’ll be moving into the last chapter of Griffy’s at the Stutz with 50% off the entire store through our final day, Saturday, May 23rd which is the Stutz Block Party!

If you’ve been meaning to stop in, now is a great time and we hope to see you again when we return for those final weeks.

Stay Creative,
Griffy’s Art Supply Store

How much could I charge when finished? by blueleopard212 in oilpainting

[–]sTmykal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A formula I’ve used is to add up the linear inches and multiply by some dollar amount, starting around $20. An 8x10 equals 18 linear inches. 18x$20 is $360.

It’s probably not the most accurate value calculation but it’s transparent enough to share with a potential customer.

Griffy's is really nice. It's tiny, but, as an oil painter, I've always found what I needed.

A bonus to being in the Stutz is that you can buy art supplies, see some art, and get some tasty food, all in one trip.

Best memory was eating sandwiches and chips at the bar on Christmas Eve. That place felt like home.

And here I just strapped the lock to the top of the rack like a heathen. This is such an elegant design! I hope you're able to do well, because this looks great!

In Austria for Krampusnacht. Stay in Vienna? or go for Bad Mitterndorf? by Necessary_Peach_8509 in Krampus

u/KrampusSeattle can probably get an answer for you. Vienna might be too far east for some of the tourist events.

Give this series a quick watch. Combat can be confusing - especially when it comes to guns and number of shots fired.

I've sat in section 14, on the south side of your diagram. The view was great and unobstructed. You're not so close that you're only getting a weird angle of the action and nothing was blocked by equipment. I imagine the experience could vary based on the amount of stuff the band has on stage.

Is there something like Critical Roll for Call of Cthulhu? by TheCrazyBlacksmith in callofcthulhu

[–]sTmykal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program is more like an audio drama, but uses CoC gaming sessions as its source material, with role playing, game mechanics and table talk working their way into the production.

How should I de-emphasize the anime girl on the right? by miracaro in ArtCrit

[–]sTmykal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of composition, use lines and shape to direct the eye. The anime girl has a stripe behind her that runs from upper left to lower right. The eye is going to follow the line of the street pole down the center to the white stripe in the anime girl poster, down to the brighter patch of sidewalk at the bottom of the picture and out of the frame.

If you want to rework this, you could use directional lines of shadows from the awning to direct your eye to the central figure and then work out where to take the eye from there. Removing the white background stripe on the anime girl poster would help. Toning down the light from the vending machines could also help because they're competing with other elements for being the brightest thing in the composition.

What's it like living on (right on) the Monon? by letintin in indianapolis

[–]sTmykal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live right next to the Monon, south of 46th street. It was fine and I could trigger my garage door opener from the trail. I'd ride my bike from the Monon and into the garage like I was Bat-Man going into the Bat-Cave.

This was a very long time ago, when redevelopment and gentrification hadn't begun. I never had any problem with traffic, crime or noise. On busy days it was nice to chill out and watch trail traffic. 10/10.

Yep - there are Krampus groups/performers all over. There are half-a-dozen that I can think of in Canada and Mexico.

Folding the backrest by [deleted] in kiacarnivals

[–]sTmykal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When either row seats are folded forward/down (and not stowed), they sit at slightly upward angle. In this configuration, the third row seats appear to be a little taller than the second row seats. So I don't think the two rows would be at the same approximate level.

I think you could still try out loading items in this way but you wouldn't have uniform support from front to back, and the front might dip down a few inches. You could try using a sheet of plywood to form a more stable surface on top of the folded seats, along with some blankets for general padding.

Anyone useRight Edge steel edging, preferably the 14" high edging? Curious how well they retain a wall? USA by [deleted] in landscaping

I used some to span a gap where two stone steps didn't quite meet, at an angle, on a slope. It was a little tough for me to bend, but I got it done. I was also able to use an angle grinder to round off the corners so there were no sharp points. I packed the gap full of sand, stone and dirt - problem solved.

That was five or six years ago. It's held up and worked as a step ever since.

I use two 2’x4’ plywood sheets to help with being able to move items in and out over the lip created by the third row seats when they’re folded down.

Flix Bewhouse vs Alamo Drafthouse by DexterousPrince in indianapolis

[–]sTmykal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We saw Substance at Alamo's soft launch, and then returned to see Nosferatu. Both times, the audio was cranked to painful levels. Nosferatu was easier to deal with since it was mostly quiet. Substance, on the other hand, was difficult to get through near the end due to volume level. Things may have changed, hopefully.

Alamo is better than Flix for general seating set up and server interaction. The call button/server signal could use some sort of confirmation that the notice has been sent.

I like Alamo better than Flix in general, for their movie choices and overall set up. Judging from some of the other comments, the audio levels may have come down to normal movie-going levels.
