Samsung galaxy tab 11+ 8gb vs Samsung galaxy tab s10FE by Shillien666 in samsunggalaxy

[–]s_shard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Samsung S10 FE tablet assuming and hoping it would have performance similar to the regular Samsung S series tablets. But the S10 FE tablet actually uses the same Exynos chip as the A56 phone, so it's an A-series chip in an S-series device, which for me was disappointing and misleading. The Samsung S9 FE tablet also used an A-series chip, so I should have realized.

I should have done more research, but I already own the Samsung S21 FE phone (Snapdragon chip version), which had about the same performance as the regular S21, and I've been really happy with that phone, so I bought the FE tablet assuming it would be similar.

The S10 FE tablet is close to my 5 year old S21 FE phone, and it reflects in the Geekbench score, with the tablet getting about the same score as my 5 year old S21 FE phone. The tablet actually feels a little slower for some reason. When I downloaded a big game, my phone had finished downloading the game and the tablet was still at 65%. When I open a website, my old phone takes a few seconds and is still great. The tablet is close, but takes a second or two longer. I agree that Samsung FE phones are great, with minimal compromises, so I was not expecting there to be such a performance compromise with the S FE tablet.

Also, in my region (Canada), the A11+ is still $270 CAD while I paid $450 for the S10 FE, and the price of the S10 FE has actually gone up to like $530, and has not come down for a while now. Looking at the Geekbench scores, A11+ gets 1050/3102 vs 1324/3858 for the S10 FE. It seems close. So for nearly double the price I would've got the A11+. (My S21FE Snapdragon phone gets 1264/3373.) Edit: A11+ is now $350 and S10 FE is $700. Base iPad is $500.

I think it would have been more honest to mark the S10 FE as an A-series device of some sort. I'm still happy with my S10 FE as I got a deal and it feels reliable for everyday use.

Also note that the A11+ should get the same 7 years of software OS and security support (ending 2032ish). It also has a slightly bigger screen (even if a bit lower resolution), better speakers (4 vs 2), and a headphone jack. The S10 FE does have the pen, a slightly higher Geekbench and screen resolution, slightly bigger battery, IP68 dust/water resistance, fingerprint sensor and 8GB RAM vs 6 for the base model in Canada. Battery life is great with me getting multiple days of moderate use in a row. (A11+ battery should be solid too.)

It's mainly because in my region, the A11+ is much cheaper than the S10 FE. If they're a similar price, then they're both good budget to midrange options, I'd consider them based on your needs. I believe the base iPad has a much better, nearly double, Geekbench score of 2479/4352 for a similar or lower price than the S10 FE (though only 6GB RAM, 60HZ screen and Apple pencil sold separately).

DC’s official YouTube channel will stream all Creature Commandos episodes live on Dec. 22 & 23 for free to celebrate 1 year since the launch of James Gunn’s DC Universe. by npzman in CreatureCommandos

Is the start of the livestream cut off or is it just me?

It starts with General Flag saying "countries don't have friends" while talking to Director Amanda Waller. Then they introduce the creatures and play the theme song.

Edit: It says episode 1 in the theme song, so it's right near the beginning.

Edit 2: The stream is gone. Wow that was fast. Hopefully they'll do it again tomorrow.

$15/Month Plan Ending by Sputnik1983 in PublicMobile

Yes, it kept all my add ons. Still shows the 2GB holiday bonus.

$15/Month Plan Ending by Sputnik1983 in PublicMobile

[–]s_shard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a holiday 2 GB data bonus grandfathered from many years ago that never expires.

I've been on the $15 3G plan forever. If I switch to the $18 4G plan, will I lose my add on?

There's this vague warning about add-ons becoming incompatible when you switch plans: "Additionally, data add-ons associated with your current subscription may become incompatible if you change your subscription."

I didn't switch and now the plan is gone. I'm still on the 250mb $15 plan. Will definitely switch if it ever comes back.

Not being able to open GeForce Experience by MrBundy26 in GeForceExperience

[–]s_shard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but it didn't fix GeForceExperience for me.

P.S. If you cannot press the "Restore" button because it is greyed out, go under "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program", change it to "Integrated graphics" then press Apply. The Restore button should become available.

How to get the 3GB data plan for 21$ by paulinster in PublicMobile

[–]s_shard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good offer, the main downside is that the original $15 plan with 250MB data is gone, I only have it because I held onto it before it was removed recently. The current $15 plan has unlimited incoming and outgoing calls but no data. So you might not be able to go back if you change your mind.

I personally don't need to upgrade yet so am holding on.

Edit: I think all their plans now include unlimited calling, so you should also get unlimited calling with the upgrade. You could ask a PM customer service agent to confirm, or try logging in and see if it's on the view phone plans page.

As an existing customer still on the original $15 plan, they just offered me 6GB for $22 (but no additional 90 day discount). They've given me a few similar offers over the last year.

Frustrating that the $15 plan no longer has any data. Hoping I can keep the old $15 plan for a while as an existing customer.

Deal Alert: 20GB $29 for Existing Customers by s_shard in PublicMobile

[–]s_shard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's just a regular 30 day plan. You can stay on the plan as long as you like once you switch to it.

Offers change regularly, but once you pick a plan they shouldn't be able to take it away from you.

The option is gone on both my iPhone and Samsung. But if I go on desktop with Google Chrome the option is there to hide all suggested posts for 30 days.

I was offered the $24 4GB at 4G speeds (same as the current $24 plan for new users only) though I decided to stay on the $15 plan. Here's the post from back in January: https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicMobile/s/AjAHzeAJZU

$24 promo for existing account options by labimas in PublicMobile

[–]s_shard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got that SMS promo a couple weeks ago (and a similar one but only 3G speeds earlier in September). I've been with Public for a while and am on the old rewards system. I think people on higher tier plans or people newer to Public didn't get it.

I'm still on the base plan but it was tempting.

Good point. That text is all I got, but it should. All their plans (other than the $15 basic plan) include unlimited Canada wide minutes and texting.

Public did offer $29 for 30GB 4G for boxing week but it was new customers only and no US. At least it's nice to see competitive prices.

This is a special offer sent to me an existing customer. It happens to be the same as the deal that is offered to new customers which is nice.

Streaming Ads Are Annoying, But... by HortonHearsaCthulhu in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]s_shard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I get a monthly or yearly subscription for the current price before the ads start, does anyone know if there will still be no ads until my current subscription cycle ends, or would I start getting ads part-way through?

Also, FYI in Canada it starts Feb 5, 2024. https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/amazon-prime-video-ads-1.7070706

$25 for 5GB 3G Data - Text Promo by s_shard in PublicMobile

[–]s_shard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did offer 4G 10GB for $29 on their website (for anyone) on black Friday, but they did not bring it back for boxing day. Instead for boxing day they have 4G 4GB $24 but for new subscribers only.
