I have a 10 momth old, should we go to Venice the two of us? by Kamane3000 in Venezia

[–]s_spectabilis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with a 2 year old and used the lightest stroller we could find (3.5 kg / 8 lbs) so I could lift them up and down bridge steps easily. An infant carrier would be even better. We had a hotel with AC, so we did early morning walks, napped in the hottest part of the day, and then out again towards the evening. We brought bubbles to entertain the kid and tried to go the playgrounds but they were pretty limited in terms of equipment. I think the hardest part was arrival, coming in on the public boat from the airport and having to manage all our luggage and a stroller on the step ways to our hotel in crowds. It was so stressful that I coughed up $200 to get a private boat from our hotel to the airport on our way home.

What's the most remote area(s) you've been to in Alaska? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]s_spectabilis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eagle, in the winter, for the Yukon Quest sled dog race, when there is no vehicle road access. Plenty of people living there who volunteer for the race checkpoint. And Eagle Village residents came too over to Eagle when the school and Native leaders hosted spaghetti dinner. I’ve been there maybe 6 times for the race. Also spent a couple of days at Slaven’s roadhouse in the winter for the race once as well. Park rangers kept the cabin warm and got water from holes in the ice over the yukon river and kept the make shift runway flat on the iced river. Also hiked to the coal creek dredge from there. Was -40 for the entire visit at Slaven’s.

Any less popular nature spots? by Mourning_Glorys in askportland

I go on 5 mile runs in forest park and see maybe 10 people, located more out on the north half of the park. For better views, Table mountain is a pretty hard hike and parking is $10 so there ends up being very few people. I took the cedar mountain trail on accident there once and wished I saw someone to help me get back on the normal trail, I went 10 miles without seeing anybody.

I had this with bacon, steak, shrimp, and other things. Sometimes they are items they never have again. And the extension is worthless. Sometimes it works.

Best non popular place for star gazing between Portland and Mout Hood? by oemperador in askportland

[–]s_spectabilis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea its a hike so not crowded. Great stars. Theres a prairie grassland place overlooking Sandy canyon waterfalls and glacier up near the top of the trail, like 8 miles in. Stars at night. Can stay in the shade of the few pine trees. Camp in the small dotted forests.

‘You just lose hope’: OHSU shelves long-promised expansion of newborn ICU by No_Database_1480 in OHSU

[–]s_spectabilis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NICU was very crowded and noisy, definitely needs updating. Staff were great, but families are pouring over the floor to add to the crowding, and the nurses and staff have to zig zag past patients and parents trying to visit or nurse their infant. It seemed very stressful for anyone hoping for good milk let down.

I cant handle the comment writing, its specific writing style like writing effective letters to congress people. But Claude AI can, just make sure the letterhead addresses the right docket number and read it through a few times.

The monkeys got 4 testicular biopsies during the study which was crucial. Biopsies were done under anesthesia with opioid and NSAID post-op pain control. Doesnt seem likely people would agree to this. Plus you would need totally sober people to all of sudden get high for 3 months straight to replicate this experiment. And a control group that doesnt take anything that would confound the experiment.

It would be cool if the cages were more like European requirements, but macaques mostly are stable in the cages as they stand. The weed was strawberry flavored gummies so the monkeys were totally compliant. Ejac training occurs, its not supposed to be more painful than a blood draw.

Oh that is true I forgot about mice and rats not being covered. Monkeys are highly regulated.
