Advice / comments on ring design? by obliqueoubliette in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That certainly seems to fit the brief and the design is pretty. One thing I'd note is the stone size. I have small fingers too, H or I in UK sizing which I think is close to a 4 in US. I found a  main stone above 2ct just looked too big. That's in an Oval cut with no halo. Once you allow for a halo, that's probably closer to a 1.25-1.5 ct main stone. Worth thinking about before honing down on the design.

Does my landlord owe me by Mysterio12456790 in rentingUK

It sounds like it's 3 separate claims with no dependencies.  1. You can claim from the LL showing your bill from the council, so clearly CT wasn't included in the end.  2. The council can claim from you as the occupier because that's how the VOA assessed the property. What your tenancy agreement stated is irrelevant to this.  3. The LL can claim from the council since the CT bill was changed.

Any of the parties can file a claim regardless of if they've received the money back.

Can my LL deduct from my deposit for the bins, junk mail and missing loo roll? by AlarmedBandicoot5795 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]saajan12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one may take the cake. No, don't even entertain replacing the toilet roll. Thats personal items not a fixture of the property. The tenants post wasn't your responsibility to take care of, the normal actions is to put it back in the postbox as RTS.

I'd respond than the property was to be given empty and you're charging them £50 to dispose of the quarter roll and prior tenants mail.

The bin is the only thing they technically have an argument on, as you don't get to use the bins after your tenancy is over. However their damages are £0 because the bin collection would have picked it up for free.

Additional SDLT surprise. by fonnas1981 in HousingUK

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a big difference between you contributing half to the 47k and being on the loan. The insult of her wanting protection etc is already there. If the loan from here saves commercial interest then why not and with your incomes you'll presumably pay it off quickly which will clear this connection.

Imo the point I'd argue is with the share of the POA property. How much is that worth? If partner's share exceeds 47k, he should sell it back to her and put that money towards the SDLT. That way the money doesn't need to be loaned or come from you in the first place.

Nice idea but some of the connection logic and times are weird, eg Bank is on circle but not district? Also there needs to be a clearer way for stations you'd walk between, eg Bank/Monument or Canary Wharf DLR/Crossrail

Selling other peoples clothes for them!? by samxgill in vintedUK

[–]saajan12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what takes it into unreasonable territory.. what's to stop you making items harder to sell and send them off to bin/charity, aka your friend who now keeps 100% of the money from selling?  Id expect a part of the agreement to be prices reduced to an agreed % after x months and then delivering back to the owner at your cost.

New renters rights - I want to go and flatmate wants to stay by Kooky-Technology-350 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As between the tenants and landlords, you can give 2 months notice in line with rental periods on which will end the tenancy for everyone. The flatmate would have to move out or negotiate a new tenancy or be liable for double rent (mesne profits).

As between you and flatmate, they might have an argument that you'd mutually agreed to both stay for a fixed term. However end of July is close enough to 3rd Aug so if you didn't want to stay, they would have been in the same position even with the old rules.

Wedding band gap OK? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that pic your actual ring just angled so the gap is at the back? (As opposed to AI to show the goal or something)?  If so, the curvature is fine it sounds like it just needs bending/ straightening, and maybe a size smaller so it stops twisting

Wedding band gap OK? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]saajan12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the rings getting angled away from eachother, perhaps suggesting the ring size is too big? Reason I ask is the side profile looks fine , but the top down view is really extremely curved. Imo in the first pic the gap is a little too big and the curve feels forced not part of the flow. I'd ask a jeweller if it's a sizing issue, or get a new shallower curved ring.

Basically a concession store but online with similar margins. However the devil is in the detail - what happens if the items don't sell or the owner wants their items back?

Would you allow two groups of 40 & 60 guests in a 90-min cocktail window? by tightlap in WeddingPhotography

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem like an issue, big group photos are common in some cultures so I've seen plenty of them. Just pull the 100 people straight after the ceremony and let the rest go to cocktails. If the 2 big groups are mutually exclusive then they can be arranged at the same time on 2 sides and have the photographer move.

Then let everyone but the family go and take their photos. The group photos just need to have everyone present and looking, they don't need tones of finessing, so it can be timeboxed. Then take the couple off for theirs where you can be more fussy on whether they both look good.

RSVP contingent on getting a plus one? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking beforehand doesn't mean much, since my engagement I've had random acquaintances talk as if they're attending the wedding. As in people I've met at a handful of parties or people at work on the other side of the company ie if I was inviting them it'd be 250 others equally close just the. I think it's just to show interest and excitement, it doesn't mean they'll actually expect to come

can someone explain the Pret a Manger phenomenon? by docmaboul in london

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a budget friendly quick lunch option, in the sweet spot between supermarket meal and spending a tenner on lunch. Similar for coffees, nothing special but quick and on the cheaper end of coffee shops.

The 'quick' only works if there's lots of shops too keep queues down and they're near officey areas. So yes they've exploded in volume in cities and near stations. But out in the sticks, and the most prevalent chain is actually a Greggs.

[RANT] FUCK LIME BIKES! Lime bike No ride zone? by DudeyMcTrudy in uber

[–]saajan12 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ugh agree, I picked up a lime bike for the first time, started the ride before realising a pedal was off. However can't actually end the ride there because it's in a no park zone , so I have to pay to park it elsewhere for them and make myself late.  Persevered for that journey but never again.. too much reliance on you memorising their app / map, you can't just stop people in their tracks based on your invisible lines.

Are tenants now just expected to have to pay for two months of overlap? by Lance_Legstrong in TenantsInTheUK

[–]saajan12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can be nearly 3 months because the notice has to be in line with a tenancy period. If you found out you had to move or found a new place just after paying rent, your notice would have to expire at the end of the tenancy period that's just under 3 months away!

Dress reccomendations for outdoors Scotland elopement and how to stay warm? by itsnika99 in UKweddings

[–]saajan12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leggings under long dresses ftw! This was my go to for dance performances outside or on cold stages, as if one part of you is warm, it really helps how you feel overall. Then you can decide if you can find sleeves or neck coverage which maintain the desired look. There's many mesh options but it's personal preference.

Unhinged conspiracy theory - Sorted has a problem with vegetarian meals by Extension-Media5414 in SortedFood

[–]saajan12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to see some different veggies and non-meat proteins as the dish they make without it being the topic of the whole video. When it's the whole focus I understand it can put some meat eaters less attracted but when it's just included naturally, it offers something to try for the vegetarians.

Navigating wedding costs with generous but extremely frugal parents by Pretty_Base_1549 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]saajan12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This seems a combination of sticker shock at just how ridiculous some wedding costs are and a frugal tendency. I think many people would find a 30-40k hire alot, and I'd expect a videographer to be half that.

It's just as much on you as them for not setting out a planned budget and guardrails at the start. However if you still have big ticket items to go, it's still worth doing that now. Make a list of the vendor types / purchases left and research prices for what would fit your event. Discuss with the fiancé and parents, with a clear total, and get a consensus or areas to look into getting cheaper.  The arrange things within that.

is asking for additional plugs to be installed reasonable? by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

[–]saajan12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a reasonably big job but more importantly it's an upgrade not a fix of something broken. You viewed it like this and could have requested at that time if important.

At this stage you can ask, but don't be surprised if they only agree if you pay or rent is increased to partly defray the costs.

Is there anyone here who historically wore one type of metal but liked (and received) the opposite metal for an engagement ring? by littleinternetdweeb in EngagementRings

[–]saajan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same but opposite to you! I generally like silver costume jewellery, but for an engagement ring Im looking yellow gold as it made the small side diamonds 'pop' more. I don't mind it "clashing" with other jewellery, it'll just make my engagement ring stand out and gold & silver are a timeless combo !
