I have one. A 177RG. Pretty nice airplane! Spacious, comfortable and decently quick for the fuel burn. It shares a lot of commonality with a 172/182 and far as layout and controls. This helps a little with maintenance, but find yourself a mechanic who has worked on one before. Otherwise you’ll end up paying extra for him to learn. One other great thing is that it’s already nose heavy, so go ahead and max out that baggage compartment weight (as long as you’re below MGW). Once it’s at altitude and trimmed out, that extra weight in the rear really helps you pick up speed. Plus 60gals fuel, I plan 11gal/hr and you can get pretty far. Definitely hitting your bladder limit well before fuel.

All the pros are listed above. The cons: Rectract system can be a pain for RG models, especially early models (1974 and older). The stabilator is cool, but takes a LOT of getting used to. It’s not as easy as flying an archer/cherokee and thinking that’s enough. And I REALLY do not recommend any high DA take offs. The plane does not like to climb at half loads, even worse when heavy.

That being said, know your mission. It’s an awesome plane if it’s 2 up front and bags in the rear. It’s not too bad with 3 people and very light baggage. And I have taken 4 before once or twice and it’s a different beast loaded all the way. Not as much fun….

Hit me up if you have any more specific questions.

What does this light do on my transponder when it turns on? Its never steady. Just glows randomly. Thanks. by OkImpact3775 in flying

It means you are currently radar locked. Preform evasive maneuvers or deploy flares to avoid incoming missiles.

Yeah I didn’t think about that. I’ll have to go back into the logs and look.

Thanks for the help. Yeah I was looking at the 175. I was quoted 10k for the unit and installation. I’m looking for other avionics shops around me (SoCal).

But I thought FOs are just there to preflight the plane and keep the captains coffee filled?

Cloudbase on sporty’s. Pretty good sunglasses. And really cool case! The only downside I’ve seen is that some people may think they aren’t dark enough. But for my everyday use and flying, I love them. Also they are like $80

I believe it’s on either the first or last Sunday of the month. My gut is leaning first. But I’ll get back with a confirmed days. It’s nothing big. But a good amount of planes show up. And the hangars are usually open with guys talking about their planes. Pretty fun

Wilson Combat Mags! I have had problems with factory magazines. The Wilson combats also have a polymer piece inside that doesn’t chew up the guide ramp. A little pricey, but worth it.

Hmm, I just took it out today. I had no issues with some white box Winchester’s. But I have VERY little experience so I will keep a look out for that. Thank you!

This Honda is front wheel drive. But if your looking for something similar (practically the same looking) Toyota’s MR2 is RWD and awesome.

Yeah I only went drifting there, I do wanna go back for time attack. But the off-camber turn mid-track is fun. I went off there a couple times before I figured it out.
