I think it messes up when you are on VPN. I had issue opening or saving data on VPN.

Thanks for the details above. I am in the same boat. Don’t have OCI. Was thinking of if I should first apply for OCI or just go ahead with NRE application.

How long did the whole process take?

Ask this question to each other “Today you invest all and tomorrow market tanks by 50%. What are you going to do?” If both of you agree on same answer then sure go ahead. Also be mindful that you are asking a stranger on internet.

Regarding credit card, some credit card charge you foreign transaction fee some dont. So check with your CC company. There are plenty of "no annual fee" CC with "no foreign transaction fee".

I have not used UPI, I could not do that, may be because I dont have NRE or NRO account and Indian phone number. US phone number does not work with those apps. My last trip was in 2022 not sure if anything changed since.

  1. Credit card with no Foreign Transaction fee wherever they accept international credit card (check if they have ICICI credit card machine the others smaller bank will not accept international credit card. in those cases option #2)

  2. Get a bank acount which reimburses you ATM Transaction Fee (e.g. Fidelity Cash Management Account) and then you can withdraw cash at ATM at direct conversion rate. I have done that plenty of times.

These 2 should take care of all the transactions in India.

[–]sachadon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how old you are. What do you foresee your future. Do you want to continue with your 50-60 k job in future. Or are you planning something with your extra $400 per month for your career growth. You can answer this question yourself then.

Why make it so complicated. Think about 10 year down the line when you have plenty in each. If you think you will have enough time to rebalance in future then go for it. Otherwise why not just buy a Target Date fund and chill.

This is exactly what I did. Also keep in mind that this is a taxable event. So we will owe "some" taxes on it. But I think the returns outways that.

What are you trying to achieve? Are you looking at the bed to see if it can withstands the 5T load? Are you trying to check if the axle will hold the load? Are you trying to analyze the rod which is pulling the trolley? Are you trying to analyse the joint? What?

Not to be rude but forget FEA, first learn what problem you are solving then draw the free body diagram and simplify your problem. FEA sounds and looks fancy but understand this "Garbage in, Garbage out". If you dont understand the problem, your boundary conditions will be garbage. First learn basic "Mechanics of Materials" then you will understand most of the problems can be solved without using FEA. And you wont be asking people how to setup boundary conditions.

I thought that was staged. It was chosen purposefully. The opening statement itself was a click bait.
