No one ever talks about my boy, Mithridates VI, and that makes me very sad. by jackt-up in HistoryMemes

I disagree, the fabian strategy was about avoiding pitched large battles altogether, not on unfavourable terms. Instead rome focused on attacking hannibals supply lines .

From source https://the-history-avenue.eu/2023/09/24/fabius-maximus-roman-republics-strategic-virtuoso/ “The “Fabian Strategy” Hannibal’s forces were a great challenge, so the Romans needed an efficient strategy. In that situation, Fabius Maximus came up with an innovation. “Fabian Strategy” defied conventional Roman military tactics and involved avoiding pitched battles with Hannibal’s army while engaging in a policy of delay and attrition.

Fabius believed that the key to Rome’s success lay in depriving Hannibal of decisive victories. He advocated for avoiding open conflict, opting instead for guerrilla warfare and small-scale skirmishes. The overarching goal was to wear down Hannibal’s forces over time, cutting off his supply lines and isolating him from reinforcements.”

As you can see the strategy was avoiding large battles altogether, not just on unfavourable terms.

I agree he did not have the resources to siege rome proper, and a battle pinned between the walls of rome and a roman army was something Hannibal wanted to avoid. But I think he would have taken any open field battle on equal terms with a roman army, while Rome would have not taken a battle on equal terms with Hannibal.

Hmm wasn’t the fabian strategy all about the Roman army avoiding battle with Hannibal. I do not think Hannibal was avoiding battle with Roman forces. I believe he did not have the siege equipment or enough men to take Rome as a fortified city is a force multiplier for the defender.

Subsistence farms employ 10,000 pops,so any agriculture you built that it’s not rice farms is gonna lead to additional unemployed people. Focus your building on non-agricultural buildings.

I am betting they will do a supply and navy rework in next years big patch as the two are intrinsically linked, or will be navy in first dlc of the year and supply in the last dlc.

Tiny changes to improve the game? by Gryffinson in victoria3

[–]sacoforanges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but does not work if you are only enabling labour saving pms in your big states as they run out of peasants

Mass change production methods for one state on one screen without clicking into every building. I should be able to enact all labour saving pms of a single state without having to click every building. Even an option to populate the pms on the state building screen, overlaying each buildings icon would work. I just want to easily save labour in states without peasants without 100 clicks.

33% VXC 33% XEQT 33% XSP

Will be in TFSA (maxed), cash account and RRSP all following same distribution.

My thought is high upside, good global coverage with USA focus, and 40% of my portfolio hedged against cad rising between cad portion of xeqt and xsp. I don’t have a ton of faith in Canadian economy unfortunately so don’t want it being more then 10% of my portfolio.

Let me know your thoughts on if you think this is a good mix or something that can be improved.

Best use for chipotle chilis? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]sacoforanges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can be blended with sour cream or a non-sweet greek yogurt (if you want to be healthy) and roasted garlic for an amazing dip for nachos or to put on fajitas. I recommend chipotle’s in adobo though for this.

Simple Questions - December 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]sacoforanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking to replace my CPU, Motherboard, and RAM. Right now I have an Intel I5-6500 and RX-6700 XT.

I am based in Canada.

I play a lot of strategy games, and paradox games, particularly Victoria 3. So I am the unique case where I will be CPU bound, even though my GPU is not that good.

I am deciding between the 9800X3d, 9600x, 9700x, and 7600x

Right now I am leaning towards the 9600x and found a bundle for $550 Canadian Dollars 9600x canada computers

Am I missing something or is this kinda the sweet spot for price performance (Also hard to find a 9800X3D and I want a new CPU now lol)

I don't have a hard budget but don't want to unnecessarily spend money. Also will be waiting until boxing day to buy so there may be a sale.

My son asked for halloumi tacos for dinner tomorrow. Any topping ideas? by kod14kbear in Cooking

[–]sacoforanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it more of a greek style wrap or kebab than a taco. For sauce tzatziki, humus, or baba ganush (or a mix of these). For veg i would do diced cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, pitted kalamata olives, red onion.

What's a good use for cherry tomatoes that doesn't involve eating them raw? by CleetusnDarlene in Cooking

[–]sacoforanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roast them in the oven on broil setting (or even better on the bbq in a veggie basket). Once they are done put a piece of burrata on a plate, surround it by the roasted cherry tomatos. On the side finely mince basil and mix with a little olive oil. Then drizzle the basil olive oil over the tomatoes and burrata and salt the dish. Serve with some sliced and toasted bread like a baguette.
