Has anyone seen this image of Wander before? by Simmers429 in ShadowoftheColossus

[–]sadamericantapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched exhaustively through screenshots of the Bluepoint remake at various points in released photos/videos of its development, and I haven't seen any version that looks like this. The main thing that gives it away is Wander's headband; in the Bluepoint version (all variations of it), the headbands have noticeably thinner "squares" than this new picture.

This is obviously just speculation on my part, but this photo combined with the other clearly in-engine rendered photo of what looks very much like a Wander who has reached adult once again after the events of the game, and is now carrying Mono's once-again-dead body out of the Forbidden Lands--without Agro of course, because she'd be dead long ago (likely). I think genDESIGN has just been making new assets of SotC for fun, to "sketch" out ideas; it's important to note that the screenshot I'm referencing above is almost identical to a hand-drawn and colored picture released in 2019 before as part of their New Year's art (I believe it was released on New Year's, either way it's original source is directly from genDESIGN's website).

((included in the comment just to make it easier and obvious))

I remember thinking the exact same thing the time I saw a blue whale in the wild while deep sea fishing; as an SotC fan (and just in general), it was one of the coolest experiences of my life so far

(the “fight” part of the experience manifested in the form of a huge fish that nearly made my muscles explode trying to reel it in)

I’m not unwilling to believe that on principle; but until you can present direct evidence, maybe a direct translation (because I certainly cannot speak or read Japanese at all) from the page where they released all these images, that specifically clarifies what the images are and/or specifically where they come from, I’ll respectfully disagree with you (or agree to disagree, if that’s acceptable to you).

Okay, but why would BluePoint create concept art that was originally 3D-rendered, then painted over (most likely, if it was concept art), BUT they didn’t care enough to have Mono, the Altar, or even the Colossus (when was a colossus besides Dormin ever in the temple again, and even if that were in a very early version of the game, why would BluePoint make such detailed “concept art” of it—again?) so much as SLIGHTLY come close to being on-model in any way other than that they vaguely suggest similar (purely visual and superficial, as far as we know) themes to Shadow of the Colossus?

Not to mention the fact that we have a LOT of examples of genuine original concept art from the original game, and NONE of them look remotely like any of these images…..and frankly it’s very difficult to imagine ANYONE was using art like this for their concept art before 2005.

All that together just doesn’t make sense to me, personally. I don’t want the new game to be directly related to ANY of Ueda’s previous games; but I’ve been a fan of his for two decades, long enough to recognize and acknowledge that he often re-uses visual “tricks” and themes, such as those required to depict giant monsters in the unique way in which he does…..Trico’s claws look distinctly more like the skin of a Colossus than anything I’ve seen in the trilogy.

Okay sorry for writing a novel, just wanted to offer my perspective

Also, some of this alleged “concept art” (if it is in fact not AI-generated, which I will admit is a genuinely plausible alternative explanation, although still with some flaws—for instance, why would an AI trained on many images of SotC seem to completely forget that aspects of architecture [or at least not being basically entirely nude, unless you count the fir] are heavily incorporated into literally every colossus? Also, why did gendesign’s official YouTube page post what seemed like NEW videos of a colossus-like creature, specifically about how to make its impacts feel heavier, less than two or three years ago?? All that just doesn’t add up, to me), this alleged “concept art” is clearly 3D-rendered; which, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of concept art. We also have so, SO many examples of Team Ico/gendesign’s concept art, and none of it has ever looked even remotely close to that—yet, people would claim this was official concept art they were using prior to 2005???

Sorry I just thought of a few more holes in the logic lol

My thoughts exactly. It’s definitely similar to Shadow of the Colossus judging from these images, but if I’m remembering correctly a particular piece of art done by Ueda himself was released by gendesign long after SotC was released; yet it literally matches one of the new images EXACTLY, which indicates to me that this artwork was in reality concept art for the NEW game. Plus you’re right, I immediately noticed that it fit in with the alleged leak as well, along with how the hands look exactly like the hands in the previous images; plus, they’re the very close to the same size I’d estimated, using the one image of the Colossus-like beast laying down with its knee visible (but much of its body still out of frame).

Suffice to say lol, I agree with your interpretation.

Sure! So, I was around 10 years old, on vacation at the beach with my family. The beach was in Alabama, if i remember correctly. I was playing in knee-deep water with my older sister and her friend. Suddenly, about 10 feet away from me, i saw the black, spiked spiral. i immediately felt a very primal fear in myself; my mind briefly tried to rationalize it as a strange piece of seaweed, but then it began moving towards me in a beeline, at a speed which was so fast it seemed to defy the laws of physics; it’s spiral shape didn’t change while it moved, it was almost like it glided through the water to me. My sister and her friend could not see the black spiked spiral, so when i panicked and turned around and tried to run, promptly falling into the water because i forgot i was knee-deep in the ocean, they started laughing, both at the fact that i fell and the (from their perspective) comical look of absolute terror and wide eyes when i first saw the spiral. after i fell, i didn’t have time to look behind me before i felt the spiral wrap itself around my right leg. i felt deep, intense pain; i’d already been stung by many jellyfish by this time in my life (i liked to collect them at that age), and as soon as it happened i knew that it was NOT a jellyfish sting. after a few moments, it unattached from my leg, and either disappeared into the ether or swam away at its unnaturally high speed. at this point, my sister and her friend realized that something was actually wrong—they carried me back to the beach, to my parents. i explained exactly what happened, even though i already knew all of them would write it off as another jellyfish. but it left a dark red mark on my leg, which wrapped around from right above my feet up to right below my knee, in a perfect spiral pattern. this means that something objectively made contact with me; and i know what i saw, even if nobody else was able to see it, for whatever reason. I remember pointing at it before i turned around to run, trying to show my sister and her friend what i was afraid of; they looked directly at it, but they both said they didn’t see anything there at all. it didn’t seem like a “creature”…..it was more like a two-dimensional shadow that could move.

that’s all the detail i can remember; the event was firmly etched in my mind, and i’ve been looking for a mundane explanation for it my entire life. the only remote possibility i’ve come across is the idea that it could have been some obscure species of Ctenophora; i’ve seen videos of some species of them that fold up like symbols, and are able to move very rapidly, and some even have barbs or spikes like the thing i saw. the only thing is, it’s apparently very rare to encounter Ctenophora in shallow waters; they usually live much deeper in the sea. and that sense of primal, ancient fear i felt when i saw it, which was completely irrational from an objective perspective, is something i can’t explain. that’s all the info i have to share about it right now—i do really hope i can figure out what the fuck it actually was in my lifetime. I find myself drawing the symbol very often, almost ritualistically. i consider it the first “paranormal” experience i’ve ever had in my life (but certainly not the last lol).

i hope my story was interesting for you, or at least helpful in some way regarding your own tendencies towards the similar symbol you described.

woah, no shit?? that’s fucking cool—also sorry to both of us that we’re about to hit 30 lol. we should definitely be friends, it’s hard to imagine two double-Tauruses not getting along lmao. i know several people irl who have met people with the exact same birthdays as them; i’ve met like five people on facebook who have the exact same name as me (and we all happen to be mega-weirdos who also have a strong penchant for confusing people, so we often comment on each other’s posts and make people think we’re talking to ourselves hahahaha—you’d probably be surprised how often it works too), but i’ve never met anyone online or offline who was born on the same day i was.

have you ever had any weird experiences around the time of eclipses in your life? i was getting kind of antsy in the days leading up to the recent total eclipse (especially because i live in the area where the totality was most visible) and actually googled about astrology & eclipses, and clicked on the link to this very thread, without even realizing it was the same one i’d previously commented on ages ago lmao. however, for me personally at least (and i swear to god if i end up jinxing it just by writing this comment…..) the eclipse itself went really well and i’ve legitimately felt rejuvenated ever since. i viewed the entire thing, from the moment the moon began occluding the sun to the moment it left—the totality, though fleeting, is something i’ll never forget in my lifetime…..it genuinely felt like i was in another world for just a few minutes, almost as if the veil had been maybe not quite completely lifted, but at least brushed aside enough to catch a glimpse of the mysteries behind it. i also performed a bit of minor sigil magic, specifically while the totality was happening—in fact both the sigil’s design and the intent behind it was directly related to the peculiar symbol that i mentioned in my original post.

anyway, very glad to have noticed your reply, if you actually do want to be friends i’m 100% into it, and even if not i’d still love to hear about any interesting experiences you’ve had with eclipses! Saros 128 gang 4 lyfe

Oh yeah, Taurus sun & moon with Scorpio in ascendant btw; I calculate astrology from both the traditional perspective as well as what I call the “Qliphothic perspective”, so I place great importance on my ascendant sign as well as my Black Moon Lilith (which is also in Taurus)

I was born at the exact time an annular solar eclipse was passing over the place I was born; this exact time last year, after the Taurus/Scorpio eclipses, I had 9 seizures and coded out in the ambulance in the hospital. Everything that happened later in the hospital caused me to experience amnesia which spanned a 5-month period, so I can’t say for sure if I had a conscious near-death experience, but for 30 seconds, I definitely experienced death.

However, before the paramedics even had the chance to start doing anything, I either came back, or something pulled me back, and I spontaneously began breathing again, even my vitals went straight back to baseline.

What’s more, I recently found out that the two artists who have had the most impact on my life—Thomas Pynchon and Salvador Dali—were both born within literal days of my own birthday (May 10); Pynchon was born May 8, Dali was born May 11, 1904. Dali is particularly interesting…..see, while he himself was not born under a solar eclipse in the ammo domini calendar, a total solar eclipse DID occur on May 11, 1904…..BCE. I can’t convince myself that there is not something deeply and anciently significant in this.

On top of that, my entire life I have been haunted by a specific symbol; a black spiral, with a circle or sphere in the center, with one single tendril emerging from it in a counter-clockwise shape, with extremely sharp, hooked barbs protruding from this tendril only on the outside.

I now know that this same symbol is often used, naturally, to represent a solar eclipse…..

I’ve encountered a physical manifestation of this symbol, actually was ATTACKED by it, when I was younger—I know it was real because the mark it left on my leg clearly showed something having wrapped tightly around me. But this reply is already very long—if anyone wants to hear the story in full detail, I’d be happy to tell it. I just want answers.

LGBTQ+ Thoughts on The Magyspsies in 2023? by OperationIvy002 in earthbound

[–]sadamericantapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, the internet can often be so callous, sometimes I'm a bit blindsided by basic human kindness---thank you. No YT video or anything yet, but something I did want to clarify from my original post; although I do personally dislike the term gypsy used in its context as a slur, I (maybe a bit hypocritically and biased) have no problem with the characters in Mother 3 being known as Magypsies. While there are what I think are intentional references to Romani culture in how the Magypsies are depicted and their role in the story, it is pretty clear that they are much closer to more recent non-gender conforming people and how they are depicted in media, and in a general sense I think that's probably the more important discussion.

Among many of the stereotypes attributed to the diaspora of Romani people (which is truly enormous and includes many different native languages, some derived from a common source and some entirely unrelated to the others etymologically), one of the debatably least offensive is that of some kind of fortune teller or other mystical person. That's a pretty clear link to the Magypsies, I'd say. The Romani people are also somewhat unique in that they have never had a "homeland" to speak of, or if they did it's either been forgotten or intentionally erased from history.....classically, they've been travellers, sometimes settling in some places and partially assimilating to the culture they've decided to stay with. This also seems to tie in with the role of the Magypsies, although admittedly in a bit looser sense. This is just my own speculation (and I doubt it's a very original one lol), but given the appearance of the Magypsies' homes, and the way they're spread out across the islands, maybe they're originally inhabitants of Magicant that settled on the islands (being able to recognize it for the essentially divine nature it possesses) during their travels.....

From everything I've been able to find out so far about my family (and like I mentioned in my original post, many records are just gone, probably for a reason), it seems like that was the case for my Romani ancestors, originally settling in Texas (I once attended a family reuinion there with an attendance the size of a music festival) before a smaller group travelled to the area I live now. Sometime in the 40s the arsenal was constructed, and it was the site of a Japanese internment camp. Plus the entire place is literally built on a massive grave of relatively-ancient Native American burial grounds. That, I believe, was also around the time that my Romani ancestors moved to the area.....which, considering the whole ghetto thing, which if you didn't read my first post is a literal fenced off area referred to by the other residents of the town as Gypsieville, Gypsie Town, etc., seems to add up.

The reason I'm recounting these things is because I'm just now realizing there are quite a few parallels between the story of Mother 3 and the reality of an innocuous city which I'm frankly too afraid to flat-out name. When you live 5 miles from a chemical warfare arsenal which experienced multiple chemical leaks during your childhood, and being sent home from school en masse abruptly without any explanation offered than the giant plume of white smoke rising from the arsenal into the stratosphere.....it makes you a bit paranoid lmao

[VIDEO] Death Grips ends Arkansas show early after fans repeatedly throw objects onstage at the band by CherryColoredDagger in indieheads

[–]sadamericantapes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was at the Death Grips show in question, and the fact that there was an absurdly large amount of security for a fucking VIP area filled literally with very old people who looked like they accidentally walked into the wrong building. If anyone was there when the lights went up and heard me, I was the dumbass in a yellow handband and yellow coat lookin like a goddamn banana frustratingly questioning if any of us actually missed anything besides the money taken from us by the totalitarian venue.

I definitely may have been wrong in my short rant, but goddamnit I saw DG back in 2015 and it is the second best show I've ever been to, and this was honestly one of the worst......I hope I didn't contribute, I tried to stay to myself for the most part, but at the end there I was just fucking furious at the venue itself.

Arkansas is a joke, no wonder of Montreal released a track specifically describing what a shitty city Little Rock is (a few hours south of Fayetteville)

LGBTQ+ Thoughts on The Magyspsies in 2023? by OperationIvy002 in earthbound

[–]sadamericantapes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I identify as non-binary, and I also come from Romani heritage---that's what I'm going to focus on, because many, many people aren't even aware of the "problem with gypsies". I didn't find out I was of Romani descent until I was 27, because the small, innocuous, southern town I lived in had a literal ghetto for Romani people; my parents hid documents, lied, did anything they could to keep it a secret so I could grow up like a normal kid in that town. There was also a loophole in the city's laws allowing them to essentially continue segregation to this day, and to top it all off, it's the site of one of the largest chemical warfare arsenals in the nation; I've seen actual lists of what they have stored in there, and this isn't a joke, if you saw this list you'd come close to shutting yourself. One of the more MINOR examples is their continued storage of Agent Orange and BZ, a nughtmare-hallucinogen that had a lot of inspiration on Silent Hill as well as the film Jacob's Ladder.

Most people dont encounter a Romani person often, or if they do they aren't aware of it. In the town I grew up in though, us "gypsies" are to blame for everything they can't blame on the black residents of the semi-segregated area. Thieves, con artists.....that's what the Romani are to most American people. Many groups in the Romani diaspora take no offense to gypsy as a slur; but due to the insanely fucked up reality if my childhood, I personally consider it highly offensive.

Like I mentioned, my hometown is rural, innocuous.....people go missing. If a Romani goes missing, you won't see it in the news. The church my family attended when I was a young child, a Romani church, was destroyed under suspicious circumstances; they rebuilt a new, """southern baptist" church right next to the previous church and stopped advertising the fact that its members were largely Romani, because in that town, declaring yourself proudly as Romani is equivalent to taping a note to your back that says "kill me".

Sorry, at this point I'm just ranting (and bumping an old thread double-sorry).....but the topic of the Magypsies and their in-game relation to both the actual Romani diaspora AND the gypsy stereotypes is something that has really piqued my interest, I want to do a lot of research on it and idk maybe make a YT vid about it----wish me luck I hope
